Why Pariah's Projects are always delayed....

    Hey All,

This is a log I've decided to start to show all my Real-World models. These are generally done in between other projects, so this is the reason the others are normally late with any updates.

Re: Why Pariah's Projects are always delayed....

1st up is a model I'm currently doing for my da. That is, the Airfix Avro Vulcan, specifically XH558.

I'm not gonna get into this deeply, but IMO the Airfix Vulcan is very poor. I'm guessing this is because of their recent take-over but this model is no-where near the models I made as a kid. The joining of the wings alone was painful, to say the least.

Anyway..... here's the model after a primer coat.

    Ahhh... The Vulcan.

I remember being 'buzzed' at low level by a Vulcan with its after-burner on... My god that gave off some heat even when on the ground.

Be interested in how it looks when done. Was thinking of getting a couple for a Cold War scenario...

Well you can tell your Da it scared the bejaybus outta us! Came over a hill behind us at treetop height. Thing with the Vulcan is you dont hear it coming.

Came right over us, hit the afterburners and went straight up... Amazing sight.

Almost as good as being buzzed at low level by a Spitfire.

The Vulcan wing joints were always a bad fit IIRC but there is stuff you can do to jazz it up, probably a little too late but are you aware of this?

    http://www.twomikesresin.com/index1.html

and also flightpath make a photo etch fret for it.

Ive just bought one myself although its the old molding with the blue steel missile, I know its annoying but, really its the only game in town if you want to do a 1/72 scale vulcan.

@nanktank: yeah, the wings were a real pain to do, no locating lugs or anything, TBH it's kind of a joke.... but I digress. Yeah, its a bit late for those things, but thanks anyway.

The plan is to have it done as a surprise Xmas present, will post pics of the updates later today! And also the model the Gf painted (I think it actually really good, but will let ye decide )

So here the progress on 558...

It might be hard to see, but the outline of the camo has been done in pencil.

Also, was wondering as to what colours should be used (G.W ones). Am thinking something like Catachan Green, and Codex Grey. Opinions peepz?

And here is the Wood Elf the girlfriend painted.

This was the first time she ever painted any model, and given the detail on the model itself, I think she did a pretty class job! Anyone agree or disagree?

Why not buy the actual colors from a hobby shop? IIRC RAF Sea Gray and Dark Green would be the colors needed. Humbrol makes them in either acrylic or enamel.

    So here's the pre-photo updates.

558: The colours have started to be applied. Hate it when the company themselves doesn't even give you the colours they tell you to use!

Elf: A base/plinth thing has been started to display it on.

Re: Why Pariah's Projects are always delayed....

    Little midnight update.

Green finished on the Vulcan, and am working on the grey ATM.
Plinth has been given a coat of varnish, and awaiting the second.

Note to anyone thinking of getting the Vulcan, leave the nose probe off until the end. Its a pain otherwise, and breaks all the time! Grrrr........

Re: Why Pariah's Projects are always delayed....

    Update:

The Vulcan has been given a coat of Humbrol DecalFix in preparation for the decals.

Edit: Just applying some decals here, and they are painful. No decal numbers, decals shown are wrong. Airfix, what has happened to you

Edit Edit: turns out DecalFix has a tendency to make Citadel paint crack, and go white. Why? :/

    OOh, glossy!

Is Humbrol decalfix just a glosscote then?

Also does this kit have raised panel lines? Looks nice, but I don't fancy redoing all those panels...
