Thread: The brand new sculpt log

Lovely work Rikard. The torso does look a bit slim compared to the legs but I'm sure once the detail and arms are on they will balance out.

Thank you, I'm making a few changes at the moment (her pony tail doesn't match up with her loin cloth so that needs a bit of work).

I'm rather stuck at the moment as to what I should give her (weapon wise) or how I should position her arms.

    Any ideas anyone?

@Hairy Norseman, Thanks man, I'll keep that in mind as I sculpt the rest of this so I don't go too over the top.

What are you stuck on? I'll do my best to help if I can.

Also, what weapon options should I give her? At the moment I'm thinking either triskele and executioner
or mirror swords, all opinions welcome.

Re: The brand new sculpt log

I'll go with Executioner, mirror swords look nifty but I'm philosophically opposed to two swords being used at once on practical grounds.

Boy am I excited about this....
I would go with the triskele, because its a bit more original, and exotic.

You say youre really going to push yourself on this one? I guess that means itll never be cast? I imagine the style and detail wont lend themselves to casting. Shame.

I try to push myself on each new piece, both in terms of new techniques and being more fussy with certain looks.

If I were to cast this the details would definitely hold up in resin, probably in metal too. However it will not be cast as doing so would be illegal.

I'm going to try a combination of triskele and executioner, technically illegal in game terms but one could always count as something else.

I just hope when she's finished and I use her, she doesn't die on turn one.

    Cool beans.

Im sure you could cast it legally, i mean you sculpted it in the first place. now selling it as a banshee (and frankly as anything else; its intent is so clear) would be illegal, which i suppose as far as im concerned would be as good as the same thing.

Looking forward to seeing the next stage regardless

First of all, I like what you're doing. Your stuff looks quite impressive.

What I would like to know though is, how green stuff is best altered after it's cured.
Or do you only work it while it's still drying/curing?

I tried scraping it with a scalpel like I would plastic or metal, but it looks like that would rip off chunks rather than smoothing the surface.
I haven't tried sanding it, but I suspect that would make it look a little grainy.

    Any ideas?

Well for starters I try to avoid scrapping altogether, although GS will hold up ok if you do it. You just need to go slowly and gently so you only take off small flakes at a time, in addition I would recommend using a fresh and sharp scalpel blade to minimize any major drag, discolouration and scratch marks on the GS.

Avoid sanding altogether as it is more likely to cause damage rather than a smooth finish.

GS is best left once it's cured as the harder it gets, the more difficult it is to alter a mistake you might have made.

    Any time.

A small update on the Banshee, thinking of proxying her as Jain Zar (assuming I ever get round to completing and painting and Eldar army ).

I've altered the angle on a couple of the photos to try and give a better idea of waist thickness and the flow of the hair in comparisson with the loin cloth.

She looks lovely, the proportions of the waist do look much better in the second picture.

jeez mate! I hope you make some out of these sculpts. If not you definitely SHOULD! These are marvelous!! I love the pariah!

    PS

How much would it cost to get one? I got a Necron friend and it could be a great present for his b'day!

    Thank you

I should have some more work to show over the next few days (will try to take better pics) when the executioner and Triskele is finished.

    A different update.

I have some other news too from Troll forged. There's more photos and from different angles on the Troll forged main site.

The Dwarf and the Lizardman I sculpted are now both available from Troll forged miniatures.

do you make those sculpts for fun or do you actually sell any of your creations?

Do you mean commissions or casts of sculpts?

Anything which is IP or artwork protected (like the howling banshee) does not get cast, to do so is illegal.

Anything else I tend to cast at Troll forged miniatures.

    I rarely do commission pieces.

Well help wise it'd be great if you showed a little of how you ind of built up Armour detail, and as for weapon load-out, how about mirror swords but held backwards?
