Angels Encarmine by Cry of the Wind

I haven't had a proper project log on here before and since I am starting a new army right now I thought it would be a good way to keep motivated and hopefully inspire other people to keep on building and painting.

I'd like to thank the many other people on warseer with excellent project logs as they have all been an inspiration for me. Hopefully I can keep this going and live up that standard.

Well enough of that on to the army!

I am looking at making around 3000pts of Angels Encarmine. This is one of the Second Founding Blood Angels Successor Chapters with little information on them. What is said is they are never happy to be at peace and so are one of the most active Space Marine Chapters in the Imperium. This means they are normally below strength as they don't take time between campaigns to recoup losses but more worryingly for the Chapter is the fact they rarely have fewer than 30 Marines in their Death Company.

The paint scheme is a red gore for the armour with black backpacks. They also paint Death Company and Sanguinary Guard white instead of black. I added my own touch of bleached bone helmets instead of the standard colour changing helmets of Blood Angels Chapters.

In my 3000pts I have planned for:
10 Sternguard (as Deathwatch Kill Team)
    20 Assault Marines
    10 Tactical Marines
    10 Death Company
    5 Honour Guard (on foot)
    2 Librarians (one Deathwatch)
2 Sanguinary Priests (one Deathwatch Apothecary)
    2 Chaplains
    3 Attack Bikes
    4 Land Speeders (2 Deathwatch)
    1 Rhino
    1 Razorback
    2 Predators
    1 Death Company Dread
    1 Dreadnought
    2 Drop Pods

As you can see I have a mixed hybrid style force planned with enough models to change style in smaller games. The original army list design came about by picking the coolest models I wanted with some stuff I had left over from another army.

Now to start off the log I'll show you my Angel Encarmine factory and some of my latest WIPs.

If everybody knows that nobody expects the Inquisition, is it really that unexpected when the Inquisition is found exactly where nobody expected to find them...

Re: Angels Encarmine by Cry of the Wind

This here is my first proper test model. I have a poor over painted Space Marine somewhere else but this model has only been primed once so I'll show it off first. It is still a WIP and I think I will make the 4 exhaust stacks black to match the black backpacks of the infantry.

Funny thing about this Pred and its unprimed partner is that they are only in the list because I never got around to painting them for my Dark Angels (4k of them and I got bored...).

A good solid red you have there, but I would recommend doing something with the blue lenses, it'll really help the model make that step *up*!

The LoTD models are being put to good use, looking forward to seeing more!

Re: Angels Encarmine by Cry of the Wind

The model is still WIP, the lens' will get a bit more attention when I finish the rest of the detail work. As that tank is a test model I might also try doing a little bit of weathering with some silver on the edges to make it pop a bit more.

I'm really happy with the red though it took a lot of work since I don't have an airbrush. Basically White Prime, Red Gore then wash with Baal Red and Delvan Mud and then more Red Gore when its all dry. Not a lot of skill but it is time consuming watching the washes dry.

I just have the one Legion model in the army, I saw him and had to have him. Only way I figured I could use him was as a Chaplain so into the Death Company he went.

I also thought I'd post a couple shots of my first test model for the army. This guy has two coats of primer and several layers on top of that so keep that in mind... The real models will not look like that and for proof at the bottom I've added a WIP shot of my attack biker marines.

Last update for today I have a question. Which do you like better the Chaplain with Helmet On or with Bionic Head?

I'd say a helmet, its what makes Chaplains so recognisable (apart from the black armour and book and crozius...)

The red is wonderfully rich on those bikers, let's see some more!

Ok here is another update. Since I'm not getting too much feedback yet I thought I'd post some of my cooler stuff. Here are my attack bikes:

The full squad. I don't like the side car on attack bikes and after seeing Whiteflames log I had to make some quad bikers. I didn't like the idea of a second rider so I'm just saying the extra bulk is worth a wound.

Close up on the "sergeant". I know there are no options for an attack bike segeant but thought it would be nice to have a sqn leader. You can also see how I mounted the Multi-melta there a little better. Hopefully these guys will be painted this weekend.

Nice work on the quadbikers dude! they do indeed look much better than the standard attack bikes!

Always good to see some deathwatch around! He's a red scorpion right? The FW pad leads me to believe so!

    Keep up the good work!

And a few more things today:

Here is a close up of the Death Company Dreadnought. As you can see its basically a stock Chaplain Dread. I did have to make the flamer and melta to replace the two stormbolters it came with. Sadly I ran out of larger ones so those are actually a hand flamer and an inferno pistol. I guess the dread systems can overcharge them or somthing...

This is my favourite Death Company marine so far (I've only got 3 built out of ten...). Just a kitbash here with a MkIV helmet, MkII armour a Blood Angel backpack and Sanguinary Guard arms. I just love how he looks and can't wait to see him in white.

This is my second Assault Squad Sergeant. As you can see I'm giving all my "minor" jump pack characters the Sanguinary wings. I think it helps make the models stand out and inspired fear on the table. I also found a use for the metal Vanguard squad I won at a tourny a year or so back. Added bonus the metal models are taller with their scenic base so they stand over the regular marines too as if the wings weren't enough.

Lastly my single Tactical Squad Sergeant. MkII armour with a Thunder Hammer and Combi-melta. Nothing too special but I love the laurel helmets from the Sanguinary Guard.

Please feel free to give an suggestions or feedback on what you have scene so far. I still have decided on the Chaplain helmet/head either so please send in you vote.

Thanks! Nice catch on the Red Scorpion shoulder pad. I got the Sevrin Loth model and he comes with a Red Scorpion command squad. I was able to use some of those parts but some things just had too much Scorpion on them. I figure of all the Chapters out there the Red Scorpions would have the most battle tested Apothecaries as they keep tossing them into Tactical Squads. The Narthecium says he is here to help, the Power Sword says "not you though...you're gonna die...".

Nice start there, better than mine that are still on sprues. The Army Painter's Dragon Red might help make your life easier I think. Remember though to shake, shake, and then shake some more before using it.

    I vote for the bionics.

Re: Angels Encarmine by Cry of the Wind

Thanks guys, so I have one vote for the helmet and one for the bionics. I'll admit I've spent some time switching the two heads out and still can't make up my mind. I think I might be leaning towards the bionic head but am not convinced.

MaxSigmund glad you like him, which head would you go with?

I checked that out DarkMark but they don't seem to ship to Canada. I know from my time working at GW here that primer had a hard time getting through American/Canadian customs, might be trickier overseas. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'll post some Deathwatch Kill Team pictures later today. Any more votes for the Chaplain Head?
