    Ulrig's Renegade Guard Thread. (slow)

    EDIT:
The way I host/link my images is not forever apparently. The pictures unlinked so far are mostly older and do no represent the newest of what this project has evolved to. I will either fix the non working links or remove them by end of thanksgiving break. I apologize.

I made a thread 4ish months ago about selling my nids to start chaos renegades. I was completely disheartened by the new nid dex and I loved the fw stuff. So I sold my nids for a nice chunk of cash to buy FW stuff....currency exchange rate is just short of rape....stupid gov and out of control spending.....but I digress.

So the plan is to knock up my painting and modeling skills up a few notches. These are awesome models and I have some great conversion stuff for vehicles in mind. I plan on playing with both the IG codex and vraks list 3. I am also doing some custom stuff just cause it will be cool.

This will be a slow log, and I apologize for it. I am an extremely busy man. I go to school full time, work full time, and I have wife with 1yr old daughter. I also have two extremely lazy dogs....sorry got off track there. So my schedule at least for a while allows very little time for this hobby, but I still chip away at it.

Here is what I am working on, priming of most of it starts tomorrow.

Some of you may of seen this model. If he is ever used, he would be a demon prince or an abomination of some sort. Maybe custom rules or if GW or FW ever shows more love for renegades he might get some use. But no matter what it is a model I felt would be perfect for a vraks list 3 army.

Now that is a great mix of models, mantic zombies and forgeworld renegards.. sweet!.
These are going to look great painted up, I can't wait. What other models are you going to include in your force?

-To redirect the nightmare clown here.. :P (seriously I still get freaked out thinking about that movie...and im 30)
The main reason I am using the Typhus model as Necrosius is because I think the weapon looks incredible and looks much more like a 'force weapon' than the one carried by the nurgle csm sorcerer from FW. I know the armour is different but I cannot have it all until FW releases a model for him.

However the chances are incredibly high I will also pick up the FW model on my next order at the end of the year.

Consider the nightmare clown redirected lol.

The Necrosius model from GW is kinnda odd as one leg and one arm dont have any armour so he does look kinnda weird.

    http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhamme...-SORCERER.html

Thats a nice mix of troops you have there: Enforcers, rogue psykers (not that great rules wise but models is nice) retro plague marines, a swarm of zombies. That ultraforge plague demon looks like a good fit for the army and will provide some variety as there are only 3 different plague ogryn sculpts.

Any idea what colour scheme you are going for when you start paintin them?

The zombies will be a nice mix of decaying flesh colors, greys, blues, browns and greens.

The Vrak troops will be brown/greenish. I am thinking a skorched earth basecoat, heavy drybrush with a lighter brown (cannot decide on the color yet) washed with green/baddab black, and then drybushed again with the light brown and some blending.
It will be a lot like the illustrated vrak troop in the book but of my own blend and less mustardy.

The plague orgyns will be yellow/light brown washed with brown/red

Vehicles will be dark flesh brown with drybushed boltgun metal over black for weapons. Also decay and fungus with green stuff of course.

Plague marines, I am thinking catachan green bascoat, then rotten flesh green, washed with browns/greens/black then dryburshed with rotten flesh green, blending a brown here and there to capture the whole rotting/rusting aspect.

Re: Ulrig's Renegade Guard Thread. (slow)

    Sounds good.

For my Vraksian militia I just blasted them with the desert yellow spraypaint (humbrol I think) and brushed on the Army Painter quickshade. Same for the vehicles but it didnt really work for them, Im going to have to go back and do them properly as I just blasted them wanting to get them over with as quickly as possible.

The plague ogryns were just done with the flesh foundation paint with that quickshade brushed over them to give them a glistening look.

Plague marines (not in my Vraksian army, theyre my pure Death Guard army) were done in the Apostles of Contagion colours seeing as how they are Necrosius warband. Thats dheneb stone armour with boltgun metal trims, the whole thing is given a few layers of devlan mud or gryphonne sepia to really dirty them up and make the silver look tarnished.

Any idea what kind of list you will be running?

When using the IG list ill be playing mech/vets
When using the Vraks ill be playing the same, also another list featuring zombie horde with marines and/or plague ogyns.

No list yet really as I am the type of player who like to have a large variety of models to play whatever floats my fancy.

Cool. Your painting log has actually inspired me to go back and make (yet another) commander for my renegades.

Looking forward to seeing how your army develops.

Re: Ulrig's Renegade Guard Thread. (slow)

So...I have some initial test models completed...err near completion. I have a few things to correct like the boots you will see in some models.

The Basing still needs some work. I like the color of the red...but I do not care for the size of the gravel. The place I purchased it from, had a finer grade available. I will be picking it up on monday. I will also be adding dry dead grass. The big flat stones did not turn out like I wanted, they will most likely be done in a grey.

The eyes, I like the way the eyes turned out, but I am not sure about the glowing effect I added, C&C plz.

The clothing, I like a lot, I might do some more and lighter highlighting next time before it gets the final devlan mud application.

The green/brownish armor I love, it happened by accident, I can easily re-create it. I am thinking about doing it with the plague marines also.

You have to excuse the pictures. Currently I still have a bad combination of lighting and poor camera, which both will not be resolved till around christmas. I am having to use the flash of the camera just to show you guys some of the color and detail....and even at that it does no justice.

Please, C&C is greatly appreciated, I am hoping to get more feedback than my ork thread lol.

They look great dude, really good colours that work with each other. How did you do the armour?

I like the eyes and the glow effect is pretty cool!

Cool minis, I love the glowy eyes! And honestly I think the size of the gravel is fine, just needs some more contrast. IMO you should add some dead grass or something too.

Chest Armour-Primed Black, Basecoat Scorched Brown, Drybrushed Heavily with Graveyard Earth, Washed with Brown Ink and Ork Flesh Wash, one after the other before any drying happens.

The End result was this brown-greenish metallic color I was looking for.

Brown Ink and Ork Flesh Wash were both older GW inks
I have lots of brown ink left, but used the last drop of the ork wash. I puchased thraka green, hoping it is the same.

Thanks for the C&C guys, much appreciated.

Re: Ulrig's Renegade Guard Thread. (slow)

I have been working on this quite a bit, and I will have more photos soon, this run of photos took a lot of work. I have a new camera, it takes photos of figs better, but its a little stubborn getting it to focus.

I worked my ass of on these, and I am quite proud to show them off. I was originally going to go with a different color scheme, but sometimes the colors just create themselves.
