    Painting a Renegade Ogryn

    I have always been a massive fan of the forgeworld renegade models but never felt like collecting an entire force. While at the 2010 UK games day I managed to pick up one of the renegade ogryns, specificly the one below, with the intent of just painting it up as a display piece:

    During the Xmas period, while sorting out my many ongoing projects and decided it was time to paint this figure up.

    This log will be more of a paint in progress for a single figure from start to finish, instead of a full army.
    Also I'll try to make note of all the painting stages and techniques i use if anybody is interested.

    Without further ado:

    First of all for all of those who have not worked with resin, it is importent to wash all the peices in warm soapy water.
    This removes any residual mold release still on the model. If this is left the paint will not stick to the model and will rub off and chip very easily.
    The Forgeworld minitures are ususaly very well cast, this one had a few air pockets that had to be filled in with green stuff before priming and spraying with black undercoat.

    Base coats:
    The hood was undercoated with a 3-1 mix of Dheneb stone and charadon granite.
    The trousers are painted with pure catachan green.
    The skin was painted with a 1-1 mix of charadon granite and graveyard earth.
    Finaly the plates are painted with pure vermin brown.

    More will follow later tonight.
    Comment, questions and criticism is always welcome.

    Bare with the slow progress, only managed to get the hood and the skin done today:

    hood was painted by adding increasng amounts of skull white to the basecoat and building it up in many layers.

    Next up will be the armour plates and the metalics

    Smashing work so far, all the different elements of the model are coming together rather well.

    A question though, how did you do that gorgeous rust?

    @Mr Feral:
    The method I use to create the rust is dead simple.
    1) basecoat the area in Vermin Brown
    2) stipple random patches of Fiery Orange

    3) using masking fluid, apply a thin coat to the areas that rust will form (usually the edges and places likly to be scratched).

    4) paint a top coat of paint to resemble paint on the origional piece of metal. here I used Adeptus Battlegrey and Fenris grey. I tried to make it look like the metal had come from an imperial tank.

    5) rub off the masking fluid with a stuff brush.
    6) to get the worn metallics edges, simple rub over them with a pencil

    @Kathie von Vhoorl

    skin tones were painted with basecoat of 2-1 graveyard earth and charadon granite. For the highlights increasing amounts of elf flesh was added to the basecoat.
    The whole area was glazed (15-1 water-paint) with multiple layers of dark greens, reds, blues, purples. concentrating the darker shades in the recesses and the reds around the prominent skin wounds

    The brand of masking fluid I use is Humbrol Maskol, got it from a local art supply shop but it's easy enough to find on the internet.

    That's awesome. Love the realistic, yet grim painting style.
    Any chance you'll be doing any tutorials on your techniques? I'd love to know more on how you do the skin.
