Wow, that thing looks huge! Between your V2 and this I can't see much getting in the way of your Empire force :P On the flip side your counts coffers must be pretty weightless at the moment. Seriously though brilliant job, I can't wait to see your army finished. It will look spectacular!

That airship is one of coolest models I have seen on warseer. I cant wait to see some paint on it.

Oh that is very nifty. I was thinking a longer balloon, but this actually feels nicer.

The bits that empire have available to them from all those kits keeps amazing me. Add to that your own hobby skills, and voila.

Is it quite steady though? I recently made something with thin wooden bits, and it isn't that stable. This looks awesome, but quite fragile?

    @Lt Dougheim: Paint? Boreas? Ha.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Wow, it's like whacky races for the 21st Century!

    nice! :@)
Thanks! Whacky should be the appropriate word here...

Absolutely incredible, one of the coolest things I've ever seen here!
What kind of detailing do you have planned for the balloon? Any ornamental metalwork?
Thanks! The lines running over the balloon will get some rivets (oh no, more rivets) and the patches will be painted green and white in an alternate pattern.

That airship is one of coolest models I have seen on warseer. I cant wait to see some paint on it.
Thanks! As soon as the model is finished I'll undercoat it and get some paint on it...

    @Lt Dougheim: Paint? Boreas? Ha.
Thanks! I have thought about using a zeppelin as a balloon, but in the end this proved more practical.
The construction is actually quite steady, the chains keep the balloon in 'perfect' balance. I might add another hose to the boiler and balloon for some extra support though. Plasticard is quite sturdy.
About the paint, I've painted two units, a Giant and a Rocket Battery last few months...

    More updates coming soon!
Check out my Mordheim scenery! NOW! I mean... Please... Only if you want to of course...
Get your ale while it's still hot! And discover why Stirland should rule The Empire...

I`ve seen the model real life, yesterday. It`s not as flimsy as one might expect with something that big. Actually, it`s rather sturdy. I don`t know how he did it, but that is the real prestige. And making it look jawdroppingly gorgeous, that too.

    Anyways, can it realy fly??

Bravo! Stunning! Motivational. Really, I can't say enough nice things about your log. As a hobbiest, I'm impressed by your work and creativity.

So.....what do you use to cut your plastic card? Do you have a snazzy mat cutter that we never see, or do you just have a very steady hand?

You should have used one of those balls with electricity bolts inside

Thanks! As sturdy as it was, I've added another hose to the balloon to give it some extra support. The whole model is in perfect balance... Sadly no, it can't fly...

So.....what do you use to cut your plastic card? Do you have a snazzy mat cutter that we never see, or do you just have a very steady hand?
I use regular plasticard in several thicknesses. The woodgrain is something I made myself.

These are the tools I use when working on the plasticard. A regular geometry triangle and hobby knife. The woodgrain is made with the other tool, a hobby gauge...

man i would kill for one of those... excellent work...
Thanks! It took quite a while but I'm quite pleased with the result.

As an Empire player, I'm always stoked to see such creative 'engineering'. Well done!
Thanks! If I only could make the thing work...

And now it's time for another update...

I've finished construction and detailing of the Airship. I finished the crew and even made a base. Yesterday I added about 700 rivets to the balloon (thats only the balloon, in total the Airship has about 2000 rivets). In short: the thing is DONE! After I've finsihed this post I'll undercoat it and start painting...

Awesome work here, Boreas. Could you give us a scale shot?
Thanks! One scale shot coming up...

Here's a scale shot with the largest plastic model in the Empire range, the Steam Tank (still a wip) and one of the Duelists... As you can see, the Airship is BIG!

A close-up shot of the balloon and the base of the crows nest...

The base of the Airship... I opted for this approach because is simple, safe and stable... The Airship is simply placed on top of these four supports. Thanks to the balance of the model it doesn't need any glue...

Pics of the crew coming in the next post...

Thanks for watching! As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think, and, if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to rate my thread...

Re: 'Crazily Religious' and 'Technologically Advanced'; An army of the Empire (Stirla

Sorry for the double post, but there were just too many pics... Here are some more pics of the crew...

I've modelled six crewmembers, mostly plastic. I used several kits: Empire Archers, Helblaster crew, Steam Tank Engineer. The only metal model is from the old Helblaster, he just got a headswap.

I wanted the emphasis of the crew and the funtion of the Airship to be reconnaissance. In games I want them to act as spotters for my artillery (like in the American Civil War and WWI). Hence, most of the models have some sort of binoculars.

    The helmsman...

    The gunner...

    One of the spotters...

Two of the spotters in the crows nest...

And two crew in a slightly crowded cockpit...

Thanks for watching! As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think, and, if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to rate my thread...
