Started painting the first squad and I thought I,d share. Also this is the first post I,be done entirely using my new mobile. Hope it works! Lol

Just done the basic metal colour. Boltgun metal with a black wash. Then drybrushed with Boltgun metal and mithril silver. Then another thin black wash. Might do a very fine drybrush of mithril again before I start the red.

Small update. A little more to this squad and you can see a bit more what they're gonna look like. I may add a small amount of bronze or brass effect to them somewhere. The icon for one definitely.

Would love to hear some comments.

Good but, I think those red rims or whatever they are need a highlight, just my opinion. Or you could put some wash on to them as well. They look a bit "Not ready" to my eyes. Good work tho!

cheers guys. I know what you mean dreff, the red looks a little flat in these pics. Its not so bad in real life but it didn't show very well in the pic, bit dark too. I think i may have gotten too close with the camera. I'll try a group shot and see if that helps show them off a bit better.

Agreed on the red, it does look kinda flat in these pics. But the darkness does suit them, I really don't think you should be creating a cartoony look for these.
Besides, the plagueish red cancer (or whatever it is) is looking good, and really adds to the overall 'plain' look of them.

    Nice work,

Yeah the idea was to keep them dark and grim (grim dark?) Not at all cartoony. The red splashes on the armour is supposed to be blood spray. But I agree the red was a little flat. I have since added another wash to try to help this. I don't want to highlight them up too much. They do look better for it I think. The other half of the squad is nearly ready so hopefully tomorrow eve I can share some more pics with you all.

    Until tomorrow,

Thanks kresterz. Don't think anyone else had notice that small detail. It was a big mash of Japanese Chinese and manga influence on the dragons. There are several other characters on the models, I hope they all mean what I think they do. I have very little knowledge of the Chinese language or written form. Other than what I learnt doing those marines.
Those characters a very challenging to paint though LOL

    update!

finished the first squad now (other than the champion, still waiting for bits from chapterhouse for them). I think these pics came out a bit better to. All the blood spray bits and the possessed flesh looking bits have been gloss varnished so they have a nice sticky look you cant really see here.

that red looks way better, the shading on it is cool, bit too much flash on the top pic though

last but not least an alternative angle of the other bolter dudes

While i'm here and i had the camera out i thought id share a few pics of the daemon prince i made years ago for an old khorne army. This is the only model from that army that i was really proud of, most were rushed and i've gotten alot better since.

still looks pretty cool i think.

Thats all for now folks, any comments greatly received.

    cheers

Yeah he used to be a killer. Chaos needs a New dex. I turned the flash off after the first pic, I got a good amount of light by standing the models on a mirror with my white light lamp on them.
