Tanith First & Only, Eisenhorn Project - 30 cm/1' Figures

Hi everyone, guess this is kinda weird, posting in this here project log with two figures that are done :P
But the project is still underway, so I guess it's ok!

    Anyway, the explanation:
Doing a project, at the university, where one creates something creative, it has to have something to do with games (I study computer graphics for games)
So, hell, I thought, why not make Marquettes of some of Dan Abnetts famous characters, and then model them in zBrush and whatnot. Get that fictive Warhammer 40 000 license to work on!

The interesting part for you guys is, of course, the marquette bit. Less talk, more pictures, here are Oan Mkoll and Colm Corbec from Tanith First & Only Fame, standing 30 cm/1' tall.
They turned out kinda ok I'd say, we're not 100% pleased with them but pleased enough!

We've really tried to keep this as canon as possible, of course we've read all the books (great stuff!) but for the project, we went back, re-read parts and post'it every page with a critical detail. We believe every single detail about these characeters are in the pieces :P If not, do tell!

    Both of 'em.

    They're up on Coolminiornot too!
    http://www.coolminiornot.com/265203
    and

Update: Here's Kara Swole and Tona Criid!

    Feel free to rate 'em!

Not really. In Warhammer (and Inquisitor at that) the weapons are far larger than they would actually be due to the properties of 'Heroic Scaling'. If you look at any real-life weapon they would look roughly the same size as depicted here.

Personally, I think these are BEAUTIFUL models, and thoroughly well done. I expect good things from you, good sir!

Yeah, I guess they're kinda right. might be a little tiny still but yeh, they're were to heavy for the armature anyway, so if I would've made them bigger it would mean problems xD
But as aximand said, I think they're kinda right.

I didn't, kinda, trying to keep it as canon as possible, it does not say that corbec has got small start or so, like Rawne, but he does have those spirals on his arms, so they're in. It says nothing on Mkoll, but seeing every tanith has one, and seeing Abnett mentiong Mkolls former wife by name if found the idea of tattooing her name like som kinda marriage ritual from old tanith to be pretty cool

I like the idea of small lasguns being more practical. Bit like truescale marines with normal sized bolters. I have always thought that 25mm 40k models weapons were a bit big.

Awesome models btw. The clothing actually looks like leather! Maybe a slight gloss to the skin might make it look a bit more fleshy but maybe get a second opinion, just in case that idea is stupid.

hmm...okay, but i think the wooden stock of the gun is still to short, with these muscular arms they won' be able to comfortly rest the gun against the shoulder and squeeze the trigger.

One other thing to point out, is that that is no lasgun actually, it's a las-carbine MK III, which apparently (according to the Dark Heresy pictures and some other sources, miniatures as well) are shoter in lenght than the lasgun :O
Tanith apparently carries "Mark III lasrifles" (mentioned severeal times in the books" which apparently are the same as mar III las-carbines/rifles. That of the cadias for example are apparently mark IV which are bigger, borader and longer

BUt I still agree to the fact that I made them too small xD

Guess the arms became kinda too big to actually xD then again Abanett describes them as "tree trunks" on severeal locations :P

Oh, and while we're on the subject, the color of the stock, that of Nalwood, I actually asked Dan himself what color Nalwood was, couldn't find it in the books
    It's teak, apparently!

    I must say.. wow.

and I wonder, if you asked Abnett about the color of Nalwood, did you also show him the end result? one would wonder how he would react, heh.

Yeah, I did, he thought they were "cool and fantastic" :P
I'll be asking him to post them on his blog later, so that the fans can truly say their say.

Haha yeah, d'oh! I know, I was going for bending forward like he's about to jump you at first, but it kinda messed up in the end, and when I had to drill him to the base the screw kinda said "to hell with this! I'm sitting where I damn well please" so he kinda ended up like that :P
But I still wanted to show him from that angle that gives it away( the sides) so well, yeah

Thanks for all the comments, please do keep em coming, questions about hows and why and stuff like that, it's always good fun to answer!

I thought Oan looked like he was leaning against a wall. Like the back of the shelf where he'll be displayed.
When will the `to scale' Chimera for them be done?

Hah, yeah, he looks cool though, kinda like I pictured him myself.
Can we see the greens of Colm and Oan? I just noticed the regimental badges on the cloaks: awesome.

have you shown them to Dan yet? I'm pretty sure he'll be thrilled!

Damn it! That could've solved my problem :P I'd just had to create a wall of some sort from plasticard or something.....but I guess that would've covered my cloak to much, and I liked the splatter mud effect it had :P
    The chimera eh....hmm we'll see O_O

Great that I nailed your picture of him, Mkoll doesn't have much to go on in the books really. Short beard, hair, early fifties some minor details and such. But I hope he's like everyones version of him haha :P
Mine was actually quite different before I read up on the details for some reason xD

The greens can be seen above Not so much green as grey tho! Made them from Super Sculpey, and I made the small details, like the regimental badge for instance, out of green stuff!
And yeah, Dan have seen them, he thought they were "Fantastic!" :P Whihc of course fuels my fires!

wow bravo, the level of detail, the painting and the love given into these are just amazing.

My only critism would be the faces, but they're probably the hardest part to do, and you've done quite well, they just could be better I guess.

Other than that, these put a very nice smile on my face as a reader of the series, thank you

Haha, in Due time, I hope here and Creed are to everyones liking, they're were so frikkin hard to make, I dunno if I succeeded in the end but they turned out OK I guess :P
Harder to sculpt than the men, absolutely.

Thanks! I did put alot of love into the painting and the detail, all for the fans, and the fact that I'm a fan, so glad that you liked em!
Concerning the faces, oh yes they are definitely the hardest part of the whole sculpt, I redid Mkolls face from scratch (that is, after calling it done, and than not being pleased the day after) three (!) times! And at long last I thought that this one was ok. It's not great, but it's ok Kinda way.

One shall point out, and I've probably said thsi before, that these two are my
very first humans that I ever sculpted. Ever. My only super sculpey experience before these two were two dwarfs

And those guys were "easy". Dwarfs are waaaay in my comfort zone, and if one messed up the anatomy, one can always cover it up with muscle mass and beard :P
