Considering the Death Guard went exclusively over to Nurgle I would say this is a very bad idea. All the loyalists, sans Garro, were killed at Istvaan. The Death Guard traitor fleet was stuck in the warp en route to terra until Mortarion gave himself and his entire legion over to grandfather Nurgle.

Seeing as the dreads have no ranged weaponry I would suggest Khorne. However, depending on the amount of Berzerkers you have it may look odd having two dreads and only one squad to go with them. Personally, I would do them Death Guard unless you have a sizable amount of Berzerkers to make it look proportionate army wise.

Then again I may have thought entirely too much about this and just do what looks cool. One of each would allow you to have fun with two schemes and will keep the painting interesting for you.

How have I not looked on here before?

Always had an appreciation for the old school, and you've done it justice here. The Khornate renegade models are particularly striking with the red and brass. I try and balance any praise with constructive criticism but I just can't with these models. These models are pretty much spot on. Nicely done.

    With regards,
    Dan.

Thanks again for the replies guys! Unfortunately I've had some pretty serious problems at home that took precedence over painting, but I've been back on it this week... Not much of an update, but here are a couple more old school Berzerkers for your enjoyment!

Up next, I'll be finishing the bases on the first four Berzerkers, and then finally getting some paint on the first Dread! (fyi, I decided to paint them both in World Eaters colours, and use the opportunity to build a World Eaters force to fight alongside my Death Guard!). In the not too distant future, I'll be adding more Berzerkers, Terminators (old school of course) and a very special project: refurbishing a Mk I Land Raider! Exciting times!

Well, despite the woeful lack of interest in my last update... I hereby present you with a finished pic of the first 4 marines in the army! Enjoy!

Painting has now commenced on the first Dread, so pics will follow in the not-too-distant future...

Woeful lack of interest was totally undeserved and probably due to some freak warp anomaly! The Berzerkers look great, and are so full of nostalgia awesomeness that I'd cry if I wasn't too tired. The blood effects look good as well, but you might consider adding some darker spots just to separate them from the armour colour.

    Cheers,

Haha yes I'd like to think that's what caused it! Totally agreed on the blood actually, might have to add an extra layer with a little spot of black ink in there just to make it a little darker and more gruesome, but very pleased on the whole!

Great work but I actually didn’t notice the blood until I saw BeatTheBeat’s comment, darkening it a bit would be a good option.

It’s interesting to see the evolution in their style too.

Don't watch the lack of replies in mid-January, people are running on vapours after xmas Anyways these new additions are nice, I think you could add further highlights on the corners of the armour etc.

Greetings from the warp! I have finally got round to doing a spot of painting, and I present for your enjoyment a WIP pic of my first Dreadnought! The base hasn't been started, and there are a few details that need adding to the Dread, but you can see more or less what he'll be like finished (hopefully in a couple days' time). So without further ado, pics!

Edit 2: Pics finally working! Enjoy...

Those old Berzerkers are simply oozing with style - kudos on the paintjob too!

Looking forward to the Dread as well.

Those berserkers look awesome! Just so... red! One suggestion though: remove the ruins from the dreadnoughts base. It covers too much of the model.

Love the old-school chaos vibe. And seeing it applied to the dread... simply awesome!

Greetings all! Time for a long overdue update... the Dreadnought is finished!! Let me know what you think...

I agree that the ruin is slightly too big and a little obstructive, but it's not as bad IRL, and it's too late to change now

That dreadnought is really sweet! I like it! How did you apply the dip? W a brush?

Cheers! Yep all the dipping is done with a large brush, then followed by a matt varnish and blood effects. More time-consuming than dipping the conventional way I suppose, but gives much nicer results!

The dreadnought turned out wonderful! As you said, the ruin might be a bit too big, but didn't really think about it until you said it so it can't be that bad. Now stop this nostalgia madness before I have to kill my economy by buying old toys on ebay... (no, seriously, don't stop.)

    Greetings all,

Got a little update for you tonight, with a few more to follow soon! No painting this time I'm afraid, but a sneak peek at a Terminator squad I'm working on atm. More old school goodness!

Edit: Check out the guy on the far left, would you believe that's actually a heavy flamer he's carrying? Look how tiny it is! How cute...

    The Cat-Dreadnought = win!
I'm also liking the older Termies as well...brings back fond memories. That heavy flamer always reminded me (a bit) of the original space hulk heavy flamer too.
    Keep up the great work.
