very nice work on these Psychosis. I sympathize with the years in the making bit. My samurai are more or less the same case

    Are these Perry miniatures?

Re: Messing with the Crusades...my small army

For a long time I did not think I was good enough as an army painter to paint these knights and such, but my skill set has improved over years of practice. Its one reason why I plan to do some Brettonians down the road abit when I get caught up.

These are Perry's from their HYW line, so a bit out of period, but nicer looking than the Norman mailed versions in my opinion.

Here is the first of the other knights I am doing. Adding a bit of color as I don't want an entirely Holy Order army. There will be Franks, Spaniards, English, Knights of Jerusalem by time I am all done. So I can go from the Iberian to the Holy Land.

wonderful job! I really like the shield and the basing!

one suggestion; why dont you add an extra highlight to the sword? It looks realistic as it is but an extra highlight would really make the sword stand out in a nice way.

    Just a suggestion,

    great job anyway!

Your Hospitallers are fantastic, as is the freehand on the blue knight's shield.

Last pic, lower left of the blue knight. You missed a spot of brown that got flecked onto the caparison at some point.

That "could" be mud/dirt? I didn't see it when I was drooling over the photos. The middle photo too, by the by. Still and all....I LIKE that knight, looks darn good....dirt/mud and all that.

Nope, didn't intend to be dirt. Just missed it. Photos always make it easier to see.

Re: Messing with the Crusades...my small army

My more colorful unit of knights.

Some of them are my converted Perry Miniatures knights mixed with the Perry’s Holy Order/Hospitaller Knights.

The ones without hoods and sleeve-less surcoats are my conversions. I think this unit of knights turned out pretty good. I was attempting to get them out of the First Crusade in the 1090s, into more of the late Second and Third Crusades.

I also played around a bit with color schemes, make some of them Knights of Jeruselem, some Ibelin color schemes, Franks, English, and Spaniard themes. Note some of the kite shields are actually GW High Elves shields from their foot infantry, that made conversion of the shields much easier.

I'm extremely happy with the way the horses turned out. I really wish that the Perry's someday convert some of their horses to give them caparisons, because its a lot of work to do. The musician horse is kind of a miscast, but it does have a very dynamic look to it.

I do want to be able to play these guys across alot of periods and from the Iberian Pennisula all the way to the Holy Land. So there you have it for now. That is it for my WAB knights for awhile. I will come back to them later this year.

Very nice painting here, mister P ! It's always a great pleasure to see some updates on this army ! ^^
You have a really bright and colorful unit, just as knights must be IMO. and the basing is simple, but very effective.

Unfortunately it looks like it has been shot and is about to go down.

Either that or it has tripped.

It (the horn blower) did catch my eye in the photo. It adds the "oh dear" effect to the scene. Gee....maybe the horse was trying to come in under the radar....in a kind of stealth mode??

These are beautiful. I especially like the basing work, it captures the semi-arid Holy Land terrain perfectly.

Nice freehand designs on the shields as well.

IMHO, Conquest Games will be around for many years. I hope to continue buying and using their goodies.

Re: Messing with the Crusades...my small army

I finally got around to modeling up my Conquest Games unit. I feel I'm getting a bit better with the caparisons. Practice helps. Going to attempt to fix the flat foreheads also to make them look a bit more like the Perry horses.

And will do a couple riders, even though Conquest already has some in padded armor and cloth.

Got to get ready for Adepticon, again.

Will you check out the upcoming Fireforge Teutonic knights ?

Re: Messing with the Crusades...my small army

I like all things plastic. Not a fan of metal. The Perry's are very nice, but the castings need some tender loving care to make them look really nice, I find myself scraping, filing, wet sanding, and smoothing them out with putty a lot. The plastics not so much.

I really like the Conquest stuff. I have a few pet peeves about them, ie the horses' flat foreheads, but they are very good kit. They fit nicely together, they are easy to remove flash from. They have a great deal of options on the sprue. That wonderful casualty figure is included. They are relatively inexpensive. I definitely look forward to their infantry.

Fireforge. I will certainly be getting some of them. They are already in the period that I like so, I won't have to do as much work, and they look very cool. Mine won't be done as Teutonics. I have other plans for them.
