    Miniature Painting Month

Or otherwise known to myself as MiPaMo.

It is basically going to consist of me painting up most of my model collection in the next month. Luckily that only include about 30 models or so.
I have had then for just over 2 years and they are still most just plain old metal and plastic with a stitch of clothing on (ie. paint)

So when a family member mentioned they were gonna be taking part in NaNoWriMo I thought I should brak out the old paints and newly bought brushes and try something similar with my miniatures - hence the name.

So as today is the first day I have - surprisingly for me - finished my first 2 models. 2 Empire militia that are going towards my mordheim gang 'Stirland River Patrol'.

Now I haven't painted in over 2 years and back then it had only my 1st foray into painting and the outcome was some badly painted space marines.
So as well as 'clothing' the models I hope to improve on my painting skills in this intensive period of modeling.

I should if all goes well have something to post everyday; this 1st week being my 10 man stirland patrol.

    Well on to photos then

Great start! Can't say I see many mistakes. Perhaps the white could be a bit cleaner and then washed with Devlan Mud to create a more cloth-like effect. Aside from that, I love the start of your log. Nice basing!

Yeah the white was the main thing I didn't like. Come out so wrong mainly because I started with a black undercoat (which was done bout 2 yrs ago).

Thanks for the encouragement, I'm gonna need it to be able to pull this thing off...

Okay, here's what you should do next time you want to paint white on a black undercoat.

Buy Dheneb Stone, which is a Foundation Paint, and therefore gets a smooth even finish in one try. Then paint Skull White over that, and you should probably finish with a Gyphonne Sepia or Devlan Mud finish like I already mentioned for some shading.

    Good luck!

They look good considering how long you have been painting, white is however a hard color to get exactly right, the best method I have found so far is:

    1: base coat Astronomican grey
2: paint over with a heavily watered down Shadow grey
3: paint all raised areas Astronomican grey
4: highlightt by mixing skull white with the Astro grey
5: continue stage 5 by adding a small amount of skull whire each time.

The reason for using the Shadow grey as a wash is that it helps such you all the raised areas and thus make it easier to paint

The green you could try a blue wash over it and I would suggest trying a ogryn flesh was over the skin, If you don't have devlun mud get it, I think its the wash I use the most. I use it for bone, metal, leather.

Participants in NaNoWriMo try to put out a whole novel. I think the equivalent challenge would be to do a 2000pt tournament legal army in a month. I couldn't do it to any standard that I'd be willing to put on the table, but it would be a cool challenge.
