Precinct Omega paints... 40mm Knights Templar (Manorhouse Games)

Inspired by the latest competition in the Irregular Magazine, I'm finally turning my attention to a set of 40mm Knights Templar I picked up from Manorhouse Games a while back. These minis are produced to support their in-house "Mindstalkers" skirmish game, but are historically pretty accurate.

So here's the first of the squad, who is technically "Goffredo di Vitry, Templar Magister of the Order of Shadow Templars" but we all know he's really Jacques de Molay, Grand Master of the Knights Templar:

I've nearly finished the Grand Master, and have started work on the weathering and extra detail:

And, as I was painting the Grand Master, I thought I'd get cracking on the other models from this faction that I have sitting in my "To Do" box. So here's one of the Templar Brethren, with a crossbow:

I've been inspired by the Grand Master to get cracking with even more of the Manorhouse models I've had sitting around for several months. Here's the knight WIP:

    Arise my pretty!

A little something new from Manorhouse Games:

I love these Templar models. I'm going to try to finish that mounted knight over the next couple of days, as he's been languishing on my desk for months!

Wow. those are really nice models, with excellent paint jobs as usual PO =o]. I especially like the mounted knight. Keep up the good work. It's been rather nice watching you do these other painting projects not just GW and friends models.

Keep up the good work and please keep taking these pic's.

These ones are for my private collection, so progress is typically slow. But yes, one of my great pleasures in life is seeking out and painting good minis from smaller, boutique manufacturers. I long to get my hands on some Manorhouse terrain, as it's unspeakably beautiful. Sadly, it's also frighteningly expensive...

I do LIKE the models very much.....details, good painting as well. I would/will enjoy more WIP photos.

Enjoy the minies. Have you considered trying a skirmish or two?

Fair enough. I'll post some WIP shots later today, then.

These miniatures are designed for the "Mindstalkers" historical/fantasy skirmish game from Manorhouse. I do plan on giving it a go once I've finished both of my warbands (I've got a bunch of Venetian mercenaries to paint as well as the Templars) and, of course, I use them in my self-published skirmish miniatures game, Skrapyard. But if you know of any other good, medieval-themed skirmish miniatures games, do let me know.

Given the request for some WIP shots:

Here's that mounted knight, again. I had to go back and re-do a lot of his caparison as, having languished, forgotten, on my desk for many months, he had become speckled with paint water droplets and, in at least one place, a blob of Army Painter QuickShade!

And here's something new; a Templar hero:

One of the things I love about these minis is how incredibly over-armed they are. The Knight has his mace, a sword on his back and another sword on his belt as well as a dagger. The guy with the two-handed sword (for which he doesn't bother with a scabbard, which is awesome), also has another sword and a dagger. These guys really don't want to get caught in a fight without a pointy thing.

Wonderfully clear painting, and I concur on them being absurdly over-armed. However, it fits with the warlike character of the Templars, and is not out of place.

Could you, for a laugh, do a 40mm version of Altair, to go with these gentlemen?

Man, I'd love a 40mm Altair! I might suggest it to Lorenzo. The range already has a number of "assassin" types but, frankly, the sculpts are... not up to par.

@FabricatorGeneralMike - I'll take some pics today. I've sort of finished a couple (a bit of a rush job), but they've taken some damage in play and in the carry case (they have long pikes, which are a pain in the neck to fit in a standard carry case!) and need touching up, and I've just started a couple of others.

    Here you go:

This is two versions of the same miniature. The one on the left has a warhammer, in case you're wondering.

These guys are the other three mercenaries, in the company's livery: two pikemen and a halberdier. They were sort of finished for an event, but only very roughly, so I'm going to give them another look-over and raise the quality.

Wow. those have move waves then a california coast line I see what you mean about transporting them, PITA.

Would you be able to do something like clip off the end spikes and save them while cutting off the shafts and using brass rod so the pike shafts are straight?

Nice figgies, we shure are spoiled for choices these days, what a great time =o]

That's actually very tempting. Their hands are very small, so I'll have to look and see if they would take the drill, but I might well do that very thing.

Oh, those look like the same sized hands as the empire spearmen.

If they are, they'll take a drill just fine. I really like the first figure, nice job.

Actually, there's not much similarity with INQ minis, which were mostly sculpted with outsized hands. In any case, despite the larger scale, Manorhouse sculpts to realistic proportions, so both heads and hands are quite close in scale to GW minis (I recently thought to convert a 40mm mini with a GW pistol holster, only to find that it was far too large!).

Re: Precinct Omega paints... 40mm Knights Templar (Manorhouse Games)

Got some more work done on these:

This hero is basically finished (I haven't added static grass to the base, yet, but I like to do that job in big batches).

This mercenary went together really quickly.

As suggested above, I removed the horrible, awkward, bendy pike hafts and replaced them with stiffer, thicker, shorter hafts. Drilling through the hands was actually really tricky, but it worked eventually and now the spears won't bend and are much easier to pack away between games. Just got to finish painting them, now!
