So this plog started in late 2010 after I'd got engaged with the idea that I'd better got on and finish some armies. it failed as the summer of 2011 got VERY busy indeed.
I then restarted it with the aim of painting the large collection of plastic sprues I'd accumulated and then possibly playing some more.
This 2nd objective has been far more successful.
As I write this Edit now I have finished 2250pts of Marines and played 3 games of 6th Ed which is way more than I played of 5th Ed (0) and almost equals the number of 4th ed games I think.

I'm currently thinking as to which box of sprues get attacked next. but for now please enjoy.

Dear Warseers,

Having happily finished one Army by the close of 4th ed having started playing in RT 1991 (no really). I am determined to do slightly better.

My objectives are as follows:

1) Finish my 2000pt Bad Moon Ork army (approx 1500pts painted)
2) Finish my 2000pt Imperial Guard army (approx 700pts painted)
3) Actually finish the damn drop pod I started ages ago and update my Salamanders to 5th Ed.

Army lists are summarised below:
I'm in 40k to model, paint and for fun so I know they're not the best lists in the world.

EDIT: Stuff Coloured Green is painted and completed.

Orks:
HQ: Big Mek SAG, Weirdboy
E: Burnaz, Lootaz
T: 2 big Boyz mobs, 2 trukk mobz, 1 Grot mob
FA: Stormboyz, Bikerz
HS: Kans, Flash Gitz (it's a Bad moon army), Battlewagon

Imperial Guard
HQ: CCS + chimera
E: Ogryns
T: Platoon CS + 2 squads + Mortars, Platoon CS + commissar + 2 squads (blob), Vets+ Chimera, Penal squad
FA: 2x Sentinals, Hellhound/ variant this is likely to involve magnets.
HS: Leman russ, Exterminators x2, Manticore

Salamanders:
HQ: Librarian, Vulkan
E: Terminator Assualt, Terminator normal, Dread, Sternguard+ DP, techmarine
T: 4x Tactical squads, 1x scout squads
FA: LS, LS new, Assault squad
HS: Vindicator, LR, Devastators
F: Aegis defence line w Qgun

So weekend round up:

Tweaked and Finished Sentinals

Transfered and varnished plain Leman Russ.

Finished Turrets and detailing hulls on the two exterminators and applied transfers, small amout of detailing- smoke launchers and turret lasgun.

Interiors of the sentinals, these are the old metal plastic hybrid ones.

Leman Russ exterminators, pretty much all done bar sponson and hull plug in weapons and a little bit of turret detail.

Note the water cans on the back of one, now weathered and look less incongruous.

Paint Scheme:
Spay Chaos black.
Green: Ork Flesh with fine Goblin Green highlight washed with Devlin mud with a hint of the old 2nd Ed armour wash mixed in.
Brown: Beastial Brown, edge Highlights with Vermin fur. Wash with 2nd Ed Brown wash and then weather with devlin mud
Light Spots: Bubonic Brown with thinned chestnut wash.
Metal: bog standard boltgun metal, mithril silver highlight and wash with armour wash and devlin mud.
Weathering: stippled Black/Bestial Brown mix 1:6

Mid week update.

A back injury has slowed things down a little bit, that and actual Event planning.
A tip for older Warseers is that citadal colours are great for mocking up wedding colour schemes and while you're arguing about that it's perfectly possible to do some base coating though do appear to be concentrating on the colour scheme whilst doing so otherwise trouble ensues.

Anyway:

Progress on sponson weapons for Leman Russes = 0

But...

Chimera Command bunker base coated and partially camoflaged with highlights see in progress pic.

Command Squad, 4 guys touched up and based. New standard bearer built and mid paint job.
The gold is text book: Old burnished gold-> chestnut wash -> shining gold

Now the actual Christmas update:

So thanks to careful wishlisting and buying my other half a massive food mixer that she wanted:

Santa brought:
1 Dark eldar codex (hmm interesting and quite tempting)
1 Chimera
1 Hell Hound
1 Manticore.

This means that I now can't buy any models apart from an astropath to complete both Ork and IG armies.

Photos upto today are incomplete as have unwisely used a blunt blade and made a rather deep incision into my left index finger. This caused a pause in modeling as I didn't want to undercoat everything in sanguine red.

As a comment the 5th Ed chimera is a lot easier to put together than the 3rd Ed one.

Hellhound:

• Chassis built with tracks, body and base together, front piece magnitised to allow interchangeable hull weapons.
• Plate with promethium tanks attached- to be painted as separate sub assembly
• Turret built and magnetised with pins in interchangable weapons

Manticore

• Hull built with only one upright in place
• Weapon mount built to be painted seperately
• 4x rockets
• hatch cover
• driver- agan to be painted seperately
• Hull weapon again magnetised to allow interchangability

Chimera:

• Base and sides+ magnets

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

This update is cheating as it's from last year, well yesterday.
And is the completed HQ bunker, sorry, chimera for my IG.

Notes on photos:

• Chimera has gold Eagle to match Command squad.
• Chimera has a lot of dirt and damage to reflect it's longevity vs the rest of the army which is the typical short lived IG cannon fodder
• Replacement panel on LHS hasn't been beaten up yet or had HQ marking painted on (in 40 universe)
• Crewman has purple trim and gold eagles/ IG symbols to match rest of command section.
• Kill markings on Turret

So 13months on from the last post has this Plog been an Epic fail??

Well sort of.

Reasons for not continuing with the Plog:
- laptop/ computer failure combined with loss of a camera
- life getting in the way.

Reasons for not achieving painting objectives, there are two:
Life, since starting this plog I got married (boy that uses a lot of time up) and became National Champion (again) in my chosen sport.
and...
I may have been unable to resist Jez's Dark Eldar and have started a 4th 40k army.

So far I have painted:
3x Heamonchuli, 5 Wraks, 1.5x Raiders, a few warriors, 4 blasterborn and a venom, a Razorwing, some reavers and 4 Harlequins
with 20 wyches and a troupe leader + shaddowseer to go.

Anyway, Now life is a bit less hectic i intend to get this plot upto speed and actually finish some armies properly.

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of 40k, together with the fact that I got a vulkan for christmas and finally thought sod it I'll enjoy the twin linked goodness for the remaining months of 5th edition 1st objective is to finish the Salamanders. They're my first army so it seems right the get done first.
