Thank you!
I'm glad you like it! I've learned a lot from this experiment and I'm sure I'll be able to learn even more as I continue to work on the terminators to accompany him!
I think it's because his arms are bluetacced on at this moment. Once I make the final connection to the torso it should look better. I needed to have access to the entire torso to finish of the details so that's why they where bluetacced!
Glad you like them, Ash!

While waiting for tools I need for my terminators I've been doodling around with my contemptor, trying to work out the kinks in the scheme. I've settled on using patterns similar to those shown in the IA book (i.e. Maori tattoo patterns). So far I've been able to produce this:
More to come as soon as I have something new to show!
My random Horus Heresy Ramblings (with a bit of Blood Angel Successors at the start) - "The Imperial Addiction"!
Wow! That's truely an awesome contemptor! I was a bit reluctant about it when you first showed it - it looked way to dark I think. But with these extra details I can see it's coming along nicely! Hope you update soon!
Maori tattoo patterns are fantastic and they really suit your contemptor!
These are some awesome models. You have a talent for converting and your models really have a great character. Your painting is very well done, I love the tattoo's, and the colour scheme pulls everything together. I shall be watching this plog with a lot of interest.

I'm glad you like it better now!
Yes, I think the patterns compliment each other very nicely and gives the miniature a needed breath of life.
Thanks a lot, Punkfish! Kind words from another experienced and skilled hobbyist is always welcomed and pushes me to intensify my projects as much as possible!

I haven't had a lot of time available to paint lately but I've made some progress on Tyberos (most of which haven't been shown here earlier). When I did the freehand pattern on the hand I decided that "glow" was the thing lacking to pull off the yellow power blade effect on the lightning claws so I decided to give it a go (not that experienced in painting glow effects, but not having access to an airbrush forces you to improvise). Some time later the pictures below was the result. A lot of trial and error here but I think it's pretty convincing for most parts. Now I just need to get some blood splatter on the chainblades (and perhaps a tiny tiny amount on the blades). I guess I have to start to consider some battle damage also to fit with the theme (sorry about the badly edited and busy picture):
The head is a FW World Eater head with the bunny ears shaved off. I just wanted to see how it would look on him. Still debating the head somewhat. I'll come to a conclusion soon enough I believe.

Love your work Leo.
That dread rendition is rather interesting, I love the freehand split colour concept and you have executed it well indeed.

Dark Angels - 5/2/1.
Chaos - 1/0/0.
This is four-letter expletive-ing amazing. That starfield/Maori-patterned dread is crazy, and the new head for the Red Wake is a great fit.

I like the head.
As always fantastic work.
Maybe we could get a updated group shot ?

I agree. While the other heads I had concidered (and I have concidered many heads throughout the building of the miniature) looked good it lacked a certain something that I felt the miniature needed. I've finally arrived at a combination of pieces that I believe trumps the original miniature!
Thanks a lot, mate! It's been a battle to get the colour combination right since both colours are pretty dark. But putting in the freehands helped to make the difference pop and come through.
Thanks, unwanted! You get somewhat crazy painting those patterns, they are definitely a good test of character (read: Patience). There have been a lot of cursing in my apartment lately.
I did take a group shot some time ago of the Brethren. I haven't finished anything for them since that point so I guess this could do for now. I don't have a good set-up for army pics though so the quality is rather shoddy

I need to do battle damage on Tyberos armour. There also is no blood splatter or effects on him. I want some on his face (in the grills and splashed over one eye) and I want a tiny amount on the claws and some more on the chainfists - hopefully it won't ruin the miniature... I've ordered some Tamiya Clear Red that I'm going to do some test runs with in different mixes to see if I can get what I'm looking for.
I'm having doubts about the sculpted shoulder pad icon. I'm leaning towards maybe scraping it off and painting one on instead. A freehand would probably look better on the miniature, thoughts?

That's a lovely looking army!
The Tyberios model is looking great, the power claws are a good contrast to the model and the freehand is as good as ever.
Re the icon - I like the way it stands out from the overall darkness of the armour but I can see why you have misgivings. What sort of design would you put in its place?

I was thinking of painting a shark there in the same kind of style as the patterns, but I left it alone for now having so many other projects to finish I thought it would be better to keep on trucking. I can always go back and redo that shoulderpad later on should I want to.

So, here's the finished piece, my own version of Tyberos the Red Wake. Overall I'm very happy with the finished result. I have some minor things that I'd like to add or change in the future (such as more battle damage) but I think I need to relax for a while now and not overthink the process:
Hopefully I'll have something new to show soon!

That is some stunning stuff!! The tattoo type freehand additions on the armour are amazing!

That Tyberos is one of the best models I've seen. I've seen more complicated conversions and better painting (not saying you aren't top notch!) but this model actually looks scary! The way the colours go together gives this guy some intensity that I don't see in most models. Excellent work!

yeh I agree, that Tyberos is really good. REALLY good. You're one of the few artists here who really inspires me!!

Wow...these are awesome, that Tyberos has to be the coolest termie character I have seen in a while.
Could you PLEASE give us a tutorial on how you did his claws! they look stunning.
your work is inspiring, never stop.

I second that request for the tutorial on the claws.
As for the icon - Having now seen the finished model, I think it provides a good contrast to the rest of the figure so I think you should keep it as is.
Great model though and it fits the background very well
