I would have thought that some of the paint would come off too with the water, but thanks very much, I've been wanting to try this effect for some time.
Cheers.

Great idea! After the second "rusting" it looks much better, definitely carries the idea across. Can't wait to see the finished product!

didnt have much time to get alot done last night, basically just did the front weapon's mount and the aethersail. They're just rusted, not "weathered" yet.
I'm definately tempted to go the purple route for the sail, I'll probably do some testing tonight.
The rust looks coool. You are very brave to try it.
If you like what I've said please return the favour
{ Champions of El'Jonson: The Deathwing }{ Dark Eldar: Purple and Spiky }
{ Mordheim } { Tale of three (sometimes four) painters }
Some progress made :
Finished the hull
Glued the undercarriage (painted just the brown i've been using for undercoat of rust)
Painted the Weapon post in front
Painted the Aethersail's post.
Started painting the Aethersail
Painted the sign in front. I tried a glowing effect, but the consistency of my paint kinda screwed it up... not really the best kind of detail to do it either i think....
Painted the driver's instrument...
Still need to work on that sail's purple, paint the weapons, the crew, and that should be about it... what you guys think?

I actually really like it, very different from what you normally see for Deldar (or any eldar). Are the warriors going to be done the same way? Because if they are I'm really looking forward to see what that looks like.

It's not at all to my taste, but it is superbly executed, well done. It is certainly different.![]()

BDub has made a great looking paintjob on a Venom and has been interviewed about it on http://rant1nem1n0r.blogspot.com/
Hi Enkiel,
The weathering itself looks good but i would think it would have been better to paint shadows and darken the recesses before the weathering was applied. I also think that there is to much contrast even if i understand that contrast is the point here. With the heavy contrast from the dark brown weathering and lack of original shadows and such it looks abit strange.

I'm not 100% sure. They'll definately be painted with part of white, but my previous experience with that color been less than pleasant... I'm thinking about chest and shoulder white, rest purple (like the sail)
Yeah, i've seen that interview. His look awesome, but its definately not the same type of weathering i'm looking for. I've use that type of dabbling before (on my ogre), and i really want to try something new with mine, and his talent is well above mine.
i wanted so much to stay away from what other do with their Dark Eldar (the edge highlight everywhere and all), that i kind of forgot highlight/shadow. At this stage, its too late to change it, and i think it would be a bit challenging to do, but i'll keep that in mind for one of my next 4 vehicle....
I wasn't talking about his paintjob in general, just the specific edge weathering with paint worn of to show clean metal.
Your rust effect looks great, but you need more definition of the shape of your vehicle.
Shading and edge definition will lift the model greatly.
I know what you mean with the White (I have a Biel-tan army) but the white and purple on the infantry will probably look good (Deldar always look good in purple
)

I don't really feel the purple, to be honest. If you still want to keep it, make it much darker, but preferably go with a really dark red instead. At the moment the model looks to bright as a whole, when going with white for DE you'll need a really dark secondary colour to evil things up a bit.

another night working overtime, so i wont be working much tonight. I'm kind of puzzled anyway, i have simply no clue what color to paint the weapon... I dont want them rusted, as i think even if they are living in lower Commorragh, they still want to keep their weapon top notch.
What color you'd guy recommend? the same ol' black and gold? (definately wouldnt work i think)
It looks great, like it's been on the bottom of the ocean for a few decades. And it's very different from all the others, keep it up.
How about gunmetal blue for the weapons? Reaper has a metallic dark blue that is pretty good.
That's what I am using, anyway.
Well, the past weekend wasnt such a good time for painting i guess. First i was taking care of the kids alone, so that kept me buzy most of the day, and when night came, it wasn't that much better ; My white primer decided to crap on me, and start making very ugly patch on my minis, scraping most of my crew in the process. All they are worth now is paint scheme test. So i bough a new can, to prime the rest of my Ravager, just to realize that my airbrush's can is empty (bad fitting made it lose air i guess), so now i can't spray the rest of my vehicle. To add to the fun, there's some very bad storm coming around here, bringing snow, rain, and all kind of crap that makes my days even worst.
So i despite all this, i "finished" my aethersail (still unsure if i want to add something to it or not), and i started on my Dark Lance, hoping to make them stand out of the crowd, without looking like a clown.

I finally got everything i needed to start airbrushing again, so some more work were done on the ravager. I basically got the rest of the hull ready for some brushing tomorrow. Lots of work, nothing to show.
I also worked on my Dark lance. Quite frankly, i think i like how they turned out, but still debating if i should rust them out or not. I am also considering attempting some kind of OSL, but i'm chicken when it comes to do that...
This look is no longer used
Finally, i received what i ordered for my base (diamond plate plastic), and i started working on my bases. As i couldnt resist the call of purchasing Urien, i figured i'd try to make him a base, and see if i like it... Keep in mind its gonna be very dark, and very rusty. I'm kind of aiming for black rusted bases, to really help my mini pop more.

I'll definately paint rust on the weapons, its on my to do list for the rest of the week.
A little more progress. Weapon platform are almost finish, i still have to put some more rust on them. I assembled the whole thing, and well, i'll let you decide....

i do like your use of purple.
but it doesn't contrast perfectly with your plating.
a suggestion
have like 90:10 purple bone mix with your weathering technique.
and it might be a little better IMO.
also my ratio might be a bit off.
Awesome stuff though man.
Edit:
i read some of your stuff your going to weather :S
my bad.
