What? Wow. That's depressing. To me, he was the driving spirit behind so much of the style and humor of the GW games.
Dude... I need sources. I simply refuse to believe it.
Although if it is true then spiritually I feel that GW has lost a great asset.
Self confessed fanboy of ponsy armies. High Elves, Bretonnians, Eldar, etc.
Harry confirmed it. But wow, this sucks.
I wasn't thrilled about the story they had planned for warforge, but at least it was something new and interesting. Really wanted to see where the project would go. My understanding is that Rick was really excited about it. Now, I'm not sure I care anymore.
Seems like the jerks running GW just led Rick on until he got his pet project started and announced and then fired him, so the can steal his idea/creation. Honestly **** GW for pull such a ************ move. I don't really care about how the project turns out now.
Whatever Rick decides to do now, I hope its far more successful than GW.
My goal for the year is to get another 100 models painted.
So far I haven't touched a brush.
Maybe he just wants to concentrate on historicals.
Not much left of the old guard at GW these days.
Is your gaming club in Gosport or Portsmouth looking for an experienced new member with an interest in historicals but willing to play pretty much anything? If so drop me a PM.

Death Guard Plog
Based on the conversations Rick had at Games Day he was all set to run Warhammer Forge for several years. He had all sorts of ideas for new models and stories. That doesn't sound like someone who's planning on leaving a couple of weeks later.
As for the GW conspiracy, it wouldn't be the first time GW pulled a similar stunt.

Another nail in GW's coffin in my opinion. GW is heading for a car crash. Its sad to see Rick go and alarming considering the nature of his contributions to GW's games but perhaps he is better jumping that ship before it sinks. Good luck to him.
That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die.
*wonders if he's simply off doing other things day-to-day, or if he's bailed entirely (sold his stock/etc)...*

Seriously? I have a letter from the man himself when I sent in some rules for 40k when I was a kid. He took the time to reply to it personally and forever won my respect because of that.
Damn, I'm a bit taken back by that.
Meh, these things happen.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.
Why don't we wait for a) official confirmation and b) the full story before we throw a hissy fit at GW? For all we know it could be family reasons, health, or god knows what. Or it could be a stupid move by GW, we just don't know.
And before anyone accuses me of being a GW fangirl and apologist and whatnot, if Mr Priestley is leaving it will be a big blow to GW, not a fatal blow because the ******** about GW being in trouble is precisely that, ********. But he is an excellent writer and games designer.

It's just the way stuff's being handled in this section I'm afraid.
Anyway, on topic....hmm...that's kind of sad indeed. I mean, he basically co-invented everything. [wild speculation] I think that he may have become bored with current GW core games and the complete abandoning of minor systems and focusses on historicals[/wild speculation]. It's not like he was massively involved into the development of current products but he built a hell of a foundation for everything we have today.
He hasn't written anything about it on http://rickpriestley.com/ yet, what I can see.

I think regardless of the reasoning behind it it is a real loss to us old veterans of GW games but won't really make much difference to GW in general I shouldn't think.
Rick was one of the original original band of hippy members of GW/Citadel starting up with Brian Ansell and his wife diane along with John Stallard and Richard Halliwell (of space hulk fame) amongst others.
He pushed for six years to get his game rogue trader made and wrote two editions of 40k and five editions of warhammer.
Bloke is a true wargaming legend, even though he seems to have taken a back seat in recent years it's real shame he's left regardless of the circumstances.
Sighs, they are all gone, except for Jervis with his monthlybrainwashingstandard bearer article and John Blanche.
If you ever read this Mr Priestly, thank you for giving us the 40K universe to play in. You gave me many countless hours of fun while growing up while playing your games and reading your articles in White Dwarf. I wish you the best in whatever you do with your life now. May your successes outnumber your failures.

I'm going to say thanks for the memories Rick, For what ever reason he left, was asked to go, this is sad.
I hope Mantic picks him up, he would fit right in.
