    Hairy's Plog of...well projects...

    Hi all,

For the new year I have decided to compile my plogs together into one to make it easier for me to update them and it just keeps everything together in one place.

I have been slowly working on some Warcanto Lidd figs which you can see in more detail here. I still have a Dwarf to paint and am sure I will expand on that to a full warband though the Kraakov are tempting...

The next project I have been working on is a couple of forces for Faction Wars, a great sci-fi skirmish game. I have been working on some Scout/Guard conversions for a Security Force and some FW figs for a Grand Family force. Check them out here for more pics.

Lastly I have been working on something that has been kicking around for a while Squats and a Termite. Once these guys are all done I am planning on selling them as I am trying to finish some projects and sell off what I am not likely to use; need more cash, the usual story. You can look here for more images and WIP pics.

So what else do I have planned for 2011 I hear you ask...I have been working on my own rules for a few different games but only two stand out at the mo and only one of those is anywhere near ready. Once the projects above are done I have a pile of Celtos figs to paint up so I can finally start to playtest the rules properly. The game is based on the Takings of Ireland myth but with less of a Slaine lean and less divergence from the original myths.

Well after a box of milliput I have an update!

The plan is to build up the base to make it look like its freshly emerging out of the ground; layers of foam, milliput, filler and sand. I can then undercoat this beastie and slap some paint on.

Wargods? Nope not for a long time. Good game but I'm not one for blocks of infantry much...maybe one day.

Excellent painting. I think that blood could use a little work, I've seen some real advanced gore techniques on this website. I don't know them myself. Check out Logan054's blog, he's gotten real good at the bloody weapons.

Thanks mdiscala, looking back at the pics I can tell I was a bit lazy. I used Tamiya clear red which apparently looks good mixed with a bit of Chaos Black; I will have to be a bit less lazy next time, lol.

Update time, first up is some sketches I did last night. I am planning on spending some time on my drawing and photoshop skills this year and will hopefully be scattering a good few more sketches and even some finished images as well. So far I have been looking at the Clone Wars style as I love its smooth clean lines.

The sketches are for my Inisfáil game idea, the human Mílesians are the fore-fathers of modern day Gaels or Irish-Scottish peeps. I have also started work on a map but it's not quite done yet.

Below is the Squat Termite, which has pretty much been finished build-wise, it just needs some PVA to seal the sand.

    Finished the map of Inisfáil.

I'm fairly happy with how this turned out. I may well add a few more locations at some point but for now it has all the main ones mentioned in the fluff. I have also been making a couple of simple templates and counters but they aren't very exciting to look at, lol.

The Termite has been undercoated and hopefully I will be able to start painting it on Wednesday. Tonight though I am going to do a bit more sketching.

did you ever play Nethergate by spiderweb software?

ancient RPG, not much to look at but set in the period of the roman occupation and celtic resistence plus formorians. i like formarions.

on the accurate historical side, there's the Warlord series by Bernard Cromwell:

I used Photoshop Elements which I got free as a trial, it's pretty good.

Not really as I see them. I'm using the Celtos figs which I think are pretty good, except for the HUGE weapons. I'd like to do some sculpting again so I may well have a bash. Plenty to do first though.

I am aiming at 'easy to learn but hard to master'. Models are in units with a loose formation of around 6-9 figs. Gameplay uses alternate unit activation and characters bolster units rather than act as walking avatars of death, in fact they have to join units (they are champions and lead from the front after all).

Look what turned up at my house on Sunday...

...a recent eBay purchase. This was one of those games I had hoped to get when I was a lad but by the time I had the cash GW no longer sold it. After watching it on eBay for ages I finally relented. I may well do a mini review when I eventually get around to playing it; am very busy at the moment making rings and sorting things out for my wedding in a couple of months time.

    Doh, thanks sucks Basher.

Update time, the Termite is finished! I gave it quite a weathering so it looks quite muddy. The varnish is making it look a bit shiny and flat, in terms of colour, in the pics. I will be putting this and the squats as a single lot on ebay, probably tomorrow if anyone's interested.

Next up I'm going to move onto my Security Force for Faction Wars!

    Mini update...

...with the Squats & their Termite done I am moving onto my Security Force for Faction Wars. This is only a small team so I can get the chaps at the club playing and I intend to expand it further with another 4 troopers plus some guard dogs and an exo-suit!

    Re: Hairy's Plog of...well projects...

Been a bit quite on here recently as have been busily trying to bash some Gobbos together for my first Fantasy army in...err...10-15 years. I had my first game last night which went well...except for all bar 2 Gobbos dying, lol.

I will be returning to my Faction Wars Security Force this week so I can finish them and I will give a bit of a low-down on how the battle went. Hopefully I can then bash a load more Gobbos together and start painting them in a couple of weeks time.

Oh and I have started collecting a new 40k army as well but nothing built yet so you will just have to wait and see what happens!

    Re: Hairy's Plog of...well projects...

Sadly no pics to show today as am being a bit slow.

My first outing with the Gobbos went...very...explosively. The Shaman exploded after miss casting Brainbursta and killed a few archers who were stand around him before causing magical feedback that saw nearly all my units damaged, even the giant. The archers then fled but did rally next turn so it could have been a lot worse.

The magic phase didn't go all the Dark Elves way for long as I squished the Sorcerer with my Doom Diver after my Warboss's unit of Wolf Boyz turned her into a pin cushion.

I had another great moment when my Battle Standard Bearer challenged and then managed to batter senseless the Champion of a massive unit of 30 Witch Elves! I have since decided to call him Skul Krusha to mark the occasion; he's deadly with a banner pole.

A great first game and I am looking forward to more I just need to build a lot more Gobbos and crack on with the painting.
