I believe I can fly I believe I can touch the sky, I think about.....

Boreas you are a legend, that airship is a beast! I see you have painted a whole regiment of reiksguard too since I have last checked your plog (they look cool). You are really flying through this army now (I know, shoot me!) cant wait to see more.

P.S, I would find it hard to resist trying to pop that balloon with my sculpting tool

One more thing do you think a sniper would look good on that beast or at least someone throwing empty beer bottles over the side onto unsuspecting enemy generals.

I think that having something a bit more comical would be in order... Though I think that throwing Empty Beer Bottles would be a bit useless against most anything, try and find something funny to add to it. Like, once a turn, during the shooting phase, you can release something like 3D6 Pigeon Bombs at the enemy from it, and can only fire crew-carried weapons for the rest of that turn. That would be awesome.

I suppose your right Brother, but dont underestimate the power of an empty beer bottle, ive seen quite a lot of damage done by them in my local boozer! Good idea about having a special comical rule. Having seen the landship's calamity chart you could have a right laugh inventing some rules for when it meets its demise. Either that or you could use it as a "counts as = Pegasus"

Re: 'Crazily Religious' and 'Technologically Advanced'; An army of the Empire (Stirla

Thank you all very much for the load of (very good) feedback!

Hmm, how about 'Boreas von Donnerhosen's Marvellous Majestic Mellifluous Personal Aerial Conveyance and Pugilistic Platform Extraordinaire'?
Very nice! Especially the 'Donnerhosen' part! That one is going to stick around!

Boreas von Donnerhosen's Marvellous Majestic Mellifluous Personal Aerial Conveyance of Agitated and Spasmodic Cloud-faring (and Pugilistic Platform Extraordinaire)

Why take just one of them?

On a different note: Stunning and inspirational work, Boreas! Both here and in the Mordheim thread. Your work on the buildings is a great help for my own terrain work, and this thread is making me want to start working on my own Empire army again
Thanks! I had (and still have) a lot of fun, working on both the Mordheim and Empire stuff...

    this looks awesome!!

i love the air ship...i need something like it for my dwarfs or so..
    really loving this conversion..
Thanks! You could build one yourself, just check out the example of the Dwarf Airschip. You already built a very cool Dwarf Steam Tank so an Airship would be the logical next step. If you do, we must meet and fight a battle for the Warhammer skies!

So apart from the one guy who gets to steer the ship, will everybody else be toting guns? Or are you going to do a few trying to skewer something as they float by?

I think a pirate-ish monkey or parrot would go well as well.

Have you tried doing a rope ladder? That way it could lie on the ballon, without adding a great deal of bulk.
Thanks! I've already found one of the Empire Powder Monkeys and found even more crewmembers to populate the Airship. Most of the crew are modelled to be on look-out duty, they will act as spotters for my artillery.

Issa got an idear for the name of the invention as a whole:

[Insert Inventing Engineer's name here]'s Splendiforous ship of Gaseous Mainsailing.

Basically, I tried to take a note from the Empire book with that.

But, for this individual machine, I would go for something along the lines of a bird, like:

The Avian, The Imperial Hippogryph, The lead Cloud, or something more religousy, like Sigmar's Deliverance, Avenging Angel, Ulric's Hammer (if you're into that)

Or, you could also use a name that combines Fluff and Games, and after the first game you use it in, you could make a reference to the oddest thing that it did/ happened to it. Something along the lines of:

[again, your Engineer's name]'s Rat smasher, Sigmarite Fireworks, The Flying Pig, and, most notably, The Count's New Toy.

I hope these help, I really came up with them on the spot, but I hope you enjoy them.
Thanks! Those suggestions are very, very nice! The Count's New Toy is definately one to consider.

Thanks! I've made some decent progress lately... The balloon is actually quite sturdy as it is made out of hard plastic. I figure you would need at least a Bolt Thrower to pop that balloon...

Thanks! I'm a BIG fan of Pigeon Bombs and your suggestion has been around in my head (and in the head of my regular opponent) for quite some time now. Around here 'Rookoo' is the sound of DOOOOOOM!!!

    And now some update!

I've found some more time to put some paint on the Airship so here are a few wip's... Just for these pictures I put the model back together, for painting purposes several parts are kept separate.

An overview of the entire model... Most of the basic paint is done.

The Cockpit... Still needs a lot of detailing but I'm getting close (you have to love Devlan Mud)...

The front of the Airship with the boiler... The Engineer looks like he was made to be there. He needs a repaint though as he was painted for my old Empire Army (several years ago, sadly never truly finished). The basket with coal is still optional, but I like it so it might get to stay. The Airship is already very crowded, but with the addition of more crew and more bits like the basket it will become even more chaotic...

    More updates coming soon!

Thanks for watching! As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think, and, if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to rate my thread...

Amazing! Now that we have some close-ups it's easy to see all the cool bitz you've incorporated here. Where, may I ask, did you get a large bucket of coal with a shovel? Or a whole boiler, for that matter?

Thanks! The basket of coal is from the Siege Defenders set (I think) and the shovel is from the Helblaster kit. The boiler was largely scratch built as you can see on the pictures below...

The only parts that I didn't make myself are the exhausts... The main exhaust is from the metal Steam Tank and the other (at least the top part) is from a Citadel scenery kit... The rest of the boiler is all just plasticard, superglue and a lot of patience!

I will post a few more wip shots as most of these were done before I started my Stirland thread. They can also be found in my Mordheim thread, but this will save you the trouble of looking for them.

Thanks for watching! As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think, and, if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to rate my thread...

As promised, here are a bunch more wip shots of the Airship... Most of these pics (and more) can be found in my Mordheim thread.

First up are a few pics of the cockpit.

A beverage holder (patent pending) especially designed for holding a flask of hot ale... No self respecting Stirland Engineer should go without!

Apart from the steering wheel, one of the levers and the icon pole, the whole thing is made from plasticard, plastic tubes and rods...

Next post contains some wip shots of the ship itself...

Here are a few wip shots of the ship itself...

Just the basic shape... All scratch built, just a lot of plasticard. All the planks were cut and detailed by hand.

The Airship combined with the boiler and cockpit...

The Airship with the wings attached...

The wings as seen from below...

Thanks! The army is coming along nicely. To be honest, I never expected to get this far...

    You are insane.

No i got nothing more! :P

Thanks! I must agree with you on the insanity part

More updates are coming soon. The Airship has seen a lot more paint and the cockpit and rudder are now completely finished (and quite smelly from the wash of Devlan Mud)! I'm currently working on the wings and the hull of the Airship (a big surface to cover). Next is the balloon and the crew will be last...

I'm also prowling Ebay again for some more parts/models for my army (my poor wallet) and I've made a little progress on my two Master Engineers who will both be fielded on a 40mm square base (as a kind of mini diorama).

Thanks for watching! As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think, and, if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to rate my thread...
