Roots of Darkness -Radical Xenos Inquisitor RPG Recruitment

By giving an ounce of thy own blood I summon thee back from the darkest pits of the forum and bring forth new life! Live Roots of Darkness! LIVE!

    .....

Sorry, I am just excited to finally be feeling well enough to get back into GMing. I am eager to begin recruitment again, however, I would like a clean slate and shall be altering the character restrictions.

Thank you for those that did originally apply for the RPG and I hope to have you back in this game.

    RPG:
It has been four years since I begun my Investigation of the Virgo Zeta sub-sector and the heretical arms trade of Xenos weaponry. My investigation started with finding the vendors and following the shady links to the suppliers of the weapons trade. At first I expected it to be a Rogue Trader, but as my investigation continued I began to realize it was apart of a criminal cartel associated with pirateering, slavery, dangerous Xenos artifacts, drugs and other assorted crimes that the cartel profited from. It was at this point I located my true target, a man known by my staff and myself simply as the Arms Dealer.

The cartel itself did not warrant immediate Inquisitor interference and I have resolved to turn over my findings to my brethren within Ordo Hereticus once I have achieved my own aims. The Arms Dealer, however, is a stealthy and enigmatic person with vast resources at his disposal and has numerous contacts to achieve his own personal goals. He does not only deal in Xenos weapons, but also has links to Xenos beasts for Coliseum matches and illegal Xenos artifacts. I have no actual evidence of the individual's appearance, personality, or how he actually arranges his deals. If it had not been for the perception abilities of my Interrogator and his reading of the Imperial Tarot, I would not have even known this Arms Dealer existed or arranged this meeting.

Through a cartel source on Jeda Prime, I was able to establish a connection and open trade dealing for Eldar weapons with the Arms Dealer. It had taken my extensive contacts sixteen months to get this far and see the results from cultivating my cover of an arms trader trying to join the cartel. This meeting was my true test to see if I could sell the Eldar weapons and pay the Cartel its due plus my entrance fee. I was to meet with a contact from the Arms Dealer, pay for the weapons to prove my personal wealth and from there, my investigation would progress using the source.

I have assembled a team for this meeting, a unit built from various contacts I have met during my travels and with these men and women I intend to capture the Arms Dealer. To further cultivate my image, I have allowed a variety of shady individuals from Imperial society to continue with the atmosphere I am an arms dealer. I pray to the Emperor I am able to catch this Arms Dealer and bring him to justice.

    END OF JOURNAL ENTRY
    Author: Inquisitor Imelia Judith Ulkaret

Plot: The RPG is a Radical Xenos RPG meaning my Inquisitor is a Xenos Inquisitor that uses subtle means of Investigation and understands not all Xenos are considered a threat all the time. She began an investigation into what she believed to be a weapons cartel in seeking an increase of Xenos weapons found on gangers across the sector and led to finding an individual actively dealing in Xenos weapons and artifacts. The individual has become her sole target because of his multiple heresies and she has resolved to bring him to justice and after that submitting her findings of the cartel to the Ordo Hereticus. She knows that once the information of the cartel is submitted, she will be tied up taking on the cartel with the Inquisitors from Ordo Hereticus and can not afford such a delay in stopping the Arms Dealer.

The Inquisitor along with her Interrogator and her staff she has arranged a meeting with the Arms Dealer under the guise of an arms trader. She has cultivated the image she wants to buy Eldar weapons to sell to a Noble house and continue to work with the cartel as a supplier for their dealings. She has promised the Noble House has further interests and is only willing to buy the weapons first as a show of faith before they begin other shady dealings. Her contacts within House Sharbarella have been of a real use and if it was not for her extensive team of contacts and agents, she would not be in this position to finally track down and either eliminate or arrest the Arms Dealer.

The Inquisitor has contacted several of her agents to bring the Arms Dealer down arranging from straight muscle, weapon experts, Tech Adepts, assassins and various other specialists. These men and women are to be her entourage and bodyguards in the fight that will inevitably happen and intends to keep them at ready now at this pivotal point of her investigation. One slight miscalculation could send their target deeper underground and she does not intend to take any risks. The team was carefully selected with each specialist selected to aide her in this task.

    Characters Requirements and Limitations:

    Limitations:
*No Space Marines, Sisters of Battle or Power Armor characters
*No Xenos characters of any nature
*0-1 Psykers (remember these psykers work for a Xenos Inquisitor)
*0-2 Tech Adepts (must be members of Biolgis or Explorator)

    Weapon Limitations:
*Heavy Weapons: 0-1, weapons available: Heavy Stubber or Heavy Flamer
*Assault Weapons: 0-2 weapons available: 0-2 Flamer, 0-1 Grenade Launcher or 0-1 Plasmagun
*Power Weapons, Lightening Claws and Powerfists: please be mindful of your character and if they really would have one.

GM holds the right to ask for weapon load out edits and character approvals. All limited characters and weapons are first come first serve usually, however, if I do not approve of your character it will free up the limited spot. If you reserve a limited character, please at least give a summary of the character for me to decide right away if it will work with the RPG.

Your character works for a Radical Xenos Inquisitor; however, she is a strong believer of her role in Imperial society and being a vessel for the Emperor's Will. She is a puritan at heart, but has an understanding of necessary risks and accepting the consequences to achieve her goals. She does still feel the weight of each decision and the consequences, but she does not doubt her methods.

    First GM Character:

    Name: Imelia Judith Ulkaret
    Gender: Female
    Age: 85 standard Terran years
    Ordo: Xenos
    Role/Rank: Inquisitor
    Affiliation: Radical
    Height: 6'2
    Weight: 190

Appearance: Inquisitor Ulkaret is usually dressed in casual attire associated with Rogue Traders and wears loose pants, a black form fitting short with a tanned open vest jacket and knee height black groxleather boots. Underneath she wears a tight fitted bodyglove and over her outfit she wears a dark purple hooded mantel woven with flak fibers. She has a regal appearance with a developed physique of a field operative, with short dark red hair just above her neck and her striking yellow eyes. She can be considered beautiful by some men while others would see her as a threat to their manhood in her dominating appearance and commanding eyes.

Personality: Inquisitor Ulkaret is a radical Inquisitor with an open mind and understands the grey area that is considered life. She sees the black and white of things, but opens her mind to the grays to find the real roots of a heresy. She is cold, calculating and does not fear away from making hard-line decisions. She is not prone to irrational decisions, hates random variables and is extremely discomforted by a situation that has grown out of her control. She commands her forces through her strong personality, fierce determination and her strong belief in her purpose as an instrument of the Emperor. She remains aloof from her contacts and rarely speaks of her past or who she is, choosing to keep her specialists at an arms length to prevent her growing a fondness for them. Ultimately the specialist will die or move on and she protects herself by not getting personal.

    Wargear:
-Power Sword: a one handed power sword blessed by the High Priestess of Saint Agatha.
-Chainsword: a standard one handed chain sword
-Bolt Pistol: a Mars Pattern bolt pistol
-Flak Armor: Ulkaret prefers flak fatigues and armor over carapace for its light material and flexibility during close combat.
-Eldar Shuriken Pistol: a gift from an Eldar Warlock after a joint endeavor of a Genestealer Cult purge.

Background: An Imperial Navy orphan, she was inducted into the Schola with the intentions of her training to be a Sister of Battle or the Stormtrooper regiment at the early age of four standard terran years. For ten years she was an above average pupil until she began both her combat training and indoctrination of the Sisters of Battle. It was during the next four years, her strength of will and character was monitored by another Imperial organization, the Inquisition. The Inquisition regularly probed the Schola every five years for possible recruits and the young Imelia Judith Ulkaret was among the few to be chosen.

At the age of 19, Ulkaret was assigned to Inquisitor Yerfern of the Ordo Xenos and she began her training as an Interrogator. She was already considered a marksman, achieving the second highest rank in her class and was the top ranking unarmed and armed close combat duelist in her graduating year. She preferred an old art of using both a chainsword and powersword combination and during her time with Inquisitor Yerfern, she was taught even further of different styles of defense and offense with the weapons and advanced her skills with this dangerous art. She earned a few self inflicted scars from the chainsword with clumsy movements and failing to stop the teeth from hitting her own skin, but with the constant training from Yerfern and his staff, she was able to master the skills.

Her training also consisted of reading journals, books, and theses on different Xenos, sentient and non-sentient, Xenos weapons, artifacts and whatever information Inquisitor Yerfern gave for her to understand. Inquisitor Yerfern believed you had to understand and think like a Xenos to prevent their heresies from consuming the Imperium and rotting it from the inside out. It was during these years working with Inquisitor Yerfern, Ulkaret was trained to work as a subtle field operative and was shown evidence to why this method produced stable results in finding the true roots instead of cutting the heresy off at the stem.

Her career was nothing extremely special and even though together Inquisitor Yerfern and herself did take down Xenos heretics and launched investigations into Tyranid swarms and genestealers, they did not cultivate any real renown. It was not until at the age of 45, barely 26 years later when she was promoted as an Inquisitor did Inquisitor Ulkaret make a name for herself amongst the Virgo Prime Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Lords with the live capture of a Patriarch.

Through dealings with the mysterious Eldar, Inquisitor Ulkaret was able to track the roots of an extensive Genestealer cult and in the joint task force eliminate it entirely. In agreeing with their fragile alliance, the Eldar aided Ulkaret in capturing the Patriarch and in return Ulkaret was not sure how the Eldar directly benefitted. The Warlock she was associated with never informed her of the Eldar's own purpose in aiding her and was evasive when she questioned him, but they held up their end of the bargain. It was with this capture, Inquisitor Ulkaret was able to receive stronger tasks and possible investigations.

From that capture her list of specialists have grown over time and her list of deeds from discovering and preventing a Necron tomb world from being activated by a rogue Xenos Archeologist to other activities that have shaped the woman. After 66 years of service to the Ordo Xenos and the last four of her career being devoted to tracking down the Arms Dealer, she has been training her own Interrogator and sees a lot of promise in the young man's talents. Having been assigned to her six years ago to mark her sixtieth year of her career, she has no doubt if he survives the young man would make a talented Inquisitor.

    Second GM Character:

    Name: Micheal Lorenzo Rannek
    Gender: Male
    Age: 27 standard Terran years
    Ordo: Xenos
    Role/Rank: Psyker/Interrogator
    Affiliation: Radical
    Height: 5'9
    Weight: 173lbs

Appearance: Rannek has young boyish features with a constant five o'clock shadow on his face. He has close cropped blonde hair with dark blue eyes and a relatively handsome face. He has a low forehead showing the signs of wrinkles and already he has dark rings around his eyes from his psychic powers. He has pale features and wears reading glasses when studying textbooks. He wears standard black fatigues and combat boots. Rannek carries always carries his hellpistol and chainsword with him and is rarely seen without his flak jacket.

Personality: Rannek is a light hearted individual who attempts to create relationships with those he works with. He has a thirst for knowledge and can be thought of neurotic in the sense of how much he talks. People see it as him being nervous and over anxious when in truth he is just curious and naturally talks to prevent boredom. He is young in the sense of age and experience and is still naive to the actual field work. He comes across as clumsy and during combat he is still green and is actually considered an intellectual compared to a fighter, but he is not entirely incapable of combat, just lacks actual experience.

    Wargear:
-Flak fatigues and jacket: His uniform was presented to him by Inquisitor Ulkaret and he has been ordered to wear the uniforms at all times unless otherwise specified.
-Hellgun: a modified lasgun with a stronger rate of fire and heavier impact
    -Chainsword: a one handed chainsword.

    Psyker:
-Precognition: Interrogator Rannek is able to skim the surface of the Warp and seek clues of the future through both meditation and the Imperial Tarot. His abilities are strong and can be accurate, but he is a long way from mastering the ability and making sense of the visions the Warp allows him to glimpse.

-Pyromancy: Interrogator Rannek is also able to summon forth flames of the warp in a limited fashion from fireballs to releasing actual streams of warp flames at an opponent. This is his most stable power and even though he is not as strong as other Pyros, he is still a competent user.

    Background:
At the early age of twelve, young Micheal began to have visions of a black ship and a mysterious man showing up take him away because of what he was. He knew he was a psyker and knew he was meant to be taken away because of the threat to Imperial society he was taught about in the Imperial church. When the predicted date happened, he went calmly and explained extensively to his parents why it was necessary he was taken away from them. The Witch Hunter charged with rounding him up was shocked at how compliant the young man of fourteen was and the Black Ships took him away for processing.

It was aboard that ship it became apparent the extensive natural psychic talents and his intellectual capacity for learning. He was to be slated to serve as a sanctioned psyker when the Inquisition caught his profile and he was immediately taken into one of the special schools for training psychic Inquisitors. At this school, he was in the top of his class academically and in the school of Cognition, he was a star pupil with some of his visions leading to field operations. In the school, he was also trained in various combat arts, but was always intermediate or just above average in these arts and was considered to need personal tutoring.

By the time, Rannek was twenty, he was assigned to the Ordo Xenos and his first Inquisitor, Inquisitor Wileyou. For a year he served with the Inquisitor in a Tyranid war seeking out pure strains for further understanding and development of weapons as per Inquisitor Lord Kryptman's teachings. It was during the final capture of a Zoanthrope that Inquisitor Wileyou was struck down and later died on a medical bed. The mission was still declared a success and Interrogator Rannek was assigned to Inquisitor Imelia Ulkaret after three months of his previous master's death.

For the last six years, he has worked diligently for his new mistress and has continued to train extensively for combat and his psychic powers to prevent the death of his Inquisitor. He is showing great promise with his powers and his studies, continuing to show his place amongst her immediate entourage. He strives to one day be his own Inquisitor and take the fight to the enemies of the Imperium.

-Alright, this RPG is open to recruitment and I hope to receive thought out characters intended for this RPG. Let’s see if I can get this RPG to a natural conclusion.

Re: Roots of Darkness -Radical Xenos Inquisitor RPG Recruitment

    Welcome back to the forum.

Edit: Never mind, I forgot about this character I originally submitted and would still like to use him:

    Name: Cyro Locanzer Orlock
    Age: 43
    Gender: Male
    Class: Xenologist/Big Game Hunter
    Height: 5'8
    Weight: 186lbs
Appearance: Cyro has the appearance of a rogue hunter, with a camoflague cape, a brimmed light brown hat, dark green carapace chest armor, groxhide trousers and thick black hiking boots. He has short light brown almost blonde hair, sharp black eyes, unshaven and is considered to be attractive with his rogueish appearance and face. He usually wears a smile and has perfect white teeth.

Personality: Cyro is a hunter and when hunting is a serious person who remains quiet, in control and takes great efforts at stealth to achieve his goals. He can be quite ruthless and will stop at nothing to finish the hunt and kill his target. In this regard he is similar to an assassin in the mindset, but he does not have their mental conditioning and during these hunts, he may give an outward image of calm, but inside he is battling gross paranioa, doubt and the risk of failure. When in a relaxed enviroment, Cyro tends to talk in depth about his hobby of Xenology and talks as if he has a lot to say, but never has anyone to talk to. He is charming, but almost appears shallow in this regard as he can be seen as a flirt and can find himself in trouble without meaning to.

    Wargear:
-Needle Rifle: a modified sniper rifle that propels a toxic sliver or "needle" at the enemy and disposes of them with silence and ease. Cyro tends to load traquilzer toxins, but can swap out to neural rounds.

-Shotgun: a single barrel shotgun that is used by Cyro to take down naturally armored Xenos in close confines. He carries both solid rounds and scatter rounds.

-Laspistol: a last resort weapon holstered on his hip that Cyro uses as a back up.

-Hunting Knife: a modified hunting knife that Cyro uses in conjuction with the laspistol.

-Carapace Armor Torso and Flak fatigues

Hunting Supplies: In his rucksack Cyro carries a variety of gear, from bandages, a skinning knife, a hatchet, and other various items he would take when hunting.

Background: Cyro grew up on Sylverra, a planet with an ecosystem similar to that of Terra, but with subtle differences that marked it as a Xenos planet. The planet has lush tropical jungles that are a deathworld for those that hunt in the jungles, to lush green plains and an artic continent. Each continent has its own predators and prey worth hunting and as the son of a wealthy merchant, Cyro was expected to par take in the sport of hunting.

At a young age, he was schooled in shooting, weapon maintenance, skinning and tanning, survival courses and various other classes to train the young man in the sport of hunting. This schooling was also coupled with maths, reading, and writing to begin his education in becoming a merchant like his father, but Cyro prefered the lessons in hunting and in particular the education of learning of the different species that inhabitated his world. He absorbed the material and at the age of twelve, he was taken on his first hunt.

For five nights Cyro was left in the Aria Forest with an objective to come back with a trophy to mark his ascension into manhood. It was a rite of passage amongst thewealthier individuals of society and a well respected rite if the young man passed. During this hunt, Cyro became accustomed to the constant threat of being attacked in the night and took his time in finding the right animal to hunt. On the third day he found one of his grain lures had been teased at and immediately took roost in a near by tree, his hunting rifle locked and loaded. It was on the night of the fourth his prey entered his scopes, but he had not realized it was he who was also being hunted. Before he could take the shot, he was attacked by a Sylvania Raptor.

It the fleeting fight for his life against the reptilian bird creature that resembled a raptor with the head of an ostrich and razor sharp teeth, attempting to stay out of its reach and snap off a shot with his rifle. It wa in the confusion he tripped and fell backwards and it was in this move that gave him the split second he needed to shoot. The slug penetrated the neck of the raptor and after a few minutes of it thrashing it finally died. After gaining his confidence back, the young man began to take the head of his trophy. When he was taken back home, he accumlated fame for his killing of the Raptor.

For the next fourteen years, Cyro took part in the Great Hunts and continued to make a name for himself as a top marksman and his hunting talents. It was with the competition money that Cyro was able to equip himself with expensive weapons and tools before finally affording a passage off-world. At the age of twenty-six, Cyro took into the stars to discover more animals and hunt them. It was a simple minded idea that soon led to his dealings with the Inquisition.

On the planet of Rancord, he took a job in tracking a dangerous predator and not knowing any more than that, he was soon enlisted to track down a Tyranid Lictor by a Xenos Inquisitor. It was a mission he wanted to forget and barely came back alive, but it renewed his passion to learn more about Xenos and he continued to serve with the Inquisition.

For the last seventeen years Cyro has served as both a Hunter and a Xenologist for Xenos Inquisitors for different Inquisitors and found himself in a lot of different missions. He continues to hunt and track different Xenos when he gets the chance, but he primarily works for the Inquisition. Having serve in a dozen of different missions under Xenos Inquisitors, Cyro has been able to increase his understanding of Xenos and effective ways of handling them. He has a deep fascination with Tyranids and has found the contstant evolution of the monsters both interesting and terrorfying.

Having served with Inquisitor Ulkaret on a previous mission in his past, he was pleased to see she had need of him once again and made haste to renedvous with the Inquisitor.

Re: Roots of Darkness -Radical Xenos Inquisitor RPG Recruitment

    Same character ok?

    Name: Marcus Eraal Frene
    Gender: Male
    Age: 27
    Role/Rank: Xeno Linguist – Lieutenant
    Affiliation: Naval Intelligence

Equipment: Heirloom Laspistol, Folding ‘Bulpup’ Lasgun, Wrist Mounted Naval Auspex/Cogigator, Chest Carapace, Naval Uniform, In-Ear Comms, Dress Uniform, Personal Clothing, Platinum Wrist Chronologer (Naval Fashion), Personal Cogigator (Book Sized).

    Appearance:
    Height: 6’
    Weight: 158lbs
    Hair: Black
    Completion: Olive
    Build: Athletic

Personality: Marcus is very much a product of his environment, a strict naval family upbringing combined with 5 years of academy training in addition to intel tuition he is now a decorated and well respected officer. Disciplined, controlled and organised he is ever the officer remaining stoic and detached in professional situations. The lieutenant’s faith in the Emperor is absolute and he is unflinchingly loyal to the imperium. In the right company the man is likable; bright and articulate, he makes good conversation and is not lacking of a Navy bred sense of humour, lewd and nonchalant. Marcus is educated and experienced, he understands that the black and white of Imperial creed is all well and good in theory but in practice the universe is of a far greater scope. Aboard 'The Last Day' an Emperor Class Battleship of which his father had once been commander the lieutenant spent many an hour engrossed in the captain’s personal library. A vast collection of rare and priceless literature available to all of the ships officers and their few dependants, within he found recounts of the works and writing of many of the imperium’s finest servants, from Guilliman to Biota. He filled the long dull hours of deep space voyages slaving over texts, fighting to break through the archaic pros of their authors and access the knowledge and understatings hidden within. Amongst all of the great writers hidden within the compendium Fene took a liking most of all to the philosophies and testament of Inquisitor Gideon Ravenor who’s treaties laid the foundations for own Marcus’s intellect and perspective. Where before Marcus had blindly accepted all that he had been told by the preachers of the Ecclesiarchy and his scholar tutors, Ravenor’s volumes laid the way for Marcus to begin to think for himself and open his mind to the realities of the Imperium, Humanity and the many threats it faces. Unlike many in his position Frene recognises the true nature of the Imperium; its terrifying glory, swollen corrupt foundations and dogmatic stagnant ways. He recognises and acknowleges all these things and yet as discussed by Ravenor, he also understands it’s nature as humanity made manifest. Where many would draw a line of distinction between humanity and the Imperium Frene understands that the two are one and the same, neither able to persist without the other. He looks towards the Emperor as the human race's shining example and swore as an adolescent to devote his life to ‘His’ service, to the service of the Imperium and his race through whatever means he must. In the service and protection of humanity, the ends can always justify the means.

Background: As the son of a gentry naval commander Marcus is of upper-class Imperial stock, brought up with the many benefits such a social position brings but surrounded by the strict disciplined structures of the Imperial Navy on a number of bases and starships he is the antithesis of an officer of the Emperor’s Navy.

Showing a natural proficiency for languages from a young age and guided by his father, Frene entered the Navy as a cadet already fluent in multiple forms of proto and local gothic dialects and possessing a basic knowledge of many basic xeno linguistic forms. Recognising the value of these skills the Navy quickly had him transferred to train within the naval intelligence program where his gift was best fostered. Marcus excelled and quickly became top of his class, taking advantage of the extensive tuition and resources available to turn his hand to even the most complex xenos languages finding fluency in Tau, Kroot, a number of Ork dialects and even proficiency in the near impossible Eldar tongues.

Through his training Marcus spent many months aboard the fighting ships of numerous battlefleets and was found to be a competent officer, directing his sections well and conducting himself impeccably with both crewmen and officer alike. On a number of occasions Ferne’s performance gained a deal of praise from superior officers, most notably on one occasion aboard the Dauntless Class ‘His Divine Will’ where his knowledge of xeno languages saved the vessel from an Ork ambush and lead to the successful destruction of a number of alien vessels.

Marcus was given his first commission at the age of 23 working within the naval headquarters of the Segmentum Ultima, overseeing a division of servo-thralls used to translate and intercept xeno transmissions. Using his own significant skills to up the performance of his division he quickly caught the attention of his superiors and currently serves as a first lieutenant, answering directly to Rear Admiral Neptunus Junius, head of naval intelligence within the Virgo Zeta sub-sector.

The Imperial Navy has tried for many years to break the grip of ‘The Arms Dealer’ over the sub-sector however the loss of ships to the Cadian conflict as well as the unusually vast areas of open void between systems within the sector has made the task extremely difficult. The battlefleet has operated extensive stop and search programmes across its jurisdiction and many ships found to be carrying the contraband have been taken or destroyed but it has been clear for some time these raids alone are not enough to put an end to the illicit activities of the smugglers. With this in mind naval intelligence has monitored traffic and transmissions in the area over past months and begun to make some leeway into deciphering the cabal’s communications and plotting their command structures in an operation headed Marcus himself.

Having now been contacted by Inquisitor Ulkaret on the matter, Naval Command have curtailed to her demands; issuing her party with all current information gathered on ‘The Arms Dealer’ and placing their own investigations on hold. Lt. Frene, liaison between the fleet and the Inquisitor’s party during the transfer, now finds himself having been brought into the Inquisitor’s service as she confronts the Xeno Smugglers. This came as some surprise to the young man after he and the inquisitor ‘exchanged words’ over her orders to scrap his own operation. An Inquisitor of Ulkaret’s years and experience knows better than to put personal clashes before her service to the Emperor and in fact found something endearing in Frene’s commitment to the cause.

With a good knowledge of the sectors involved, the cell's organisation and practices, as well as their means of encryption through the use of a number of alien languages and codes Marcus is in good stead to be an asset to the party as they take on The Arms Dealer and attempt to bring the cell to the light of the Emperor’s justice.

Consider this an expression of interest, but I'm afraid as of yet I haven't come up with the faintest idea of a character.

Thank you for the interest RampagingRavener. Sorry about banning Xenos, but I feel it was more streamlined with my Inquisitor and the warband. Miss Lazokas is still one of my favorite characters, next to Dupont and Lilia. Touch of Destiny was a good RPG and I wish I got to finish it. If this does not work out, I may try to revive it in some fashion.....

Welcome back Cleal Baros, the character is confirmed. Hopefully this time I will fulfill my objective of getting past the recruitment stage.

Re: Roots of Darkness -Radical Xenos Inquisitor RPG Recruitment

Gunny Jack has been moved into a different RP that seems to fit him better, so here's a redo of Valari:

    Name: Valari Daemron

    Age: 73, though juvenat-assisted

    Rank: Sanctioned Psyker

    Psyker/Blank: Telekine, Gamma-class

Personality: Valari is, in a word, dour. She carries herself with self-confidence but has an annoying habit of stating the worst-case scenario, and the other sixteen or so almost-worst-case scenarios. She's a keen appraiser of people, a skill she has refined through fifty-six years of Inquisitorial service. However, if required she can shout orders like the seasoned combat veteran that she is (while, of course, getting some funny looks).

Appearance: Valari would be pretty if she ever got her head around the idea of actually trying to be (luckily, her line of work doesn't generally require that) as well needing to look about four years younger than she currently does. She's slim, shortish, black-haired, utilitarian and wears a full-body camosuit the majority of the time. The deep scars running across her face and most of her visible body seem odd until you see the hard, critical look that is almost default for her. Odder still are the contacts glowing faintly on her scalp beneath her hair, the eerie and partially luminescent augmetic eyes, and her pair of what look like thick, reinforced black gauntlets with lines of light blue running up the arms.

    Equipment:
Force Gauntlets: These ancient artifacts were found below the barren surface of Thraxa IV and inspected closely by some of the greatest minds of the Mechanicus with no notable success. They allow Valari to focus her psychic power into discrete forms which, while insubstantial, can exert an incredible and disproportionate amount of force. These are also quite useful for covert operations, as the focused application of telekinetic force can open most locks in existence in one way or another. They attach up her arms into contacts built into her skull, and, as such, are irremovable. They also have the side-effect of giving her a nasty migraine after too much use.
Carbine: This is a wood-furnished six-pound highly accurate lever-action carbine firing 300-grain hollow-point bullets out of a 9-round tubular magazine and a 16.5" barrel. Valari encountered this weapon when it was used to kill the first inquisitor she was assigned to, and she claimed both it and its owner's head for his act.
Trophy Gun: A souvenir of a weapon that nearly killed her twice. An old gun with a falling-block action firing massive big-game rounds, it's still loaded with the bullet that nearly destroyed her liver the first time it was shot. A beautiful piece of work in museum condition, it's kept as a showpiece in her quarters permanently.
Camo-suit: One of the main tools of her trade, this is a slightly-adaptive full-body suit that masks thermal emissions. It's ancient and often-repaired from its numerous successes at saving her life. Every patched-up hole has a story to tell, and she remembers them all vividly, which is surprising seeing as there is very little of the original suit left.
Augmetic Eyes: Valari lost both eyes to radiation damage in a mission on the Black Jewel, Luthien, some twenty years ago now. In a touching display of rewarded loyalty, the Inquisition commissioned mechanical eye-replacements for her. While they often itch like a bastard, the ability to see with several different kinds of image enhancement almost makes up for it.
Replacement Organs: A person doesn't go through more than five decades of Inquisitorial service without taking lots of injuries. The sum total of all replacement or augmetic organs that Valari has accumulated over those years is: replacement livers (2), augmetic kidney (1), augmetic lower lung (1), augmetic eyes covered above (2), replacement stomach (1), and augmetic bladder (1). She now has a phobia of operating tables.
Necklace:This is a thin chain necklace that carries a silver ring and a massive pristine bullet on it. It hangs down over her heart and she never lets people see it.

History: Valari was picked up by the Black Ships at the tender age of eighteen months. She spent her first six years in the custody of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica before being recruited for training by the Inquisition. At the age of seventeen she was taken into active service by Inquisitor Frederick Engles, who she served with for six years before he was shot in the back of the head by the very weapon she keeps now. Following a several-year period of retraining and re-evaluation, she was assigned to Ordo Xenos offices of Segmentum Obscurus, Subsector Ares, where she was put under probation under the authority of Inquisitor Imelia Ulkaret. Years later, in the hunt for the infamous xenoist known only as Eyrdin, she took a shot in the liver from a gun used for hunting Krootox. She had to retire to be treated at the subsector headquarters on Sudeten, but when she recovered Imelia was undercover and Valari was reassigned to Cleutin Hezekiah, a fiercely Puritan inquisitor who she hated with a passion. She was spared the agony and torture of killing him when he stranded himself on the Crone World classified as Thraxa IV, seeking more xenos artifacts to destroy. She had managed to take one set of artifacts back to the Inquisition offices, where they were feverishly examined and squabbled over by the Adeptus Astra and Mechanicus. In disgust, the ranking inquisitor assigned them back to their finder for use, where, in order to test them, Valari was assigned back to Inquisitor Ulkaret, with which she has spent the last thirty-odd years of her service. A couple of rumours hung over her for a while that any inquisitor she served with was cursed, but as Imelia hasn't died yet, they seem to be temporarily disproven.

Re: Roots of Darkness -Radical Xenos Inquisitor RPG Recruitment

Let me know if I went overboard, pm or otherwise.

    Name: Magos Othren
    Age: 57
    Rank : Biologis
    Affiliation: Adeptus Mechanicus Divisio Biologis
    Height: 6' 3''
    Weight: 278 Ib

Appearance: Tall and lean he is a gangling creature clad in the rust red robes of the Tech-Priests of Mars, his face has bee entirely replaced by a smooth silver mask with delicate machine script inscribed on the surface, a re-breather grill where his mouth and jaw would be and mirrored ocular implants where his eyes would be. His right arm is a bionic upgrade equipped with numerous surgical blades and and delicate manipulating claws and clamps. Sliding from beneath his robes four mechadendrites mounted with various manipulator arms, optic's and medicae equipment wave sinuously in response to Othren's moods.

Personality: As Tech-Priests go Othren is a passionate and jolly man, considered somewhat eccentric by his colleagues his proclivity to collect Xenos tissue samples and obsession with the culture and social development of certain primitive Xenos species forced him into exile shortly after attaining the rank of Magos. Despite his odd appearance and conventional mechanicum obsession with augmetics he is infatuated with flesh and the manipulation of flesh particularly the evolution of alien life.

Equipment: Laspistol, shock staff, sacred unguents, medical supply kit, combi-tool, dataslate, servo-skull (medicae), sample harness.

    Mechanicus Implants:

Silver Mask (armored cranium, integrated micro-beed, re-breather, memorance implant, auger arrays, cybernetic senses, MIU)

    Calculus Logi

x4 Mechadendrites (Medicae, Manipulator, Optical, Utility)

    Bionic Arm (Surgical Tools)

History: Still very much a junior Biologis he is most well known for his published work Xenos: The Neurobiological Composite of the Alien Mind. While hailed by more radical members of the Divisio Biologis as a ground breaking work, his seniors saw it as stepping dangerously close to heresy and deemed it wise to distance both themselves and Othren from a potential investigation. His research was taken and most likely destroyed; with his work gone and his superiors pressuring him he took a position aboard the Explorator vessel Divine Seeker of the Omnissiah's Knowledge. His years spent there in quiet drudgery only reinforced his rebellious attitude. When given the opportunity to leave exile and enter into the service of the Inquisition he jumped at the opportunity, for his superiors it was undoubtedly simply another opportunity to be rid of a potential irritant, to Othren it was a chance to continue his research unimpeded.

Re: Roots of Darkness -Radical Xenos Inquisitor RPG Recruitment

    Name: Arlin Macraber
    Gender: Male
    Age: 38
    Role/Rank: Adept Secundus
    Affiliation: Adeptus Munitorum
    Height: 5'1
    Weight: 131

    Appearance:
Arlin is a short and stocky man with a shock of black hair and surprisingly tanned and weathered features for an adept. He has a an open and honest face, but there is a steel in his eyes and voice that can surprise people. He has 2 left fingers replaced by a data-jack, and his lower brain and upper spinal column are augmented by a memorance lace and internal cogitator.

Personality: Arlin is a sociable man, but is well learned and knows it, so often looks down on those who differ with his learned opinion. He often talks jovially of his war stories or his time in the Adepta,

    Wargear:
-Personal cogitator and dataslate, autoquill and other oddments of the adepts trade
-Adept robe discreetly reinforced with flak and mesh armour
-well maintained Dorcas pattern short autopistol with 3 clips, Mordian Pattern powered cavalry sabre.
    - augmentations include a data-jack replacing two of his left hand fingers, and the previously mentioned upgrades to his own brain.

    Background:
Arlin was always a trouble maker. Never content with his role in life in the administratum, he was often pushing his luck and jockeying for promotion. Such eagerness can only carry you so far before you hit a glass ceiling, and Arlin hit that ceiling at age 24. His way blocked by more senior adepts of much higher rank, and so Arlin turned to less. . .scrupulous methods of securing what he wanted. Though the death of High Prelate Mordin could never be pinned on Arlin, no-one was surprised when Arlin, with the help of an adept whose own position was once threatened by Mordin, was promoted to High Prelate of the Imperial Counting House on Regal IX.
His long desired position was not to last, however. Arlin knew too much and had to be dealt with, before he turned to blackmailing his betters. Strings where pulled, and a transfer was affected. Arlin was attached to the Departmento Munitorum and was made regimental Quarter Master to the 89th Mordian Armour Regiment.
While theoretically a promotion, it was infact a cunning attempt at murder. The 89th where quickly assigned to Warzone Grendel in the Venemus sector. During the disastrous first attempt to reclaim Eliphar, the regiment was surrounded in its drop zone and almost annihilated by constant infantry wave attacks in dense terrain, thousands of Orks throwing themselves at the regiment time and time again. Unable to escape and forced to stand and fight, the Mordians did so with courage and honour, and every able man was pressed into service. Arlin and his autopistol fought alongside dismounted Mordian Grenadiers, regimental cooks and fellow administratum scribes to protect the regiments valuable fuel and ammo dumps. By the end of the fighting and the relief of the regiment by the 2nd Company of Revenant Space Marines, Arlin was a hardened veteran, with a power sword requisitioned from a dying Sergeant and a score of minor wounds. He knew then that he could never return to the Adminstratum. He filed a transfer to the Ordo Xenos, emphasising his experience against the greenskins, his seniority, and his new augmentations. He was snapped up by Inquisitor Imelia after her previous scribe was eaten by hormagaunts. She hopes an adept with combat experience will last a little longer. . .

    Homeworld: Regal IX
Regal IX would be an uninteresting backwater but for one reason, it is the Virgo Zeta’s sub sector prime tithe submission world. When Imperial Tithes are gathered or assessed for a world nearby, it is done by the will of the adepts in the cold halls of the Imperial Counting House. The tithes are often gathered or redistributed there and as such the planet has grown from its humble agriworld beginnings (mainly exporting crotalid steak, grox patties and Soya) to a major trade nexus. This is primarily because Regal IX is located at the centre of several converging warp routes, and also because no other Adepta had a use for the rain soaked, gravity heavy world.

Re: Roots of Darkness -Radical Xenos Inquisitor RPG Recruitment

    Name- Kray Deovinnie
    Age- 39
    Gender- Male
    Height- 6’2
    Homeworld- Stavas Xll
    Role- Storm trooper

    Equipment:-
Flamer- Hand portable flame thrower with detachable fuel canister. Unremarkable in design though still shows scorching around the nozzle.

Hot-shot las pistol- The Storm Trooper’s side arm. More powerful than a standard las-pistol, this weapon has been dismantled and rebuilt more times then can be counted. It’s power comes from an external energy cell which resides on the combat webbing around Kray’s lower back. The cell and the pistol are connected by a thick power feed.

Combat webbing- Usually worn over his carapace armour. Helps keep combat supplies in easy reach at all times whether it be a medical kit to tools for maintaining his pistol.

Carapace armour- Charcoal coloured and seemingly in pristine condition. Covers his upper body with separate plates on his thighs. Offers good protection from light weapons fire.

11 inch combat blade- For when all else fails.

    Personality-
Calm under pressure and creative when the situation requires it. Focussed when in combat situations but always ‘aware’ when not.

    Appearance-
A life of hardship so far has left his face weather worn and rugged. There is a deep set determination is his green eyes that never seem to completely rest, discreetly searching, always planning that, at times, can make him seem uninterested if approached by another. His hair is dirty blond in colour and kept suitably short while his nose shows signs of being broken in the past. His body is suitably built for one in the profession given to him and as such combines both physical strength and athletic stamina. He was trained to kill, move quickly and swiftly and endure and evidence of this is present on his body that holds scarring of missions past.

    Background-
He had never known his father, or even his mother for that matter. Both were an unknown memory of the past that had played a role in his becoming who he was today. What he did know was that one of them had served upon an Imperial cruiser but that was as far as he had ever dug. His origins were not important to him; his parents had given him life, the Schola Progenium had given him purpose.

They had trained him and many other like him from an early age. They all, like him, had been orphaned by sum means or another. Some knew how though just as many didn’t but such thoughts were often crushed beneath the iron discipline of their mentors as they began their studies. At first it had been tough on them all but as the years past and their bodies grew, the discipline hardened them all as their minds were expanded by their studies, their souls strengthened through prayer and bodies through tough physical exercises.

To say that all those who were taken in by the Schola Progenium survived would be a lie. Perfection was what they were being trained towards and that involved hardships beyond normal means. This wasn’t parade ground drills or basic combat drills but things far more advanced. His first true eye witness of this was when he had watched a member of his squad plummet to her death when her grav-chute and failed to activate. To see her motionless on the ground, just laying there face down with an arm broken and bent at an odd angle…. It was one accident of many, some fatal; like O’Rease who lost his face when he had failed to properly rebuild his hellgun which resulted in the weapon over loading and exploding the next time he tried to fire it. Others not so like Gilli how lost a number of toes to frost bite whilst trying to navigate the mountain ranges to the north of the training facility.

When one faltered, the rest of them pressed ever onwards and soon, fully trained, they were pressed into active service, moving from warzone to warzone doing what they did best.

Re: Roots of Darkness -Radical Xenos Inquisitor RPG Recruitment

    Name: Lyra Aenid.
    Gender: Female.
    Age: 29
    Affiliation: Independent contractor.
    Height: 5’ 9”

Appearance: Like all Afriels, Lyra is albino. Both her skin and hair lack pigmentation, meaning they are pure white, and the irises of her eyes are red. Her hair is the overgrown remnants of a military buzzcut - kept short but usually rather uneven and scruffy, barely passing below her ears. Beyond such cosmetic details, Lyra appears very much to be the physical embodiment of a solider - other than her odd colouration, she looks like she could have stepped from the pages of recruitment pamphlet or screen of a propaganda broadcast. Her body, hardened by military life is toned and athletic body, pockmarked by dozens of minor scars and old wounds. Lyra's face is cold and hard, with a distinctly noble cast to it, and could be thought of as attractive. A portion of her upper right arm is covered in a twisted mass of scar tissue and a few scattered patches of ink. Finally, Lyra moves and speaks with a confidence that borders on arrogance, something that while subconscious and beyond her control, tends to easily trigger dislike in others.

Personality: Lyra cares for little beyond herself and her pocketbook. Though she once believed in the Emperor’s cause, years of horrendous wars that saw her regiments obliterated time and time again have eroded any sense of genuine duty or loyalty to the Imperium. Though jaded and cynical, Lyra remains possessed of the nonchalant, overly casual attitude of someone used to spending time around small, close groups of friends and allies, through the nature of her creation leaves her with an instinctual desire for combat and leadership. She misses the camaraderie of her old troopers and having a cause to fight for, leaving her prone to occasional bouts of bitter melancholy or suicidal daredevilry. Several years of operating on her own with no guidance from the wider Imperium has allowed Lyra to expand her mind substantially - she is surprisingly well-learned in both 'respectable' and potentially deviant knowledge.

    Wargear:
    Armoured Bodysuit:
Matte-black and reinforced with flak plates around vital areas. Provides moderate protection and insulation from extremes of temperature without restricting movement.
Triplex Pattern “Fury” Assault Laspistol: Often allocated to elite assault squads, this laspistol fires short bursts rather than single shots, making it ideal for clearing away enemies without slowing an advance.
Mars Pattern Mark IV Command Laspistol: Presented to officers upon reaching a command rank, these are higher powered than standard laspistols, designed to shoot further and hit harder without loss of accuracy.
Combat knifes: A pair of matching 12” long, tempered steel combat blades.

Background: The Afriel Strain. One of the Imperium's dirty secrets, a genetic experiment that blended DNA from the Imperium’s greatest heroes to create regiments of perfect soldiers. Each generation of soldiers was undeniably deadly skilled and stubbornly brave, imbued with all the skill and heroism of their genetic progenitors, but seemingly cursed with hideous ill-luck and doomed to attract the enmity of all around them. Each regiment created would see an initial period of extreme success before the curse would seem to take effect and see the Afriels torn to shreds in disaster after disaster. The few survivors would be cycled into the newly bred replacement as an officer cadre, to try and maximise the effective 'lifespan' of each Regiment as much as possible. In this manner, though after her basic training she wasn't judged to show any notable command skills beyond that which the Afriels were born with, Lyra Aenid would eventually progress from a simple line soldier to an Officer in charge of several platoons purely by merit of managing to survive the near-total destruction of her three Regiments in battle. In many ways she exemplified the Afriels - proud and unwavering, fighting with a vigour and dedication unheard of in other regiments of the Imperial Guard even as the curse would take hold and see her soldiers being cut down by everything from accidents to friendly fire. The first regiment Lyra was assigned to, after conquering several worlds that had fallen to heretical uprisings, became enough of a threat to the Great Enemy that a Warband of fallen Astartes deliberately sought them out. Though in many ways the Afriels were best that unaugmented humanity had to offer, against the shock assaults of the Chaos Space Marines they could do little to prevail. As the battered regiment attempted to withdraw under the cover of an orbital bombardment, a freak firing miscalculation saw a Lance Strike immolate most of the survivors rather than the Heretics hounding their feet. Of the few landing shuttles that managed to take off, most were shot down by enemy flak or intercepted by Hell Blade fighters. Only two limped home to safety, with Sergeant Lyra Aenid amongst them.

Being one of the few survivors with any position of rank, Lyra was shuffled into a newly created regiment and put in command of a platoon. There, she attained a reputation for notable displays of bravado and aggression on the battlefield, leading charges that would over-run positions deep within the enemy lines then stubbornly holding them against enemy counter-attacks long enough for reinforcements to arrive. However, for all the aggression and heroism she instilled in the troops under her command, it did little to avail her in the long run. After taking part in a series of bloody but successful engagements into an inter-tribe war between two factions Orks of Octavius to try and keep them locked in civil war for as long as possible, the regiment was redirected to aid in the quelling of a full-blown Genestealer cult insurrection. Three days after arriving and splitting up into smaller forces dedicated to hunting down the Genestealers and terrorist cells, a freak vox-blackout left the Afriels unable to communicate with one another nor co-ordinate their fire sweeps. Over the course of several months, the regiment was whittled down by enemy attrition, being led into traps, and on several occasions, friendly fire by local PDF regiments that mistook the Afriel's albino skin as a sign of alien taint and mutation. Sightings of Lictors sent ahead by the approaching Hive Fleet went unreported, and by the time the Patriarch was killed and the Afriels regrouped, Mycetic Spores had already began to enter the atmosphere. Lyra and the surviving soldiers were forced into fighting a brutal rearguard action as the world's governor and the other noble echelons were evacuated, before the ragged survivors were pulled back and the bulk of the civilians and PDF left to die. She never quite forgave the Imperium for that - both for leaving so many people to die, and for having wasted the lives of her troops in a pointless war.

Already worn down and tired by years of war, Lyra's breaking point came when, after a few skirmishes against the Q'orl on the western edge of the Galaxy as proving, an administrative error saw her third regiment assigned to the fear eastern fringe, where they were thrown into brutal wars of attrition against the Tau. Such merciless wave assaults were the utter opposite of the sort of war the Afriels had been bred and trained for, where all the bravery and skill at arms was rendered worthless in the face of an unending hail of Pulse Rifle fire. Victory was decided purely on strength of numbers, sheer good luck, and enough supporting artillery fire to pin the enemy in place - the first two things the Afriels lacked the most, and few friendly regiments were willing to work alongside the unnerving albino soldiers. Time and time again, Lyra led her soldiers in doomed charges, capturing meters of land as the Tau swiftly withdrew, then losing it moments later as they regrouped and counter-attacked in force. As their numbers dwindled, Lyra's faith failed. Confronted with the cruel, mindless regime of the Imperium and the utter failure of the Afriels to make any lasting difference in the Galaxy, she deserted. As the last few Afriels prepared for one final suicidal assault, Lyra slipped out in the night, stealing an Arvus lighter and making her escape. She used most of her equippment to buy passage off-world, in the hopes of starting a new life. Of the 15,000 men and women across the three Regiments Lyra served in, to her knowledge she is the only survivor.

Lyra would make a few half-hearted attempts at settling into a quiet life after her desertion. She burned the regimental tattoos off her forearm with a lascutter, but found that the aggression bred into her genetics prevented her from living like any other Imperial citizen. Too proud to slum it with underhive gangs and criminal enterprises, Lyra set herself up as an independent gun-for-fire and mercenary, both as a way of earning enough to survive and staving off the directionless ennui creeping into her psyche. She excelled in this, turning her skills over to the highest bidder with few concerns about ethics or morality. Furthermore, away from other Afriels, the curse seemed to have little hold over her. Though plagued by endless small misfortunes, compared to what had come before, they did little to bother her. It was perhaps this particular twist of ill-luck that saw the long arm of Imperial Law finally catch up with her despite everything she had done to erase knowledge of her past life, yet good fortune that it was Inquisitor Ulkaret and not a more Puritanical Inquisitor that would have seen her executed. Now, Lyra finds herself in the good Inquisitor's employ - though to Lyra, the Inquisitor differs little from any other paymaster she has worked for.

Re: Roots of Darkness -Radical Xenos Inquisitor RPG Recruitment

    Name: Sebastian Reiss
    Gender: Male
    Age: 48
Role: Warrior (the polite way of saying purchased muscle)
Affiliation: Formerly of the 333rd Armageddon Steel Legion; Sergeant
    Height: 6ft
    Weight: 200lbs

Background: Sebastian was born into and raised in the devastated lower wards of Hades Hive in the wake of Ghazghkull’s first invasion, an environment which made him into natural survivor, and tough enough bastard to take on the worst the universe has to offer and ask for seconds. Those who existed with in the rubble and ruin of Armageddon’s once great and prosperous hives endured by only by understanding the that to life is to fight, and that by fighting you live, against all and any that pose a challenge to that reality. To do otherwise is an unaffordable luxury that will inevitably result in death.

Survival in the blasted hives of Armageddon requires a communal effort, leading to the prevalence of large and violent gangs within the Underhive. They are a law unto themselves in these areas, mainly because the manpower cannot be spared from the constant frontlines, but also due to the fact that they provide a convenient buffer between rogue Ork bands that have escaped purging and the more important population centers above. When he was young, like most juvies, Sebastian found himself drawn into this culture.

After several years longer than he rightfully should have lived, Sebastian was drafted into the newest batch of regiments being raised now that the Ork menace had been contained to the fringes of Armageddon. By this time in his late teens, he’d seen and done plenty of terrible things just to make it to the next morning cycle. Gangers are especially common recruits into the Armageddon regiments, due to the availability of them, as well as the aptitude for violence and survival that makes an acceptable soldier in His Glorious Emperor’s Imperial Guard. Sebastian fit the bill.

Sebastian’s new home was the 333rd Steel Legion, a mechanized infantry regiment composed almost exclusively of gangland scum from Hades Hive, known as the “Hades Hellraisers”. The regiment and several other newly or refounded units were assigned as reinforcements to a reclamation effort, located within the more or less backwater Argus sub-sector, a rather poorly resourced and bloodily executed campaign. Such was the lack of manpower relegated to the area that it wasn’t unheard of for Xeno mercenary races, such as the Kroot or Loxatl amongst others, to be employed by both the Imperial and secessionist forces. The “Hades Hellraisers” were a mostly depleted unit after an effort of just over twenty years, as any reinforcements from Armageddon were necessary for the escalating crisis back home, so the hardened veterans that remained were being used as mechanized grenadiers in support of other regimental actions. Following the final subjugation of the Argus sub, and without the numbers to warrant its existence, the 333rd was disbanded.

Sebastian and several dozen veterans of the former “Hades Hellraisers”, those men and women whose only applicable skill was their skill at arms, found employment as contracted security aboard the free trader Glorious Reward. The shipmaster was well aware of reports of slavers and pirates being encountered in the Virgo sub, which his vessel would have to make transit through, and saw these veteran Imperial Guards as a wise bit of insurance just in case. This comfortable and profitable arrangement lasted until about three years previously, when the vessel was crippled and boarded by a slaver corsair.

Sebastian and the other “Hades Hellraisers” earned every crown they’d ever earned, going toe to toe with the numbers of slavers and their xeno weaponry with a life’s time worth of skill and expertise. As casualties mounted on both sides, it was eventually the slavers who broke first and tried to disengage. The veteran former Guards had held up the raiders long enough for the Imperial Navy to arrive and intervene, destroying the raider in a flurry of lance strikes as it attempted to flee justice. Sebastian was only one of seven of the 333rd veterans to survive the engagement.

Sebastian came into the employ of Inquisitor Ulkaret in the aftermath of this last battle of the “Hades Hellraisers”, following her investigation into the circumstances of both the attack and the suspiciously armed raiders. Being shrewd enough to guess why the Mamzel Inquisitor would be interested into the circumstances of these pirates, he volunteered his service to what he judged to be her cause in finding the root of the problem in the Virgo sub. This new assignment has satisfied Sebastian on several levels; not only providing an opportunity to give payback for his fallen comrades, but in a small sentimental way to serve the Emperor again like he did in the old days. Oh, and for the pay as well.

Appearance: Sebastian Reiss looks very much like the hardened ex-ganger and former soldier that he is, well worn yet standing tall and physically powerful after more or less a whole lifetime at warfare. He comes across as being aged prematurely, with his hair and goatee that is ever more salt than pepper, and skin that is scarred and craggy from his misspent youth and later service to the Emperor. The most pronounced of his facial scars are the ones up the right side of his face, cutting across his cheek and to just under his lower lip, as well as another horizontal one which bisects his forehead through brow. In addition to plenty of other scars that are hidden by clothes or armor, Sebastian also has an extensive collection of tattoos across his arms and torso. Even though he may have perpetual rings under his eyes as if he hasn’t slept in days, Sebastian’s amber eyes are bright and alert, regarding his environment and events around him.

Personality: Sebastian carries himself with the calm confidence of an experienced combat veteran. When it comes down to the mission, he is committed to nothing but the mission and its success, dedicated to getting it done and getting everyone home in more or less one piece. Socially he can be well mannered enough, generally not going out of his way to rock the boat too much, but more than willing to give it back twice as hard if instigated into it. While self admittedly not the most well educated individual in the universe, as his opportunities for schooling were limited, Sebastian is none the less intelligent enough in his own ways; relying on experience and a well developed set of instincts to make his judgments. He’s willing to listen and follow other’s expertise where he himself is lacking, having learnt that might doesn’t always equal right, but most certainly expects that courtesy returned when it comes to his end of the business. As such he is more morally flexible than what would be the Imperial normal; he’s been associated with and fought along with all types, such as xeno mercenaries to sanctioned psykers and everywhere in between.

    Wargear:
Armor: Partial suit of combat carapace, well worn and scuffed from years of use, yet still completely serviceable. It provides protection to the whole torso as well as the shoulders, shins, and knees. It’s painted in a khaki color with faded unit markings and non-standard designs/slogans. Underneath the suit is worn a studded leather hauberk backed with mesh to provide a measure of protection to the arms and thighs uncovered by the carapace.
Webbing: Full torso and waist harness which has enough pouches for any ammunition, rations, basic first aid, or maintenance equipment necessary for any mission. The webbing also provides the sheath for Sebastian’s knife, which is strapped vertically and down on the right side of his chest, as well as a holster on his right hip for his sidearm.
Lasgun with auxiliary grenade launcher: Simple and rugged construction for maximum ease of use for low skilled operators with minimum maintenance required, Sebastian has been diligently maintaining and using this firearm since it was issued, with any weapon failures the extremely rare exception to the rule. Constructed out of steel and various synthetics and plasteks, this weapon has been optimized for urban or shipboard combat, featuring an adjustable wire butt stock and under slung auxiliary grenade launcher. Sebastian has this weapon fitted with a sling made out of a length of heavy duty chain.
Autopistol: Trophy pistol, acquired from a dead pirate officer after the ill fated boarding attempt. Solid build and ability, yet very finely detailed. Brushed chrome and engraved ivory grips just add that pretentious touch to the weapon’s purpose.
Knives: One located in the webbing sheath on Sebastian’s chest. It has a spike accentuated hand guard that makes it an effective knuckleduster if the need must in combat. The second is secured in a boot sheath, just in case.

Re: Roots of Darkness -Radical Xenos Inquisitor RPG Recruitment

I hope this is alright, more to come soon.

    Name: James Joseph Jones
    Gender: Male
    Age: 37
    Role/Rank: Mercenary
    Affiliation: Contractor
    Height: 6'2"
    Weight: 85kg

    Appearance:
Generally the tallest amongst most groups, James possesses dashing good looks and a strong, solid physique. He has an eponymous dirty blonde surfers hairstyle, ivy green eyes, well defined chiselled features and a slightly tanned complexion. James often wears a 5 'o' clock shadow and finds himself having to shave frequently much to his distaste. Generally he prefers to wear simple combat boots, comfortable camo green track pants, a light green, long sleeved singlet and a weathered brown leather collared jacket which wraps tightly around his upper chest.

    Personality:
James is a cynical, but cunning individual whose beginning to feel on the wrong age of 30. It isn't unusual for him to have small outbursts of sarcasm, yet despite his often crude remarks, he's a smart, adaptable and well cultured, quick thinker, with only some morally questionable values. James possesses a quirky taste for apples bordering on obsessive, causing him to carry a bag of fruits with him almost where ever he goes, which is curious given James' nature for having more concern over his own well being over others, one would have thought he would have dealt with the bad habit a long time ago. Whilst generally warm and well receiving, he can be surprisingly cold and calculated at times, though this is something he only keeps to himself, especially when it comes to matters concerning his health. Being something of a conman he isn't afraid of playing things up either. James is an accomplished trickster and illusionist, especially when it comes to card tricks, James seems to have a knack for disorientating the human mind.

    Wargear:
Bull pup Auto-Pistol - A small, black, compact, easily hidden weapon capable for firing 15 rounds. It seems James has used this weapon for quite a while now, or at least trained with it extensively as the pistol is as much an extension of his body as it is a weapon. Whilst not exactly a sharp shooter, James is extremely familiar with this pistol and its inner workings.

The Light Hex - An arcane piece of technology James either killed for, stole, or bought (unlikely), it is capable of making a room or small area pitch black, much like a cave, by absorbing all the light in a given area. It seems to be a gadget James only uses in dire circumstances. It is a small handheld cube like object with irregular square faces protruding from its surface.

Combat Knife - Much like he is with the pistol, James is highly proficient with a blade, probably more so than he is at shooting. A relatively small, unassuming dagger with a curiously large black hilt, with the hit of a button the blade retracts and appears out of the bottom of the hilt. Out of his entire reportour of weapons, it is his knife that James values most highly as it has saved his life more times than he can count.

Triplex Phall Pattern Long-Las - It has three power settings and uses more energy than the single setting Mars Pattern. the Triplex Phall pattern is a high powered, slightly more innaccurate single shot sniper variation of its counter-part lasgun. Its casing is dubbed in maroon red with an imperial eagle engraved into its stainless steel stock. It possesses a comically large scope with contrasting green lenses as well as an adjustable strap.

Apples - Kept inside a nap sack generally wrapped tightly around his body.

Flack Vest - A simple matte black vest which protects the body.

Armored Wrist guards - Decorated wrist guards with retractable blades, James is able to use them both offensively and defensively.

    Deck of Cards

    Sun Glasses
    Thermal/Night Vision Goggles

Death Pills - In the event James is ever captured or faced with a hard decision, he always makes sure to keep a pair of edible pills on himself. A quick, painless, almost insant method of death.

    Background:
James doesn't exactly remember where his origins lie, or at least, that’s what he says. Of the few snippets James has leaked on occasion it can be understood that he grew up well supported in a wealthy family, most likely in a hive city someplace. It’s uncertain why then he left a life of relative comfort to pursue a life of what many perceive to be extremely hazardous, so it’s likely that he simply had no choice but to leave. When James found himself cast out from the comfortable life he'd grown accustomed to and thrust into a world he understood very little about he was initially lost. Having to suddenly fend for himself led to James learning some often very harsh life lessons. In order to cope with his new lifestyle its likely James began developing his criminal skills on the outset. Whatever he needed he stole, begged or conned for. James began travelling at an early age, often sneaking onto ships to escape the local authorities; he never stayed in one location for too long.

How exactly James got into the business of killing for money is unknown. He seemed to possess a knack for infiltrating and understating the various different groups of society, which in turn enable him to reach his targets with minimal attention being drawn to himself, which many of his employers put to good use. By the time he'd grown up and formed a clearer understanding of himself he began hiring out his services more strategically. By this time he was well developed culturally, having travelled and experienced hundreds of different cultures and people, you could say it was a hobby of his, discovering new societies. Throughout his travels James has had to defend, steal and fight to make a living, often leading him to be cautious when around others.

For all his flaws, James is by no means evil. He appears to have an adamant distaste for all things chaos, and is just as wary when keeping in the company of xenoes. However it seems that in recent years he seems to have become increasingly frustrated with his life. He’s not entirely certain why he joined the Inquisitor himself, whether its for the experience, the thrill or some overwhelming drive to contribute to a greater good, James is hoping to learn those answers as he goes.

Re: Roots of Darkness -Radical Xenos Inquisitor RPG Recruitment

    Another Combat specialist:

    Name: Damyn Kazic

    Gender: Male

    Rank: Inquisitorial Storm Trooper

    Age: 37

Homeworld: Raised on a Schola Progenium space station orbitting Mordian.

    Psyker/Blank/Neither: Neither

    Wargear:

Fully sealed carapace armour with rebreather. Standard issue for an Inquisitorial Storm Trooper, Damyn's field gear consists of a pressure suit beneath sturdy carapace armour. Along with providing adequate protection against small arms fire this matte grey suit allows Damyn to survive attacks from gas and other chemical agents as well as making high altitude grav chute drops and short-term exposure to the void possible. The suit has been insulated and chemically treated to reduce his heat signature and to provide protection against adverse weather conditions. The rebreather mask incorporates a microbead and infra-red night sight.

Acheron IV pattern Hellgun. A lightweight hellgun model, this weapon provides the power and accuracy associated with the hellgun without forcing the operator to wear a bulky backpack to provide power to the weapon.

Mars pattern Auto pistol. A reliable sidearm. Damyn has modified this weapon to incorporate laser sights, allowing for increased accuracy in low light conditions.

    Frag and Krak grenades

Combat knife. This weapon has been blackened and its broad blade and serrated edge make it as useful as a makeshift tool as it is a weapon.

Equipment: Bio scanner, personal data-slate, civilian clothing.

Appearance: Quite tall at 6'1”, he is of an athletic build. He wears his hair in a tight standard crew cut, his face is hard, severe and sculpted and his eyes are wickedly sharp and almost black in colour.

Personality: Damyn is tough and uncompromising in all aspects of his life. He is little more than a Progenium created robot in many ways; he rises at the break of dawn each morning, washes and ensures that his equipment, clothing and quarters are in immaculate condition. His upbringing and career have made him obsessed with cleanliness and order. He never smiles and will rarely speak unless spoken to. Damyn has unbreakable faith in the chain of command and is unflinchingly loyal to his superiors; carrying out any order, no matter how trivial or menial (or bloody, for that matter) with almost brutal precision and efficiency. He cares little for companionship of any kind though he does respect professionalism and skill at arms.

Background: Raised from infancy on a Schola Progenium station orbitting the hive world of Mordian, there is little to be said about Damyn Kazic's early life. His mother died in childbirth and his father, a high-ranking Imperial Guard officer, met his end with a Commisar's bullet in the back after ordering his troops to withdraw from what he deemed to be a hopeless situation – a fact that disgusts Damyn to this day and which he was reminded of by his instructors at every opportunity in his youth. Although his father died a coward it was his otherwise exemplary military record that saw his son placed in the Schola.

Damyn strove for perfection in all aspects of his training, as if seeking to make up for his father's failings. He excelled in all forms of combat – from unarmed martial arts to longe range marksmanship. His fiery zeal and determination combined with his physical prowess saw him – ironically enough – put forward for training as a Commisar though it was later discovered that he sorely lacked the leadership and speaking skills necessary to fulfil such a role. He was instead placed in a Storm Trooper regiment.

When rebellion broke out on Omega Sanctus in Segmentum Pacificus Damyn and his company were attached to a crusade fleet sent to pacify the planet with the aim of eliminating high priority targets and personnel. It was in this warzone that he came to the attention of the Inquisition.

Damyn's unit was sequestered by an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor and sent to assassinate the planetary Governor and leader of the rebellion Tobias Vornus. It emerged that the Governor was in fact playing host to a warp creature. As the engagement came to a close Damyn was the only member of his elite team that wasn't either dead or a soon-to-be-dead gibbering mess on the floor. He was fortunate in the fact that the Inquisitor who had lead the mission was a reasonably stable individual and after many weeks of rigorous trials of purity (Damyn still bears marks from many of them) he was sent on his way to Nemesis Tessera where he was inducted into the ranks of the Inquisitorial Storm Troopers. Damyn knows he was lucky, damn lucky and in some ways he feels the Inquisitor was wrong for not simply executing him on the spot.

    Hope this is ok.
