Corespur eilte,A bunch of Dark eldar junk by Valo.

Alright so....My plan with this army is.....well not sure yet!I decided to start a DE army purely on the fact that reavers and hellions are cool!

Well that and I really want something completely diffrent then my marines.

Anyways,I took a few minutes to do up a army list,not sure how effective It'll be,but Its got alot of guys that fly so I'm happy!

here the list for you to comment/poke fun at.

Gonna use the forgeworld raven fighter to represent these guys....unless GW comes out with a model before I get to them.

So thats the goal,1500 points of pointy flying badness.I'm trying something diffrent from my other armies,while building this one,I'm buying one unit at a time,fully painting it and then move onto the next.

Reasons for doing this:
1.I wont be distracted by "new shiney toy sindrome",and actually finish this army in q reasonable time frame.
2.with my incredably bad luck with dice,I'm expecting alot of losses,so i want this army to really blow people away,so the paint work will be(with any luck at least(my highest level work.

Did some basing....though I'm not too happy with it....so I may go with either a snow base,or an urban style base like my marine army,any opinons?

I've tried that one purchase at a time thing before, as to how it worked out... I know have an entire eldar army only half painted.
Back to your model, I like it so far.

So far this is looking great. The transitions between the shades of purple are smooth and subtle, giving a nice effect. I can't wait to see the whole piece painted.

In responce to your basing problems, I have a few sugestions.
Firstly, use static grass very sparingly on the bases. Too much of it gives the base an unfinished and messy appearence.
Secondly, to improve your bases, glue sane over the whole base. once painted this gives a good starting platform for and static grass or flock.
Finaly, try to incorperate as many different shades of colour into the paint scheme for the base, as this will give a more natural appearence.

urban (grey) witk bloc of building, winter (white, blue) with snow and yellow grass, temperate (brown) with green grass and leaves in automn ...
Too much grass suffocates the base and gives an unfinished working impression.

Thanks guys,as for the purple here's how i did it:

step 1 - apply a black undercoat
step 2 - mix a 2/1 mix of liche purple and choas black
step 3 - I used a citadel spray gun to spray a very light coat of the mix over the whole model,then slowly built up the edges of the model to a solid purple
step 4 - lightly drybrush the edges with warlock purple,and gently blend into the liche purple.
step 5 - highlight the edges with pure warlock purple
step 6 - lightly highlight the tips of teh model with pure skull white.

Here's the finished hellion,complete with urban base....I Feel alot more confident about this base.Not super happy with how the rider turned out,but he's the first model in the army,so hopefully I'll get the technique for painting black down soon,I find it REALLY hard to make black look like it has depth(and these pictures make it look even worse....I really need to invest in a proper photo setup,any suggestions?)







as always ,any opinion/constructive critism is greatly valued!

Next up I'm going to try my hand at converting a Baron Sathonyx.Pictures may be slow coming for the next week or so as I've got a commission I'm trying to get wrapped up for a friend.

Ok, MAAAAYBE the urban looks good. Really good.
As for the rider, maybe highlight the black with blue rather than grey so it ties into the hair detail and the board details.
Also, I'm thinking you should just leave the eyes shaded like I do. Maybe just try that on the next one?
I really like the grey skin tone. It looks ghoulish.

The urban base is a vast improvement on the old one. The purples and the dirty ashen skintones on the Hellion are looking sweet as well.

Thanks,on that model I used a 1:1 mix of adaptus battle grey to chaos black,did all the raised area's of the model,the highlighted with codex grey,I think for the next I'm going to try going up a shade at a time until I have a proper blending effect on the black.

Anywho....Got sidetracked from my other project with these guys looking at me from the sprue....so I had to go and assemble them....and base them....I figure if I get all these guys finished I wont have any more distractions,and I can get the commission done.....that and it gives me an excuse to buy more dark eldar stuff....though The only unit at the store I need is lillith so she may have to do.
