Thread: Dystopian Wars.

    Re: Dystopian Wars.

FSA are the beginners force of choice - they are apparently the best all rounders with the best starter box.
The Brits are pretty good, I play KOB and Covenant and although I much prefer the Covenant ships the Brits can be fairly hard to beat. They have some excellent torpedo capability which doesn't get reduced by damage. The battleship doesn't dish out the most damage but you give it 2 shield generators and it will take your opponent all night to sink it!! The double shields make it hard as nails, just steam it into the midst of your opponents fleet and let rip.
And.. the energy turrets are proving to be better than expected. A few games in with them now and I think I'm getting there. Using them is forcing me to adopt a very specific style of play but its been fairly effective so far.

I've had my eye on this game for some time even though it isn't played in the game store I frequent, but I may be able to generate sme interest with the Steampunk fans. What has me hesitating is the uncertainy of how the various settings (Land, Sea & Air) mesh together. It seems that the game is pretty much a naval game with the ability to add Airborne units to the battle. Land battles seem possible, but appear to be a minor side show.

On the official forums there are many scenarios that will involve beach landings with all three in the mix

but for most its either a naval or land game with Air Support

Actually, now that the land units have been released, you can play exclusively land based battles, with air support. The land units also play differently from the naval units, so you don't get the feeling of 'naval engagement on land'.

What I'd like to see is a map with rivers running through it. It'd be especially interesting with units like the FSA main landship and the French Battleship, since those units can easily switch from water to land/air.

And, despite some misgivings, I went and bought the rulebook since it seems this took off in my FLGS instead of F:A. About covenant...can anyone actually give me a more detailed playstyle rundown? Are they fast glasscannon? Long range sniper army? How do they play? And if I wanted flyer-focused army instead, FSA or Prussians would be better? I like the zeppelins, not so fond on flying mechs though they;re good I've heard.

Hell yes, I went to my LGS today (it has just moved to a s***** (umm, snazzy? o_O) new location) and they are stocking DW. So I picked myself up a Metzger today and that thing looks gorgeous. Now if only he would stock Infinity.

Edit: Never thought the language filter would bust me over something like that.

I'm trying to get into this,
Spartan do a nice intro set with four factions and the rules/cards for £125
Not bad for a club setup.
My only problem now is getting one, as I'm having shopping cart problems...

Awesome ships! Also thanks for the link, my KoB use a paint scheme very very similar to Nife's one except darker and I was not happy with my job at all. Seeing his ships made me understand how to improve mine.

As soon as my first wave of ships will be finished, I'll buy my second army which also happen to be the EotBS.

Covenant seem to have low Ap but decent shooting.

Flyer focused would be prussians , their zeppelins are insane and they can do a flying army very well.

Thanks for help. And since there wasn't any CoA at my LGS yet, I bought some Pfliferers...Pfliers...krautbaloons to paint. Painted up suprisingly easily and nice, much better details than my F:A models to be honest.

    I love that Zeppelin model.

My FLGS ran out of rulebooks and starter sets, but doesn't seem to be restocking them either? The same thing is true of other Spartan Games products such as Firestrom Armada.

Well thanks to the hard work of the nice people at Spartan, my box of stuff is on the way to me.
I'll have a battlefleet of each of four factions to play with.

    Re: Dystopian Wars.

    Hi all

I am already a Firestorm Armada player, but I'm looking at starting DW too now.

I'm leaning towards the Prussians or Brits and my friend wants to take the Americans. Could you guys please explain to me how these two factions play like?

Also, I wanted to know how similar the rules are between FireStorm and Dystopian wars. From what I've seen in battle reports, there doesn't seem to be that much difference.

As a last question, I'd like to know what you guys think of the quality of the models? I'm asking because I got a lot of bad molds with FS:A models. Spartan as offered replacements, but still, I'm kinda of afraid of getting resin pieces that shrunk to variable degrees and ships missing a good portion of their tips. So far, all I've seen online was great quality, but I just wanted you guy's opinions too.

    Thanks!

When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather. Not screaming like the other people in his car.

Got those old 5th edition lizardmen collecting dust? PM me, I really need more metal skinks with javelins.

    Re: Dystopian Wars.

I haven't come across any bubbles on the surface of models, but there are some under the surface so sometimes if you do a bit of filing or cutting they come through.. Have had one kit that didn't have the right metal parts in it, SG replaced that easily, aside from that everything from the 4 fleets I have bought has been good.

I'm not familiar with Firestorm, but from what I have read the core rules for all SG systems are fairly similar, yes.

    Re: Dystopian Wars.

I got my prussians and my Japanese fleets today.
The other two factions and the rules should be with me in a day or so.
Models look good, minimal flash, no bubbles.
    Looking forward to painting them.
