I intend to, although I'll first have to finish a few models so I can actually post something .
I will keep the bases in mind, probably not for my empire, but they could be usefull for some other project I am planning. Thanks for the offer!

Anyway, great work on the models, and the airship is quite amazing. Is to be expected from the creator of that great Mordheim board I guess!

Thanks for all the great feedback!

This log reeks of brilliance! I love it! Airship? I want one to paint... mmmm...
Brilliance? I thought I smelled something different ... Thanks!

A small update, but one with a little paint (which, for me, is rather something)...

I've finished my Greatsword Captain. All he needed was a little detailing, but the result is rather satisfying nonetheless.

From the back... The red plumes on the hats are rather distinctive and should be noticable througout the entire army.

And I 'finished' my next unit... A mob of Flagellants! Now at 20 models, the unit is large enough for smaller games, but in larger games it should/will be bumped up to 30 models, the maximum unit size...

These guys still need some details added (their sprues are stuffed to bursting point with loads of cool bits), but the unit is battle ready.

And a new unit means a new unit filler! This one still needs chains and some major detailing but you should be able to get the general idea... In case you do not, he's supposed to be pulling the statue.

As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think, and, if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to rate my thread...

    Thanks for the feedback!

This thread is amazing. Where did you get that little cart thing?
Thanks! The little cart is from the set Siege Defenders. Sadly, it's no longer available, I could use another set...

    Small update!

I've painted the champion of my unit of Outriders... He's armed with a Hochland longrifle, with his BS of 5 (even better than a Master Engineer) he should be able to make some use of that. Maybe it's much more effective to equip him with a regular Repeater Handgun, but the Longrifle gives me the option to snipe unit champions, Characters, War Machine crew and the like, furthermore, it looks cool...

The wash of Devlan Mud still hasn't dried properly in some places, but here's a picture nonetheless.

Here he is again, together with his unit...

The Steamcoach does fit the unit nicely. They look like the problem solvers they are, riding to the aid of the embattled State Troopers (or so I imagine). Now models are able to fire in two ranks, larger units like this are more easily manouverable. Still, it's a shame they can't move and fire...

This looks awesome. Thumbs up from me good sir.

I might steal some of your ideas if I ever come around to build my Empire army up. Some of these things are too good to pass up. =p

Re: 'Crazily Religious' and 'Technologically Advanced'; An army of the Empire (Stirla

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Here's a quick update...

I've dug up a box containing loads of really old (Empire, Chaos, DoW) miniatures. And in that box I also found a handful the old Empire Spearmen...

I even found one that was undercoated, so I decided to modernise him a little and get him painted as a test... I gave his spear a new tip, gave him a new plume on his hat and equipped him with one of the new shields. As I found a complete unit of 20 models (mostly unpainted and in reasonable condition) most of them will get their heads swapped for some of the current ones to make them fit in better and also add some diversity.

Sadly, most of the highlights can't be seen on the picture, the colours look a bit 'flat'... The red and green are much more vibrant. I'm quite satisfied with the result though (Devlan Mud is your friend)...

What do you think? Are these old Spearmen still good enough to fit in with the current range of Empire models (including some headswaps and a little more modernisation)? I do like Spearmen and I could use a small unit (20) in my army...

Together with his painted pals... He doesn't look too out of place here, does he?

As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think, and, if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to rate my thread...

May I say that this thread is a real pleasure to behold!

I am now 13.2% happier having read it!

I love your ideas and though some aren't necessarily original, they are brilliantly executed.

it's the small touches that I enjoy the most... you bsb receiving an urgent letter for the frontlines, the engineers tables and the flag's filler is a great idea.

What gauge of chain are you going to use? and if you dont mind me asking, where do you get your modelling chain? I cant find any decent places locally and I'm looking for a very fine oval loop chain for some lovely dirty chaos abominations

I especially like your outriders filler, the 'steam coach'.

cannot wait to see your marvellous men in their flying machine complete [I love that you even have presure lines to the hydrolic rams on the wings... but where are the return lines? :? sorry, I'm an aircraft engineer, hehe]

Could you show us those old Chaos minis? I like the empire, but I have an Old Miniature Complex, meaning I have to see old miniatures made by GW, because they are awesome.

Back on track, I like how the older models fit in with the newer ones and the ones from Mordheim, but I have to implore you... PAINT YOUR WAGON!!!

Nah just kiddin, they do look good. keep on working on one unit. A whole unit looks even better. Keep concentrated.

Re: 'Crazily Religious' and 'Technologically Advanced'; An army of the Empire (Stirla

This is not an update, but I like the models so much I'm willing to make an exception

Could you show us those old Chaos minis? I like the empire, but I have an Old Miniature Complex, meaning I have to see old miniatures made by GW, because they are awesome.
Sure... I just dug up some of the old Chaos miniatures (I have even more, these were just the first few I could get my hands on just now)... Most of them are painted, absolute rubbish paint job, but you must forgive the sixteen (or so) year old me... Most of these I've had for a very long time but I still consider them amongst the best sculpts around. Most of them were aquired by mail order (ah the good old days, plenty of models to choose from and always too little cash). Sadly, most are no longer available today. The Warriors have been fighting all the way throught fifth, sixth, and even a part of seventh edition (those models make excellent Chosen Warriors). I stopped playing Chaos after the split up between Mortals, Beasts and Deamons.

I can't stress enough the abysmal quality of the paint job! Please formive me...

A small paint test I did when I was thinking about (re)starting a Chaos Army... The model was updated with a new shield and a new axe. I never got to the rest of the army, but this model was nice to convert and paint...

That's all for now, but I promiss I'll get back on the feedback as soon as possible...

Ah, old Chaos Warriors... Back in the day, I recall, the Ruinous Powers seemingly demanded anyone willing to fight in Chaos Armour had to give up their neck and much of their ability to stand upright.

Great work so far, this is rapidly becoming one of the most inspiring Empire logs on here. I also cannot believe you've got a Necromunda scavvy dog, I've been hunting those for years (after thinking, when they were released, 'nah, I'll never want one of them...').

As promised, some feedback on the feedback

May I say that this thread is a real pleasure to behold!

I am now 13.2% happier having read it!

Thanks! You're 13.2% happier? That's odd, I was aiming for a nice 10% The unit fillers are really cool to build and make the army that much more interesting... Furthermore they give me te option of using some models that would otherwise go unused.

I don't know what kind of chain I want (I'll know it when I see it), but we have a very nice model store in a nearby town, I'll probably find something usefull there. For my scenery (check my Mordheim thread, page 29 to be precise) I mostly use LEGO chains, plastic and very easy to use, but too big for this kind of work (maybe it'll work on your Chaos stuff, they tend to be a bit bigger than Empire soldiers). As soon as I have some smaller chain, I'll post some pictures of it and the finished unit filler.

As for the return lines, I hadn't thought of that. Good point! If I can put them on, I certainly will! Thanks!

your spearmen don't look out of place indeed, i believe i still have some of them lying around somewhere as well (from the orcs vs empire starter kit a few years back.. 6th ed i think? i have no clue i was just starting out)
Thanks! Those models are still really nice, even more so considering their age. If you ever want to 'lose' them, (and they are in good shape) let me know...

Boreas, are you possesd by a deamon? You really are painting?

Nah just kiddin, they do look good. keep on working on one unit. A whole unit looks even better. Keep concentrated.
Thanks! Concentration? You do know who you are talking to, right... Nah, you're probably right anyway... I just have to decide which unit to paint first. Probably Greatswords (those models are just soooo nice)...

Ah, old Chaos Warriors... Back in the day, I recall, the Ruinous Powers seemingly demanded anyone willing to fight in Chaos Armour had to give up their neck and much of their ability to stand upright.

The old Quasimodo built Chaos warriors, you've got to love them...
The dog was a 'gift' from FBI (the previous poster)... I think it used to be a Doom Wolf (or at least something undead). It really fits the character of the unit, even more so with his new collar.

Thanks for all the great feedback! More Empire stuff coming soon!

Wonderfull stuff, I don't believe I can add anything that hasn't been said already.

I'm working on a Steampunk/Dieselpunk Grot Army and would very much like to know where you got the plasticard? used on the airship?
Please don't say you carved it all yourself

I'm keeping an eye on this,

Thanks! I really hate to tell you, but that's exactly what I did... It's just strips of plasticard (cut from a larger sheet), carved to resemble wood. It was a hell of a job, but the result is worth it.

As a kind of update, here are two pics of what I got today...

I managed to find these online (lang leve marktplaats, for all you Dutch people), as well as a nice Warrior Priest, a plastic General of the Empire and two Valten's (don't ask, you'll see). A very nice catch! These 10 Greatswords are just enough to bump my unit up to 40... The Cannon will be the second in my army, not always, only when I feel like it, and the model will be cool to build. There is more on the way, I managed to get a very nice old style halberd wielding Champion... And you thought the internet was only good for one thing (and what do you think he did after...)

I found these two bags of model chain (couldn't decide in the shop, so bought them both) for use with my Flagellant unit filler. They had quite a selection and it was hard to just narrow it down to those two. I'll experiment a little and get you some pics asap.

I also found a clear plastic rod to use in my base for the Airship. Expect some updates on that soon... I just hope my chariot base is big and stable enough.

As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think, and, if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to rate my thread...
