Re: Blood Angels, Orks and other 40k

I thought it'd be interesting to show you how random I am at my hobby work. Despite being part way through my warboss and Badrukk, I've also been slowly finishing an ork mob (mainly skin and cloth highlights left now).

Not content with painting, I'm also building more boyz, some nobz to lead my slugga mobs (which will be painted after the shoota boyz I've not even built yet!) and have finished my second squadron of Deffcoptas - all converted to have Big Shootas. I also did my spare one (I had seven - don't recall why) as a conversion I wanted to do, where the TL Rokkits are on pylons, and that gave me the excuse to put a Big Bomb (Actually a huge heavy rokkit that flops to the ground) in the nose. Yesterday I also built my first 5 Storm Boys and enjoyed it greatly.

Now, this is just Ork stuff, I have recently built some Marine Dreadnoughts and Baal Predators and lots of fantasy stuff. Does anybody else find that they are very erratic in building and painting all sorts at the same time as something takes your fancy?

Re: Blood Angels, Orks and other 40k

Well I finished those two Nobs and the Boys, but forgot to photo them. Ah well. Anyway here's a WIP of Kaptin Badrukk - just his coat and the boney teethy stuff and the twine that holds them to finish now. He's kinda stalled actually because I can't decide exactly what colour to do the coat - and due to the location of the other parts on the collar, I need to do the coat before the other bits. I'm thinking of a liche purple and scorched brown mix, and then just keep adding kommando khaki til it's finished, but then I can't tell if I want a cloth or a leather look to it - and thus how shiny it is and therefore how much the highlights need to contrast with the darkest areas. Any thoughts?Click image for larger version.

Re: Blood Angels, Orks and other 40k

Well I finally finished Badrukk. I opted for the same brown colour as on my other cloth. I also have made good progress on the other Nobs in the army - here's one that's finished. The other 21 are mostly base-coloured and needing a wash before all the highlights start. You may see a lot of similar looking models in this thread lol.

Anyway, an interesting figure I was inspired to do, was a Grey Knights Grand Master conversion that could also be used as Mordrak. It uses Draigo as a base (included to compare) with just a set of halberd arms fitted with a hammer head, and a head and banner swap. So fast and simple. The armour is awaiting the rest of the model to be finished before receiving a silver highlight so looks a little bland so far. The face is painted in my usual method but looks a little stark so may alter it - though lips, and darker recesses around the eyes are yet to be done, and the hood will help I'm sure. The gold again is half-way through, awaiting it's final highlight later in the process.

With metallics forming most of the model I painted them first, but because they rub off easier than normal paint, I'm leaving the final stages of highlighting til last, as all the edges of the model will likely wear to black primer before completion.
