Spears of Ilios, a SM odyssey...

    Hi guys !
I'm finally back on a SM army, with a DIY chapter named "the Spears of Ilios" (with some Greek and Troy inspiration).

First is brother Patrocle, assault vet painted for an online competition on a french forum :

Then, you have a Myrmidon (vet from 1st Company, in terminator armour) and a novice from 2nd squad of the 10th company :

    And the family pic :

    Hope you'll enjoy them !

I would love to praise you for your insane painting skills, the subtle and utterly genious weathering and chipping or the amazing facial expressions on your minis, (not mentioning your using a Greek background for them) but I'm too busy drooling on my keyboard
Have you ever been so happy that you’re sad?
That the lights turn to stars and the stars become eyes?
And hello’s are goodbyes and the laughs are the sighs?
And the show disappears with the note ‘until next time’

I would love to see an army of these miniatures, on a appropriate display board *drools*

You made of very big progress on bases and on paint, me who tend to stagnate I am impressed.
    It deserves a small vote.

Excuse me, my jaw seems to have disappeared somewhere beneath my desk.... Those are absolutely fantastic mate. Can't wait to see more. And the idea for the background fluff is a great idea too.

Very nice work, great gritty colour scheme and I think the bases complement them well.

I love them! The painting is top notch but what really makes it is the base and the weathering that blends them into the figures! 5/5 for sure!

    Tancrede...

These are truely excellent. Would you mind explaining how you acheive your basing. Is it all done using mig pigments?

Nice mate, very nice. the scheme is great and the weathering is perfect.

How do you find the bases? I'm assuming there is alot of powders involved in them, doesn't it rub off alot?

Not from Mig, but I use pigments.
I do my base as always (sand, litter, cork, small details from GW urban basing kit,...), then I paint it.
Next step causes me some problems, as I add a mix of pigments and water, let it dry, add some tuft and spray matt varnish (for creative art) on the mini.
The problem is that the varnish becomes white on the pigments (as soon as there is much pigments...).
I don't know the reason for the moment. Maybe it was not completely dry, and maybe this varnish as a small reaction with the pigments. In the coming days, I will complete some test to find a good way of basing playable minis with pigments.

I don't know if the pigments will stay long, but I will not play this army every week ! ^^

Here are some of the non GW stuff used on the minis (except the PA "german uniform" green, of course) :
    - matt varnish (spary and brush), microsol (to make the decals fit perfectly on curved surfaces) and the pigments :

    - and some tuft bought last week. On this minis, I used "highland tuft", extrem left of the pic :

Great painting on those Marines, but I expected no less from you! What really blew my mind were the bases, and how you've dusted/dirtied the Marines' armour to fit them. They look AWESOME!

    Mr Tancrede Sir...

You have set a challenge. I will be producing a model and basing it using the Tancrede formula and if you don't mind, ill throw up a piccie and show you how I got on. I genuinely... genuinely love these bases.

I dont want to take away from the paint job, which in itself is delicious... but the bases you have achieved on these models I think are utterly wonderous.
