    Hammer49's Imperial blog

I have many different SM force and an imperial guard army under way, and this thread will show my progress. I had been previously posting under the general 40k forum.
Mainly this log will cover Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Dark Angels.
    Still very much W.I.P

I like the metallics on the Sanguinary guard, it came out looking alot like a buffed iron in colour.

I would suggest that you give your Assault marines helmets a wash of Gryphonne sepia, though, it will bring out the yellow of the helmet.

Thanks. I think it looks more of a light bronze, but I can see what yo mean.

The wash sounds like a good idea!

Just spent the evening putting the rest of the blood angels together. So should be painting 10 sanguinary guard in the near future.

Nice, nice. I hope that your flesh and cloth colours come out as good as your bronze did.

I like the red shade a lot. Especially on the shoulderpads, where flat surfaces are hard to get right.

I am accepting commissions for Forgeworld building. I know many of you may love Forgeworld, but I'd just love to get my hands on something just to build it, you can keep it. You don't even have to pay me! Just for the product!

Thanks Shortsonfire. The red was done by (for my own reference as well):
    Undercoat Chaos Black
2-3 Thin coats of mechrite red
    1 Wash with badab black
2 thin coats of blood red in the centre of the armour plates.
Wash of Ogryn wash on the red

Heres what Im planning on painting for the army presently.
Not in this pic are two land raiders, 5 Sanguinary guard, 10 tactical marines using the death company plastic boxed set, and 10 assault marines.

    Re: Hammer49's Imperial blog

This is what I have been doing so far this weekend. I havent done as much painting as I would have liked as I have been putting together 30 grey hunters for my SW, and deathcompany for BA.
The Rhino is for a tactical squad that I have ready primed and ready to go.

The Rhino decals are shiny as I have gloss varnished them. Once I have put some highlights down and finished the metallics I will go over the whole model with purity seal.

The beginnings of my Baal predator. I had forgotten how difficult it can be to get a smooth red over a big area. I think I achieved it, but I can certainly see why people use airbrushes.

I have also base coated a terminator squad. Some of my favourite SM models.

I have nearly fininshed with my first assault squad just need to sort out the weapons and the chest eagle, and I think Im pretty much there. The red in this pic is slightly misleading as it looks more like the rhino in the first pic irl.

Look forward to hearing your comments.

    Looking good Hammer.

I was going to ask if you used an airbrush for the tanks but see that you didn't. Very nice work getting such a smooth finish. I've got two landraiders ready to go but won't touch them till I get an airbrush.

    Cheers

Thanks Emilio. I think I may have to consider an airbrush in the future. I will be starting some Land raiders my self shortly.

    Re: Hammer49's Imperial blog

Have still been working on my DA. Recently been experimenting with airbrush.

Heres some tanks and a few more to follow- 4 razorbacks/rhinos as not intending to glue them fully together! The vindicator dozer blades will be done in black with yellow hazard markings... hence the reason the undercoat is still showing through. Everything is still very much wip.. as the vindicators need a wash of badab black/nuln oil to darken them up a little.. the landraiders some golden sepia shading... and the BA are only up to the first basecoat stage!

Have also today received my tartaros Terminators to add to my deathwing army.

I have also been working on some BA to maybe includes as allies! Also happens to be how i first found dark angels and also blood angels, as they were combined in the first codex i ever got!
