I found him quite easy to paint the raised detailing makes life a lot easier, tried for a source lighting effect from the burning Sallies symbol on his backpack.

Razorback with HB:
Salamanders symbols and flames are sculpted greenstuff, weathering used a similar technique to the IG vehicles earlier in the thread.

3 are lead originals and other two are plastic marines from a former command squad re painted and with arm replacements.

Devastators and a new Landspeeder next...

New Landspeeder:
Much as I love the old 2nd ed metal landspeeder that features on page 1 of this thread I needed a model that I could easily adapt to a tornado depending on whether I was playing 1000pts or larger therefore a new plastic one was bought, you can see it being painted and assembled at the bottom of page 1 of this thread. I've magnetised the belly gun and gone for a Ice blue/copper effect of the gravitational reaction plate with a bit of directed lighting, pilots shoulder pad is one of the excellent Forge World ones.

I found this kit a great one to assemble having heard bad things about it being a nightmare I found it really easy, having bought it on the 19th Feb 2012 and it being finished now.

Devastator Squad.
This is a bit of a cheat as these were painted a long time ago, possibly as far back as 2005, the 2nd ed metal devastators needed stripping prior to painted to remove their exceedingly poor 90's paint job.
They needed squad badges and chapter symbols to finish which was a nice easy finished squad in a night :-)

Small update, just what was on the table 1 or 2 nights ago.
Having rattled through 8 marines tonight I have 2 marines and one shoulder pad to finish then both tactical squads done and first 1000points complete. As i have a meeting after work tomorrow, will likely have to wait to Wednesday .

In the foreground is a techmarine I happened upon while going through the bits box and am repainting from his rather poor previous paint job.
He forms no part of my army and is just being painted for completeness or he might get wheeled out if I feel a sudden urge to play apocalypse.

have also been doing touch ups and rebadging on a vindicator so once the last 2 marines are done completed list will jump to 1330pts.

So largish photo update covering the last couple of weeks:

First up Tactical squad 1, this was another rebadging job with some shoulder pads being replaced, most of this squad were bought circa 2001 when the Armageddon Codex came out and were mostly painted initially with that codex and subsequent 4th Ed codex in mind. To get them 5th ed compliant required a bit of weapon shuffling.
Anyway:

Tactical squad 1's Rhino: this just needed some rebadging and a renumber and then reweathering so the touched up bits matched

Lenses are white, bad moon yellow (2nd ed paint), Golden Yellow, a Brown depending on size of lens and degree of contrast thinned snakebite or bestial mostly

Tactical Squad 2:
This needed a rebadging but also due to the loss of 2 special weapons in 5th Ed some extra marines were needed to make up the numbers.
Fortunately I have a large number of the one piece marines from the 2nd Ed boxed set about, so these guys got painted up from bare plastic, just to differing vintages and different paints they blend in pretty well.
Tactical Squad 2

Plasma gunner; again using directed lighting and show squad markings.

Sarge and Heavy Weapon Marine. As you may have gathered all the Sergeants have black Helmets. I started doing this before the fluff reverted to it's early 90's version of the Salamanders have jet black skin, Red helmets didn't work with the colour scheme but the black did so there it was, when the fluff re-evolved to give a plausible in universe reason for the choice I was quite pleased.

Update from the last week and a bit:

Combat Squad done


The new marines come from a spare marine bits most likely from the tactical squad sprue and the "space marines" boxed set of the mid nineties that had 15 Lead SM in 3 poses, other members of this boxed set make up the majority of Tactical squad 1, the devastator sergeant and a very other marines dotted about. It came in a box with this bit of cover art:

Obviously painting Marines from scratch I though I'd use this as a demo of my technique, as you'll see the paints vary from just last week all the way back to 2nd ed. Sadly all the excellent paints from 1st ed are now dead :-(

All the colours are out as I've not upgraded or changed to the NEW!!!!! paint set but i hope they give you an idea.
So:
1) Assembled and based (I use a sand gravel mix from a particular hill for basing stuck down with PVA, it seems to work ok.

2) Undercoated with Tate Selection acrylic from B and Q then base coated with CHAOS BLACK, base is BESTIAL BROWN

3) Gold bits painted BURNISHED GOLD, I found the 2nd ed version covers much better than then newer stuff which needed two coats.

4) Wash with old school CHESTNUT WASH

5) Gold Bits Highlighed with BURNISHED GOLD then SHINING GOLD again 2nd ed incarnation

6) Final Light Highlight with MITHRIL SILVER

7) Having been quit messy with th metal layer it all gets covered up with ORKHIDE SHADE, in the past I's have repainted black and used either SALAMANDER GREEN or a custom green/black mix that approximated it i think it was Ork Flesh + Chaos Black.

8) Edge Highlight SNOT GREEN

9) Highlight slightly finer with SCORPION GREEN, thin layering is probably the best description of what I'm doing here.

10) Paint metal bits BOLT GUN METAL

11) Paint Grenades and seals MECHRITE RED

12) WASH: BABAB BLACK- thinned, this shades the armour and knocks back the scorpion green a little, the metallic bits were given a 2nd wash of 2nd Ed Armour WASH

13) Highlight metalic bits with CHAINMAIL and then tidy up the black with Chaos BLACK.

14) Parchment painted with DENEB STONE

Nearly Done:
15) Wash the Parchment with Chestnut wash

16) LAYER with BLEACHED BONE

17) Highlight with SKULL WHITE

18) Layer BLOOD RED onto grenades and seals

19) Do a subtle highlight with thinned DWARF FLESH

20) Having rebased them with SKULL WHITE PAINT the light coloured and flame effect bits with BAD MOON YELLOW

21) Blend from BADMOON -> SUNBURST -> GOLDEN YELLOW -> BLOOD ANGEL RED (an Orange from the "Red Period")
on Flamey bits and straight to Blood Angel on the Chapter Badge.

22) Stick the other arm on, finish the base, add transfers/ squad markings, varnish and the static grass- SIMPLES

Long Easter weekend with no work and the Wife at work.

GOOD FRIDAY:
Almost all DIY and Gardening task done, domestic authorities happy.

Goal for weekend => 2000pts,
Which means: varnish and base two remaining tactical marines
Build and paint a Land Raider from the sprue



SATURDAY:
Visit the new GW Chiswick, leave with some assault marines and cc Termies. both planned purchases. the cc terms act as either/or choice with existing terminators depending on 5th/6th ed changes, Assault marines allow push onto 2250.

The discovery of the 5 existing assault marines currently in the bits box actually being painted to a reasonable standard and not needing a strip or repaint was very pleasing.

EASTER SUNDAY:
