Thread: VN's Vintage Chaos Emporium (a blog of sorts...)

Re: VN's Vintage Chaos Emporium (a blog of sorts...)

    Greetings all,

Just a very brief update this morning, I've finished two more Berzerkers, only two more until I finally have a full squad! Enjoy.

Next on the agenda are the last two Berzerkers for this squad, then the 2nd Dread (hopefully both done before this time next week), and then the interesting stuff starts... got two Mk I Land Raiders to clean up and convert, plus a rag tag bunch of Khorne renegades to make up my next 2 Berzerker squads, plus those Terminators. Oh and Kharn and a DP to lead them! Busy Busy!

    Greetings brothers!

Well it's been a while since I've updated, but I haven't been *completely* idle... Managed to finish a couple more berzerkers, as well as reorganise and assemble my first two squads to create a stronger theme and make them easier to recognise on the battlefield.

First up, two Berzerkers (one of which is a Skull Champion in my first squad):

Secondly, a WIP pic of my first squad, the War Hounds:

As you can see, to maintain a theme, they all are from the same era (early 90s) and have similar armour styles.

Next up, a WIP pic of my second squad, the Hellblades:

Again, to maintain the theme, these guys are from the very early period of Chaos (80s renegades), and they all have Bloodletter-style heads. The champion is a Fantasy model from the same era.

Lastly, a few pics to show you what will be coming up shortly, and the vast amount of work I have to do to make it a possibility... Here are a few pics of two MK I Land Raiders that I bought on eBay:

I hope that serves to illustrate the vast amount of work that they both require! Of course, I'll be posting WIP pics as I go along.

Let me know what you guys think!

    Wow!, What a cool thred!!

Old skool models are awesome. I'm loving the beserkers and thinks it's great to see an original landy.

Fantastic work on the painting also!

Although those models are old, (some nearly 30 years!!!) they wouldn't look out of place against a more 'modern' army.

Well done sir. looking foward to see how the land raider turns out!

    Greetings all,

A bit of an update for you, just to show you what I've been working on when life allows it...

First up, as requested over on B&C, I took some photos of my 2nd Dreadnought before and after dipping, just to highlight how fantastic Army Painter dip can be, and how little effort is required. So without further ado, pics:

    Dreadnought before:

And after (still needs varnishing and blood effects):

And next up, I've started restoration work on the first Land Raider:

I've had to cover up the sides with plasticard as they were so damaged, and I've added Heavy Bolters to the hull, a new hatch on top, and what will become a brass figurehead from an old Bloodthirster. Still LOTS of work to do though... Comments are welcome!

    Greetings all,

A brief update for your enjoyment...

First up, I finished off the second dreadnought:

And here are the two big fellas together:

More pics to follow in the next post (as I believe there is an annoying limit on images...)

Did a little more work on the LR too, added rivets to the plasticard on the hull:

And also started work on the lascannons, which are going to be in the style of the weird old sponsons:

That's all for now, more to follow soon. Comments welcome!!

Your Old school dreadies are simply awesome, and the berzerkers are sweet as.

You have convinced me to paint a whole heap of old school khorne berzerkers and use tham as Khorne affiliated Chosen Chaos Space Marines.

Fab thread! My own chaos army includes plenty of these old school models - and I love the dreads in particular. The dip methods works really well and I think particularly the bone looks good with the dip, offsetting the red. Excellent work!

Thanks for the comments guys! The Dreads in particular are some of my favourite models ever produced by GW, just so full of character.

And for your enjoyment, I have a brief update... Been working on the Land Raider a bit, it's not nearly finished yet, but it is getting there:

It's certainly starting to take shape, gotta add a few more details to the hull. As you can see, I've assembled one of the sponsons, in the style of the classic LR, with newer lascannons. You may or may not notice in the first pic that I have been painstakingly reconstructing the damaged tracks, not an easy task I can tell you! Anyway, work continues and another update will follow soon! Comments welcome as always

    Greetings all,

Another brief update for you... I've finished reconditioning the first LR! Pics to follow for your perusal, if you can think of any other accoutrements that need to be added to gain the favour of the Blood God, please say so now! Btw, it still looks rougher than it will do when painted, due to the godawful old paint job on some of the bits, so do keep that in mind. Comments welcome, cheers!

Really great collection! As a collector of old chaos myself (although in WHFB instead) I salute you! This is coming perilously close to inspiring me into 40k chaos as well...

If you are open to constructive criticism, I must say that the devourer heads on the sponsons do not work for me personally. They still have too much Tyranid flavour, and don't say 'lascannon'. But that's the only little thing I can think of to criticise, everything is brilliant!

Thanks for your comments, vintage Chaos really is the best thing about GW for me, there's just so much flavour in every model.

And yep, constructive crit is always welcome! In terms of the devourer heads, I wanted something that had a bit of an organic/daemonic look (although they'll still be painted metallic), similar to the style of the weird old chaos weapons. I agree they might look a bit out of place now, but see how you feel after they have a decent paint job on them

Pics to follow this week of the first squad of Berzerkers completely finished, and some PIP pics of the LR. Cheers all!

Re: VN's Vintage Chaos Emporium (a blog of sorts...)

    Greetings brothers!

Another little update for you... I've painted a few more Berzerkers, completing the first squad now, and taken a pic of everything I currently have completed (which looks like nothing, but there's a lot still WIP right now!). Work has begun on the LR, and it's looking soooo much better than before, so WIP (and perhaps even finished) pics will arrive later in the week.

For now however, feast your eyes on my warriors of the true gods:

    Whole army so far...

More to follow in next post...

    Greetings Brothers!

Well it has been a while since my last update, but rest assured I haven't been idle! I've almost finished painting the first LR, and I've cleaned up and refitted the second one. Just a brief one for now, I'll post a longer update once the first LR is finished, but for now feast your eyes on the WIP pics:

    LR 1

    LR 2

    Comments welcome as always!

Here's a quick update of the first LR with the weapons reattached (I removed them for easier painting). It's all done now bar the varnishing

These are looking really good...the bone especially is really nice.
I like the use of the Cat-Dreadnoughts too (might have to try to scratchbuild one one day).

By the gods, I have been lax in updating this blog recently, and I shall offer my own skull in penance! Or failing that, just do the first of several updates....

Firstly, thanks once again for the comments and interest brothers, it's very motivating!

    Now on to the update:

Firstly, I started work on a Rhino for my Zerkers, restoring yet another crappy model from eBay. First 2 pics are how it came to me, and the second 2 are how it stands now (pre-painting). Let me know if you think it needs anything else...

    Before:

    After:

And lastly (for tonight), some cool themed objective markers that I cobbled together:

Hope you like em! I'm gonna do another update tomorrow, as this isnt everything I've been working on, but you'll just have to wait to see the rest I'll also post a few group pics of everything I've got currently, painted or otherwise!

Re: VN's Vintage Chaos Emporium (a blog of sorts...)

Just one more quick update, in case anyone is interested in what I've been doing instead of updating this blog (among other things of course!):

Firstly, assembling a Magos Explorator for my Inquisitor Warband:

And secondly, I've been teaching my girlfriend how to paint, and tbh her first attempt utterly puts me to shame!

Apparently his name is Bert! Very proud of her efforts indeed, I am!

Looking good. Really nice explorator, and be sure to commend your gf on her effort!
