M: one thousand painted 40k minis.

I recently reached a hobby milestone after about ten years of collecting: one thousand painted 40k models. Some of the early ones aren't painted terribly well (and some of the later ones too!) but I don't care. I painted a chaplain to celebrate.

edit: for info, you can find my current painting log here:
    http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/177587/1/
includes forces of the imperium, eldar, marines, daemons, tyranids, orks and Fabius Bile's New Men.

    and my old logs here:
    http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84427
includes Tau pt.1, tyranids, marines and necrons
    and here:

    includes Tau pt.2

Re: M: one thousand painted 40k minis.

My first 3rd edition army, the Children of Lycaon. I haven't touched this since the 4th edition dex except to add some of the cool new plastic possessed.

The daemons that are supposed to go with the chaos marines.

    Fabius Bile's New Men.

My 3rd ed. necron raiding force (plus the nice Nightbringer model). I'm looking forward to revisiting this once GW releases some more models and expanding it into a really serious army.

My ocean-world SM army. Originally conceived as a drop-podding force in 3rd, they turned into a bit of a gunline when 4th required a drop pod model without one being released. Now the model exists, and the force has expanded to include about half the 5th company of the Scions of Charybdis, led by the masters of the chapter and supported by elements of the 1st and 10th.

The tyranids army I started in 4th and expanded tremendously with the apoc sets, then again in 5th. Some of these models are no longer strictly game legal.

Re: M: one thousand painted 40k minis.

    My winter-world Tau

Forces of the Imperium. Including my IG that I bought when the 4th ed codex came out and painted when the 5th ed codex came out, my SOBs that took even longer to do, and random crusading marines and other Imperial agents.

    Vostroyan allies

    Eldar

    Orks

    Grey Knights

Now, I know I'm not the craziest person here. Who's painted more minis than me?

could you post a upclose pic of your necrons?specifically the lord and immortals, they look like very interesting conversions.

Now that is commitment! I dont think it matters how well or badly models are painted, to stick with it and paint that many... Well, kudos to you!

Congratulations on keeping them all on more than anything.

Any of us in the hobby for more than a decade or so can say we've painted over 1000 models. I certainly have. I've just sold them to buy the next batch.

Re: M: one thousand painted 40k minis.

I don't think I could face selling them after all the hard work. I've seen what tabletop-standard models go for on ebay (indeed, I've bought plenty of them). They are starting to take up a lot of space though.

Cheers eltanko! Setha: here is the pic. This is an old project from back when my ideas were bigger than my skills to an even greater degree than today. But it might inspire someone to do a better job of the same concept.

As someone with a lot of grey plastic to get through, this is really inspiring.

Of course, I hate you for it, but that's life

Really like the Necrons, CSM, Daemons and New Men in particular.

    Thats some commitment!
It is a shame how a new edition or an older codex can drastically change how an army is played.

    Commitment. Addiction. Semantics....
To master any skill you must accept doing it poorly at first.

That my friend, is A LOT OF MINIS!!!

I wonder what army you would use
Vanilla, BA, DA, BT, SW, GK, SoB...How many stupid factions are there???

The codex creep is killing all armies...

Please excuse my random spacing errors, my spacebar is messed up and sometimes does not respond when i press it.

Well done for putting in the time, patience, effort and attention to all of those models.

You should be exceptionally proud of everything you've done, its an impressive quantity!

Re: M: one thousand painted 40k minis.

Usually when I see masses of models they're highly inconsistent and of very low quality, but this is amazing. Highly congruent armies, great styles and an exceptional standard. Bravo!

Thanks to Earthbeard, Insan0, Vex, B4z, Tokamak and Magos Explorator for checking in and taking time to comment, also,

I'm glad, that was part of the reason for posting it all in one thread (and to make you hate me ). A few years ago most of what I owned was unpainted or unfinished.

The New Men are rather expensive (at least by my standards) which is why there are only ten of them so far. The torsos are FW renegade torsos, and the legs are DA legs with the midriff sawn through and filled with greenstuff. The arms are SM scout arms (some taken from the landspeeder storm crew, because I equipped my storm crew with sniper rifles instead). The proportions are rather different than a basic GW marine so marine arms don't look right. You can read more about them in my current ammobunker log starting here

The nids are my biggest army and the one that never seems to be finished, and I tend to play them when I actually get around to playing. You'll notice that I don't really like tanks, I much prefer painting infantry, walkers and other models with legs that I can actually pose and look in the eye. Nids have six legs each so they are clearly the best!

Re: M: one thousand painted 40k minis.

    Congratulations (I think )

Looking back over my painting 'career' (through all systems) I probably hit more than 1000 models...

    3000pts Empire
    2500pts Wood Elves
    2000 pts Dark Eldar
    2000 pts Tau
    2000 pts Necrons
    2500 pts Orks
    500 pts Undead
    3 Blood bowl teams
    3000pts epic Orks
    3000pts epic Marines

Although unfortunately I only currently own the Wood Elves

I'm aware that possessing this many mins may be somewhere in the DSM IV... but I won't sell them unless in really dire straits. Do you at least still have photos?

That is one impressive collection. And they all look really good.

I'd like some close ups of the ocean SM cuz the paint looks cool but its hard to see from that distance.
