Cheers HRM, I was smiling while writing the first half of it. Batreps can be a bit of a slog to type all the way out! Now the mixed tenses and run-on sentences glare back at me accusingly.

I very much recommend the scenario. It is exactly what this game needs more of.

We gave the 'Attack of the Corsairs' scenario another go at the Cav's (Club) last week. Report of how we went is here: http://roughwotr.blogspot.com/2011/0...-vs-elves.html

Props to Andy for his very well designed Fortress.

Re: WOTR Reunited Kingdom vs Rohan - Shieldwalls

Finally, a game of WOTR! In defense, we have had a significant earthquake (not as significant as just hit Japan though ), but still.

In this battle, we were doing NATCON 2011 prep. No houserules and, as Umpire, I took a serious list (though Morranan str 4 vs def 4(6) is a bit of a handicap!) to at least challenge Andy's Morranan + Seige bow + 2HW Orc + Betrayer-Khamul, and Gothmog.

Do you think I was up to the task? See the outcome here: http://roughwotr.blogspot.com/2011/0...2011-prep.html

    Cheers

The next NATCON test game is here. It is not so good for my boys, I am afraid.

I think that Red-7's suggestion about the Battlehost heroes may have merit and would definitely force a re-think of my force.

King Elessar and the warriors of the Reunited Kingdom took on Druzhag and the spiders (plus goblin lackeys) of the Misty Mountains in a 'King of the Hill' battle over a ruin perched above the snow.

    See how they did here:

This time it is the Biege Wizard who dares take on the King: http://roughwotr.blogspot.com/2011/0...gondor-vs.html ... or-vs.html

The guidelines worked well. Actually wanting to take Captains? What next?

Cheers for the great game, Jason.

Another good report (despite your loss).

Work on my Haradrim army has slowed since RL has picked up- maybe one day I will get a game in...

    Thanks Codsticker.

An all Haradrim army would be pretty cool. I am quite taken with the idea of a 'Watchers of Karna' battlehost based army myself.

As I don't have the Battlehosts supplement I am unfamiliar with that.

My all-Haradrim army is mostly Harardrim; I am working on a a unit of heavy cavalry that will counts-as Easterling kataphracts and there are a couple of Ringwraiths.

Re: WOTR Reunited Kingdom vs Rohan - Shieldwalls

We gave the combination of Maelstrom (which I do not usually like) and Seize the prize a go a couple of weeks ago. This will be round one of our one day charity event @ Tempest later this month. I figure that this is a combination to wake us up on a Saturday morning! I just hope the deployment zones do not get flooded with Moria Goblins.

    http://roughwotr.blogspot.com/2011/0...-isengard.html

I think it works well and I like Maelstrom much better for this particular victory condition.

    Thanks for reading.

What's this I see? A Dragon draws near?
    http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F7LjRHqne3...deployment.JPG
The Dragon (spell casting, of course) was accompanied by 5 coy spiders, four coy Goblin bow, six (?) Coy Goblins with Shields (yes with shields, my opponent is not inclined to proxy Blackshields unless for our 'experiments') and a Spider Queen.

Angmar had: The Tainted, 5 Coy Carn Dum Barbarians w Chieftain, 5 Coy Carn Dum Barbarians, 5 Coy Carn Dum Barbarians, Carn Dum Siege bow, Buhrdur, 4 Coy Isengard xbow with Captain.

    Full report is here:

Re: WOTR Reunited Kingdom vs Rohan - Shieldwalls

I've been a bit lax and have a backlog to clear but here is my game vs Gilfred the Iron Knight at our club, last Thursday night.

He requested that I take my Angmar list (I don't think he ever wants to face my Gondor force again! ) and we used my 'Tournament Guidelines' so only one decent Epic hero each. I had the Tainted and he had Lurtz. It was really good to be fighting an Isengard force without that damnable Beige Wizard. 8)

    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uvXJgs7NmW...attlelines.jpg
Playing at the club means 8'x4' tables are possible and in hindsight this helped me a bit. My lines are to the right of James' (in this pic), with about half the models James has. Not good, when all those troops are Uruks!

Full report, with lists, is here: http://roughwotr.blogspot.com/2011/0...-field-of.html

Did the brave few (as if, I play my Barbarians as a very cagey force!) manage to defeat the hordes of Isengard?

Local player Ray beats up Andy in one game, and me in another. I salvage a *little* pride by winning one on the middle, but still.

Re: WOTR Reunited Kingdom vs Rohan - Shieldwalls

We awoke around our campfires to see a chill sight marching silently, like the dead, toward us across the snow of our homelands. The Elves had come. Stealer's of children, alien myrmidons of alien gods, allies to those who would conquer the lands of our forefathers, a foe out of legend and nightmare.

Here they were, nightmare made real, gliding towards us without sound or expression and leaving no trace in the snow with their steps. Brave veterans shivered and not from the chill winter air.

    http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IKI7_vl8Zw...%2Bwarhost.JPG

They can bleed though - when cut by cold iron, and they will find that we are not without dread allies of our own.

This was a 1000pt WOTR battle, Shieldwalls deployment and for VPs.
The Elves brought along Galadriel, the Twins and Cirdan. There was a unit of three coy Cohort; a unit of three coy Galadrim with Longbow; three coy Woodelves and four coy Galadrim with Glaives and Shields.

The brave defenders of the Carn Dum plateau were led by the 'King of Carn Dum' (Thrydan), assisted by the Nazgul Dwimmerlaik and Tainted; the Troll Cheiftain Buhrdur stalked somewhere about the outskirts of the fray. The bulk of the forces were two formations of five coy Carn Dum warriors, another of four coy, two coy of Carn Dum (Mordor) Siege Bows and a lone Siege bow to round things out. The force was meant to contain borrowed Angmar Orcs, but the Elven player forgot to bring them. I have the models on order.

If you have read this blog before you will know I don't rate the Elves as a WOTR force and like to houserule when playing like minded players. In the case of this fight, the Elves benefited from their Glaive armed troops striking before other infantry, their Longbow ignoring Shields (hitting on 5s within 18" vs the bulk of my army - ouch), Epic Strike being less important, so their base fight values count for more (the 'King of Carn Dum' goes from being awesome to pretty average in a duel, Nazgul fear Elven heroes), and my Wraiths were mastery 2 not 3.

You can read the full report here: http://roughwotr.blogspot.com/2011/0...ses-field.html

I like the pics with the labels; it helps me figure out which unit is which as I can't always make it out.

Thanks Codsticker, I'll do more of that then. I shouldn't be lazy - the pics have to be resized anyway so I might as well label as I do it.

    Cheers

One of the nice things about the blog is that once you have clicked on the pics you can then zoom in; that helps quite a bit too.
