Wolf Lord Trukson (or Biggest shoulderpads at the gates of Valhalla wins!)

So, got a good offer for my Deathwatch Army a few weeks back and decided to take it. Never got a good feeling from playing a "counts-as" army and wanted to try my hand at something else.

Having tried REALLY hard to get my mind on a new army that wasnt clad in power armour and fighting for the Emperor of Mankind I finally found myself looking at Space Wolves. Yeah I know, but what can you do about it?

Anyways, a quick test-scheme yelded something like this:

So, what I need now are some serious C&C from you guys! As usual im trying to keep it quick, easy and crisp. This tester took me less than an hour to paint not counting drying time etc.

The shoulder pads are from Scibor and they are HUGE, but I still think they are within "acceptable" standards, after all we all know that if you have big shoulder pads you have a big......wallet, right?

It is still a tester so please feel free to give critique now before I enter into production of an army of these guys!

the Space Wolf looks good, but the Shoulderpad you can see in the bottom picture looks like someone spattered a lot of mud onto it. They are within acceptable standards, but the raised details needs more work.

So, being nothing short of a really lazy blogger (plogger?) I thought id give you a heads up on the status of this project.

Ive only really given you a pic of the test mini. Since then a couple of months have passed and ive played the army in a smaller team tournament (finishing a respectable 2nd overall) and as such gotten around to paint a sizeable amount of the 2000 point army. The "big tournament" (about 70 participants) is coming up at the end of May and im done with 27 out of about 43-44 models. The rest are pretty much built and should be primed and ready for paint withinthe next week or so.

The army itself is a fairly standard "Loganwing", here are the bread and butter Wolf Guards:

They are all pretty much finished (if you look closely you can see ive only flocked about half of the bases but thats quick work for later).

Adding some "oomph" to their ranks are these guys:

And since I got a "krak addiction", Fast Attack choices are fairly straightforward aswell!

Questions, comments and criticism is welcomed as per usual! Hopefully ill be less of a lazy bum and give you some WIP pictures of the rest of the army within the next days!

The modelling is good as usual. The leather straps on the shoulder pads on the Termies are looking very good. But I do feel that the highlights are a little harsh... Some of the Termies have very broad highlight stripes on their hip armour, for instance.

(And I'm of the opinion that you really should stay with one army for more than six months, in order to get it working properly.)

What will logan look like? I'm hoping for a conversion...

Yeah, im trying to convince myself of that fact aswell, but my builder/painter self is winning the battle over my gamer self. Hopefully this army will se two tournaments in a row though, but if some of the rumours I hear about Tau are true im suspecting ill be posting my next plog in the Xenos thread

Indeed, im currently replacing his "normal" stormbolter for one of the new GK ones (making him more true to the metal original).

    aww why thankyou!

The combo of the shoulders and the bases makes them look really beefy, and the colour palette is just gorgeous, really like the black accent sections of the armour, looks amazing.

    Those wolves are GORGEOUS!!!

Great work there man. I can't wait to see your take on Logan, should be one hell of a sight.

May I be cheeky and inquire as to what colours you use for that wonderful grey?
Its just the right colour I'm going for on my Pre Heresy puppies but I just can't seem to get it right.....but your recipe is PERFECT!!

    Cheers

    Thanks for the love!

The recipe for the grey is actually really simple:
    1. Codex Grey basecoat (I prime my models black)
    2. Space Wolf Grey highlight
    3. Devlan Mud wash

The wash is AFTER the highlight, to soften the lining a bit and give a more natural shading.

I also took a pic of some heavy support which I forgot to post yesterday, bring out the melta!

That's a whole lot of pain right there!!! 5 multi-meltas........you must REALLY hate tanks!

Once again you've pulled out some stunning models Trukson but there is only one TINY little thing that I would suggest. The multi-melta lad in the front has brown hair where as long fangs (devastators) are said to have long grey hair.

But thats one minor detail which I'm sure no one will really care about.
