Thread: Angelic Host - the flip side of Daemons

Re: Angelic Host - the flip side of Daemons

Glad I could be of help pointing that out about the arms.

Some thoughts. You said you are somewhat troubled by them looking vaguely high elf, namely the ones that are suppose to be bloodletters as they don't look strong enough. One thing to consider is trying to get the shoulder pads from the 40k Kroot box. They are not overly big and should easily fit on your models and not get in the way of the wings to much. I tried them on some high elves when I was trying to make my own swordmasters so I know they fit.

Not the best picture I have of them but it shows the three first ones I worked on.

Another idea is to extend the hilt's handle further, so that the blade looks like it might be a one and half hander or a two hander. If you look at Bloodletters they actually don't look that strong, part of it is just how big their swords look.

As for coloring, I would perhaps have the main two colors be Red and White with gold or bronze trimming. I can understand not going the black route, but at least with the red and white tone you get a more warlike feel, that these are not the sort you try to appease with sweet words.

One thought on the flamers, I would try and use High Elf bows rather than ones from the Empire. They look fancier and would look better with golden coloring. Might want to even consider giving them burning eyes or something to further them from the other models or larger fires on their arrows to make it stand out more.

And while you said you already had your idea for your greater daemon at least take a look at this model. I am not 100% certain on the size of it but I am sure you could look at Cool Mini or not or similar sites to try and find a picture of one next to something else for scale.

Overall I think you are progressing nicely.

Cheers for all the points brought up so far. I like the idea of making the flaming swords more hand-and-a-half style like the bloodletters hold. I'm wondering whether to just make them Horrors instead as the Flaming Attacks fit so much better (I'm just a bit worried that this would effect the chances during a game...) When I get a bit more time I'll play around with some potential ideas and post them up for comments

Another quick update with some painted figures this time that I managed to sort out (a 4 month old boy certainly curtails your painting time....)

First up is an Angelim with what I think I'll be going for as a general basing theme:

White and Gold being the main theme with a light colour pastel as a feature colour.

Next up are samples of my Seraphim, with both the conversion and the paint scheme (they count as Daemonettes).

I really liked the idea that EternalVoid brought up of the Statue of Justice idea with the blindfolds and so modelled these two up like that. Colour scheme is the White and Gold that is going to be consistent throughout and I wanted to go for an ecclesiastical/byzantine feel with some rich purple hue. Purple is also a Slaaneshi colour so it kind of fits for Daemonettes. Bases are not complete though.

Any comments will be gratefully received...

    Cheers

this is relevant to my interests. love the concept but can i suggest skipping furies? their not really worth the points. seekers or flesh hounds are better

Nice to see paint already! Just keep going, I always worry about people who start really, really ambitious conversions like this burn out half way through.

If you don't mind going with companies other than GW, there are some rather nice angels in the Ex Illis range. They're 32mm, and look rather good. They do work with WH minis if you want them imposing.

For a large GW model, you could try and find an Ariel on ebay, the Wood Elf Queen, and maybe give her the swan wings from Azazel if you can find them.

For a Greater Daemon, have a try with this one:

Looking awesome, mate. Any chance of a giant golden chariot with flaming wheels?

    Right.

I'm back on this... Very much so...

My Archangel conversion has been staring at me with a 'why-haven't-you-finished-me' look and I'm not sure I can take it anymore.

I've reworked the ideas for my bloodletters and come up with some trial models which seem to be working much better.

Paint is going onto them and also onto some more Angeloi (Furies) and Seraphoi (Daemonettes). Pics of them and of the Archangel conversion will arrive soon.

Watch this space (if you can be bothered)

The theme and colouration is something that works really well for the army. The Heavenly Hosts lends itself well for a daemon army. While Furies are not very efficient gaming-wise, theme-wise they are really important (if you want to have flying troop choices). Kudos.

This is a great idea. I've considered doing WoC as a followers of law army but never even come close to doing it. Can't wait to see how this turns out. Great work!

It's a great idea for an army and the conversions are good too. Plays up the idea that too much order is as bad as too much chaos (Chaos just being a bit more prevalent in the Old World).

What wings did you use for the archers and the Seraphim figures? I've been poking around for decent wings all day with no luck whatsoever...

Also, what bodies did you use for the Seraphim?

    Thanks!

    Very nice concept

What do you think about using baby angels like this in Ludvig Schwarzhelm BSB pack? Maybe as nurglings.
