The dragon kit, as I've said before, seemed to be a bit of a mess for me as well. It wouldn't quite go together right. I still think the right way to build it would be to hack all the lugs off, and just play it by ear... Well, basic positioning without lugs...

    Re: Super Dungeon Explore

Yeah the dragon was pretty terrible... I think someone posted a step-by-step guide on the board game website which I followed. From memory, the back leg of mine doesn't hang off the base, but I would have to check when I get home to confirm.

Basically once you realise that you need to do some bending ,its not too bad. Heat the parts in hot water and they bend really quickly and easily. The tail was probably the part that needed the most bending.

    Re: Super Dungeon Explore

When people talk about soaking them in hot water how hot are we talking? I did all my bending by letting the piece sit closely underneath my painting lamp for a minute or two and that seemed to work just fine.

Would just hot water from the sink work - or would I have to get it near a boil or something like that?

*** After some testing - I'm guessing the water would have to be heated beyond what a sink can output. But with some patience and my lamp, I got my dragon to a point I'm pretty happy with. And with his leg mostly on the base to boot.

I wouldn't use boiling water, it would make the material way too bendy. Or if you did, don't leave it sitting in the water, just dunk it in then take it out and bend. Somewhere between hot tap water and boiling water.

Your dragon looks good to me Schmapdi

My dragon wasn't actually that bad, the elf ranger was worse. I think I only had to heat one leg and I just used the hot tap.

Heating the figures to remove bends is quite annoying due to the material. I've found the flash to be a bit annoying, and I've needed to fill some gaps but so far I'm really happy with the miniatures. I think they're great and I love their style lol

    Psychotic eyes!!!

I've found that painting eyes on the heroes is quite tough. I tend to paint them with large pupils and make sure that the pupils touch the top of the eyes to avoid that staring psychotic look.

Yours are style awesome though Norton. Liking Angry Bear especially.

Caverns of Roxor has a "Third Quarter" release date. With GenCon in August this may mean it'll get released there. A second expansion is slated for November though I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see it till 2013.

@Emperor Norton - Cracking job on those minis. Some of the nicest I've seen.

Think I need to get this out and play it again. We had one go but were kind of fudging our way through the rules as we went along and although we sort of enjoyed it, it was a tad confusing.

Too many glowing recommendations here though suggest I should at least persevere.

The rulebook is woefully inadequate but if you can get past that the game itself is excellent. There is a PDF on the Soda Pop website with errata and a FAQ on it which is well worth checking out.

    Just spotted this on FB.

Looks like a little pirate chap at the front as well as the Princess and the Dwarf Sperlunker. Can't quite make out the boss...he looks a bit like a flaming lava Anubis.

I wonder what the RRP will be.

The Fireflow Denizens and The Rock Top Gang look to be the new spawning points and the new Boss seems to be the Herald of Vulcanis. The stat card for the Princess is floating about online. She mainly buffs the party with extra dice, healing and loot choices.

The little fella in front that you ID as looking pirate-y actually has a strong Link (legend of Zelda) vibe, to me - just in a blue tunic. Seems like that would make sense, too, given that the dwarf spelunker seems vaguely Mario-ish and the Princess is the spitting image of Peach. And of course rock turtles is somewhat reminiscent of koopas.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

Look at the Dragon Warrior/Quest 1 hero, and you'll find the inspiration for the new SDE hero - blue tunic and hat, sword and shield.... can't wait to see what they do...

On another note, I've been pondering the creation of a Summoner-style character; someone with a bit of the Consul's power who has rebelled against his former master. One of my friends suggested it, and I've taken it to heart as I'm already midway through sculpting a robed SDE mini for it (pics later).

The only problem? BALANCING him. After all, someone who can act as a spawn point is... well... a bit insane. But if it could be done, it would be a whole new dynamic to the Heroes' game.

I think I've managed to do it - though I have yet to actually stat out the Hero himself - and I wanted to run it past some other players to see if they sounded good.

    1) At the start of the game, after the Consul picks his Minibosses, the Summoner can pick one Miniboss model as his summon/Eidolon/best friend.

    2) In order to summon this monster, it costs a Potion and it can be placed in any four squares adjacent to the Summoner.

    3) The Summoner and Eidolon share life totals, Status Effects, and Action Points - a Heart of damage dealt to one is a Heart dealt to both (ditto for healing), and if a Rex Eidolon wants to use his Rex Smash! it costs their full allotment of AP for that round. They are activated at the same time, and must be on the same tile at the end of their turn - if for some reason they are not, then the Summoned monster vanishes. (yes, this makes the duo vulnerable to the Push ability, but them's the breaks ne?) If the summoned monster takes the final shared Wound, only it dies - the last Wound does not carry over to the Summoner.

As far as stats go, I'm DEFINITELY thinking mostly blue dice for the Summoner's stats - 2 blue in Attack and Dex, and MAYBE 3 blue in Armor. 2 red Will would be helpful even beyond the Summoner's abilities, and I'm thinking a Magic 6 range could keep the Summoner attacking easily while still keeping him in a risky spot. For abilities, of COURSE his Potion is Summon; a stat-boosting ability (maybe a Augment, Range 6, +1 red Attack, or Augment, Range 6, +1 red Armor) would be almost a no-brainer and make it interesting because it's not an Aura as well.

I'd really love to work in some way for him to summon Minions as well, but balancing that... what a nightmare.

Ah yes, I can see the Dragon Warrior hero look too. Sounds interesting although I suppose I wonder how different from a paladin he'll be?

Perhaps your summoner could have a choice between summoning the eidolon/mini-boss or summoning several minions? The minions would obviously offer a little more versatility but lack the umph that the big guy has in combat. Each time one of them dies, the summoner loses a heart. I'd vote that healing the summoner doesn't bring a minion back, though.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

    Reading this bit -

"Aww, the Baby Dragons are so cute! But they're deadly too, which is why the heroes always seem to take out their Spawning Point first."

    - suggests that they think the dragons only spawn from the Dragon Clutch spawn point.
