I can't wait to see some paint on these guys. The conversions are very nice!

Re: Kabal of the Shadow Void

Cerealkiller - thanks. I'm thinking of plundering a few more bits from dark age to use amongst the wracks when I get around to them.

Meriweather - well I have finished 2 of each so far and the next 3 of each are almost done. Post 7 for finished models.

I've been tidying up my work area and also trying to get stuff figured to be painted over the next year. I'm doing the Dark Eldar gradually so as to a) not get distracted and painting random stuff in the army TOO much and b) so as to not just swamp my painting area more than it already is.

Past that I've finally figured a base for the Haemonculi #1

Going to be doing bases for reavers etc the next few days and I've undercoated to start painting the converted Haemonculi.

Re: Kabal of the Shadow Void

Well I'm stuck at home with sick wife who's caught the cold that was going around my family so didn';t do a lot yesterday except tidy, watch Sherlock and 30 rock.

    Started painting the Haemonculi though.

Start of the process. Trying more washes as part of it and different skin textures.

After about 2 hours all in. Been quite lucky in the IOB mage model as it has a gem as part of it which helps with the Haemonculi fluff. He should get finished the next day or two and hopefully I'll get a lot more painted this week.

The highlights on that haemonculus are a bit... Harsh.

I think the overall concept is good, but could benefit from some serious blending.

As I said that was two hours in and here's a more up to date photo.

I've done red washes to give the impression of caked in blood on the skin given the haemonculi's work. Since this pic I've sorted a pin for the base and going to pin him in place once I've finished some more work on him. Need to tidy up his eye, but this is about halfway through yesterday so that may already be sorted now.

Keravin, it looks like you need to delete some photos from your photobucket account!

Nope it's the bandwith that's causing the issue. Should be sorted now.

Re: Kabal of the Shadow Void

Well I'm out tomorrow so nothing will get painted until tomorrow night at the earliest.

Been thinking how to do Pain point markers for the Dark Eldar and I realised I had the heads from the basing kit that I was unlikely to do anything with. So...

    Pins to hold on

more helmets drilled out. The guard helmet might not work unless I create a well for it to go into on the base.

Apart from that I've been finishing off the new reaver and finally done bases for him and his predecessor.

I'm also pretty sure I've finished the haemonculi.

I'm going to leave him a few days to have another look over now I've stopped on him and then take some decent shots in the daylight. Those will show his skirt off better.

Hope you like and comments welcome.

Lovely idea to paint the things in his hair as poison canisters.
Like how the model turned out but it is hard to see the extra arm in the picture.

Re: Kabal of the Shadow Void

Thanks SpeedFreek. I'll try and get a side shot or focus shot to show it off. It is sort of tucked under the other one to make it look more 'normal'. Well as normal as a third arm gets.

    Hey Keravin,

The pain counters are looking cool. I'll rack my brains about guard helmet possibilities.

All the painting that you've done since I've last peeked in here is great stuff. I particularly like the highlights on the reaver and the Haemonculi as a whole; it was a great idea for a conversion, well executed and is one of the best painted things in the log! Congrats.

Just like to say that your bases are awesome too.

    cheers

    Adam

Re: Kabal of the Shadow Void

Hadriel - thank. Pretty happy with the Haemonculi. Planning on getting some better pictures of him either today or tomorrow as he's getting entered in an online competition.

I 've been working on Tau for a bit, but with a battlesuit done I switched to getting other stuff on my desk worked on whilst I wait to start a Hammerhead. As part of that though I got distracted by build ideas for the Dark Eldar again.

Inspired by Pazshadow's log here's one reaver ready to take on their opposition head on. It's another of the new fronts on an old bike and got it even sleeker. Definitely looking to pick up at least one more new front.

Had this idea ever since I saw the raider kit and the hangers on.

And here are most of my reavers so far. Got one more old school blaster bike as well. Very happy that I've made each bike unique.

Re: Kabal of the Shadow Void

As I'm getting closer to finishing the current Wyches and warriors I'm painting I've been getting the next batch ready.

Rejigged this mandrake conversion. Until yesterday she had the shardnet and impaler, but just looked awkward so I removed them and redid her.

And finally the next Haemonculi is done.

Pretty happy with it and glad I added the tattoo to break up all the skin and skin. Probably start on an Archon next as I like painting characters to keep me working on the troops.

A lot of cool stuff, glad to see somebody else who still likes the old dark eldar models.

I'm still going to wait for the real heamonculi models, I just have this feeling they'll just be amazing, besides once we have wracks + one or several heamonculi, converting possiblities will be endless.

Re: Kabal of the Shadow Void

Kharandhil - thanks. Based on the pictures in the codex I'm not enamoured with the design of the wracks, but they might prove me wrong. Probably won't be for a few months before I get supplies together to build my own.

    The Haemonculi is done.

Side shot showing how the arm fits in for Speedfreek.

Been finishing what's on my desk so the warriors first

Re: Kabal of the Shadow Void

    And then the new wyches

That's 5 of each done, two reavers and two haemonculi. Next up is another reaver, 3 more wyches and warriors, and possibly an archon. I've also primed the first raider so I'll be working on that once I've finished the Hammerhead I'm doing for my Tau.

And one more cut up was a spare succubus that my wife got to paint ages ago that has become another wych.

Going to look at picking up a few more old ones to convert up in a similar way to Alith_Anar.

Re: Kabal of the Shadow Void

The thing I am loving over and over again is how well the old parts mingle with the new ones. My one complaint is that I hate the head on that old metal splinter cannon guy - I think I would have replaced it - but on the whole I love the way they're all coming together.

Re: Kabal of the Shadow Void

Hatemonger - thanks very much. I don't mind that head to be honest. Certainly compared to some of the others.

I've been slow on my Dark Eldar as I'll admit I'm cheating on them with Tau at the moment. I'm slowly keeping going. Working on 3 wyches, a reaver and now an archon.

Got him on a nice base. Doing a turquoise flame effect on the soul trap. I'm also going to work on my first hellion. I'll be starting my Tau plog soon as well as working on their fluff and the problems they've been having with certain Dark eldar raiders.

I like the Archon. I used the corsairs to make counts-as mandrakes a while back. I have quite a few not in use lying around. I think they might become trueborn or something similar. I like the headdress. He'd look good on a sky board actually- it looks somewhat bat-like *dives to bitz box*...
