    Talabecland - an Empire Log

I've finally taken the plunge and started my 8th edition army. I've been planning this army for a couple months now, but I've just recently actually started getting some models together. As the title suggests, I'm doing Talabeclanders. Their paint scheme is really appealing to me. It's got so much bravado! I managed to acquire a huge lot of Empire miniatures from a friend for very cheap. Unfortunately, they were mostly pre-assembled, so I'm mainly using them to play games with the army while I slowly replace each unit with models of my own. I really want to finish this army -my last fully painted army was in 6th edition, the shame!- however my plans are pretty grandiose, so don't expect this log to go much faster than a snail's pace. Anyways, without further adieu, here are some pictures of my first painted miniatures!

OK, so maybe I didn't paint them, and maybe they are revolting in their awfulness; so sue me. They're now basting in simple green, awaiting the moment to march forth and prepare for great project of making with file mold lines off doing! In the mean time, here's a slightly more serious picture: some early WIPs of my pistolier unit. Try to contain your excitement.

I haven't painted horses in ages, so I anticipate them being a bit of a challenge. That's it for now. Progress pics in the definite medium to slightly removed future.

I tried to contain my excitement, but I ended up quivering in anticipation anyway.

Anybody painting Empire has me excited, so I didn't even try. Would have failed anyway, the second Pistolier from the right looks just way too wicked.

Btw, what's the creature with the muscular legs in the background?

    Here's a hint

I'll take a picture of him next time I bust out my camera and unveil the mystery.
As far as the Empire goes I made some slight progress this morning but even a couple hours of work doesn't look like much when you're filling gaps and filing mold lines...

Oh okay, Vermin Lord would have been my first guess. But I wasn't sure if it's intended for Warhammer.
    The base sure looks nice!

Re: Talabecland - an Empire Log

I lied and forgot to take pictures of the mystery monster, however I have something a little more topical so I think you'll forgive me. We all know Empire is about the artillery, so here are the cannons. The first picture shows a size comparison with the stock (middle) cannon that comes in the box. The ones on either side are both modified; one to be somewhat larger in the wheel department, and the other one to be smaller overall.

Picture two is the big and little cannons beside each other, just for giggles.

and of course, with the crew...

The crew for the smaller cannon are going to have to wait till a later date. Enjoy!

Steam Tank. And they do indeed look nice on cannons.

Thanks everyone. The wheels are indeed stolen from the steam cannon!

@ Kaos: It's Aves Apoxy sculpt. Another two part putty. Very malleable and also quite cheap.

Re: Talabecland - an Empire Log

All right, I've been extremely busy with work recently, but I managed to use yesterday and today to get a little project done for my Empire. I've had a huge boner for bright wizards since I got interested in empire. They just look awesome; not at all like the pushover puds that most wizards appear to be. That said, I took a look at all my favorite bright wizard artwork and came up with this guy. The pose is meant to look like he's gathering power or just sitting waiting for the next opponent to bitch slap. I'll probably paint him with glowing hands to hammer the point home. He's not huge size-wise, but this fella has a ton of work put in to him. Your challenge is to identify the multitude of bits that make up the whole. 1 Cool Point per bit, and if you can tell me where his right arm is from you get 5 points (hint: its a mix of two different arms).

Also, I mentioned before that I was slowly replacing the models I bought off a friend at my local game store. I thought it might be fun to take a picture of my new wizard next to 'Joe Pud straight from the box'.

Bright Wizard is hot. My best guess at parts is:

    Legs & Collar: Empire Wizard
    Body: Ungor
    Head: MicroArt Studio Barbarian Head
    Left Arm: Empire militia
    Right Arm: Flagellant (?)
Left & Right hand: Corpse Cart (pile of corpses)
Keys: Bretonnia Peasant Command Sprue (Sword with Keys)
