Which greens are you using for the edging? Goblin, Scorpion?
Which greens are you using for the edging? Goblin, Scorpion?
I start with a pretty rough highlight of Darkangels Green, followed by a wash of Thraka Green, to soften the contrast. Then I highlight the edges with scorpion green, followed by a last extreme highlight of 1:1:1 Scorpion Green, Sunburst Yellow and Skull White.
If you want to I can do a small tutorial.

I like the conversion a lot, simple but very effective. The highlighting on the wings is a bit overdone however, the angular shapes make them look heavy and rigid which is bad for something like wings. I think less is more on that area of the model, I made a quick change in ms paint to show what I mean:

I thought that too, but with heavy highlighting, it looks like Ghostplate armour covering the tops of the wings.
@Mudkip and Foxtale: Hm, I get your point, I'll try the next one with less highlighting and decide which version looks better.
Minor update on the Wings.....really minor, just so that you get the idea.
Any comments?
cheers

Absolutely, HisBrettness, a small tutorial would be awesome! I really, really love this colour scheme, and would kind of maybe like to do my own take on it. The greens are perfect, and the purple contrast colour you use goes really well with it.
So, if you could do a small tutorial, and provide a paint colour list of what you use, that would be awesome. Great looking stuff!
Gloomwhisker
Hmmmm, I'm not sold on the white angel wings. The codex really implies raven style wings, and white just doesn't seem to fit Commoragh. But who knows. Maybe from the front it looks really good, or when they're in a unit. I just woulda done them black with a raven-iridescent blue/green highlight.
Don't get me wrong though. The paint job is amazing!
Like those scourges, but probably kinda expensive to get all those wings separate!
You know it's a bit boring seeing such static wings, I'm fairly confident the new scourges will have very dynamic posses like the wyches or any of the new models.
You forgot the little tubes of stimulants and drugs, etc...check out the only scourge artwork we have, you'll see what I'm talking about.
I would use some green stuff on the gun as well to make it into a proper splinter carabine.
Paintjob is going good so far thoughn, though I do think some brighter highlights would make it even better. I've seen very few use very bright highlights so far, which were exactly the main reason why the new paintjobs look so good on the new models.

Nice take on the scourges. I might just try something similar, as I have 5 pairs of wing from the sanguinary guard left...
the color scheme is also nice.
I'll be following this

Finished my first Scourge today!.....wohooooo^^
Any thoughts?? I'm not sure on the purple loincloth-thingy.
thanks for all the comments
@Gloomwhisker: I'll start the Tutorial with the next Scourge.
@darkgrin: Yeah...I was lucky. Someone from my local GW-Store bought the Sanguine Guard but used them for Calgars Honor-Guard, so I got the wings :P.
@Kharandhil: I know that the Scourges from the artwork look far more complex than mine^^....And of course the Models GW will release will be better than mine...but still, I just wanted to do some quick conversions.

I wouldn't worry about not being exactly true to the artwork, after all this is YOUR interpretation of GW's idea - personally I like your sleek green and purple look.![]()
Very impressed with your Scourages and the paint scheme. I my have to "borrow" your conversion idea though for a display unit![]()

I might convert my own Scourges, but then it wouldn't be as awesome as this, and if (when) the official models come out, I'd buy them. Damnit.
I like the look of the Sang' Guard wings. I think they fit the look of the DE.
hey folks!
Thanks for all the replies, I started to paint another Scourge and came up with this short step by step tutorial, how I do the green highlighting
First step: roughly highlight the armour with Dark Angels Green. Although you wont see much of it when the armour is done, this step is quite important, to soften the contrast.

Second step: apply a wash of Thraka Green to soften the contrast between the Dark Angels Green and the black. This step also gives the black some kind of greenish shimmer

Third step: highlight the edges with Scorpion Green, take care to dilute the colour with water and try to make those highlightes as thin as possible.

Fourth step: now highlight the most extreme edges with a mixture of 1:1:1 Scorpion Green, Sunburst Yellow and Skull White and try to make them even thinner than the last highlights.
A list of colours and a tutorial of how I did the other stuff will follow.
So...I hope this'll help or inspire or something^^.
Sorry for the multiple posts, but I couldnt figure out how to integrate the pictures into the post :P
Cheers,
