Haemonculo, haemonculas, haemonculat and all that

    • Page 1: Unpainted models
    • Page 2: Lelith Hesperax - completed, Syphilia Krane - completed

Before I jump back into the saddle of ploughing on with my Tau Xenos Army, I'm taking a small detour into the crazed, depraved mind of the Haemonculi.

The re-booted Haemonculi in the new Dark Eldar Codex are ripe for all sorts of conversions. I had a root through my bits boxes, ordered a couple of extras online, and have started to build a small, twisted family.

    Work so far:

    Urien Rakarth
    A simple, vanilla build

    Vorspache Kremlek
Conversion from Urien Rakarth. Awaiting green stuff and glove mounted syringes.

Re: Haemonculo, haemonculas, haemonculat and all that

    Arancine Metricular
Based on an old, battered Sykho Volestrus from Rackham. Daemonette clawed feet and a stunted arm. Awaiting green stuff and finishing of staff.

    Syphilia Krane
A Privateer Press model whose name escapes me. Urien Rakarth limbs added. Ready for paint!

    Spidus Grotesque: Aberration

Based on the Wyrd miniatures steampunk cyborg, with some old Inquistor scale mechadendrites. Awaiting greenstuff.

This Grotesque is the personal bodyguard of Syphilia Krane.

    Wrack: "Acothyst Sprax"

Based on the companion to the Syphilia source model. Head swap, arm swaps, dryad bone branches and various chains and spikes from the Chaos Marauders on horseback.

The PP models are Mortenebra and Deryliss. Nice idea with those two.

    Nice Wrack.

Almost gets me inspired to make some of my own.

Syphilia looks amazing! Please try to remember what that base model is, it's perfect.

Can't wait to see what twisted paint schemes you have in store for them.

Also good to see someone else who sees the potential in the dryad branches for DE, I've used one so far but not on any coven units... they seem to work very well as bizarre extra limbs.

What bits are the cylinders/syringes hanging in the branches on the Wrack?

Excellent project title. Made me giggle. The conversions are looking pretty excellent as well, I think quite a few people are drawn to the Wyrd Miniatures range in conjunction with the new DE codex. I must say I really do like Vorspache Kremlek, cool looking miniature, can't wait to see progress.

Dude, you're rockin' the haemie conversion scene! Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing paint on them.

I find that acothyst too amazing to be just a wrack leader, I would give him the full rank of heamonculi.

That grotesque does look cool, but I'm guessing he would be even cooler with some huge muscular legs, bringing him closer to the artwork.

Thanks! I'm not planning on building a Dark Eldar army (yet!). In this respect, I envisage him (it?) as more of a most faithful and trusted assistant to the Haemonculi. In service for so many years that he's literally part of the furniture.

Totally agree that Spidus is quite a deviation from the artwork. I loved the model so intentionally kept the conversion work to minimum. Again, as a small dysfunctional 'family' of Haemonculi, he's more of a pet for Syphilia, doubling as a bodyguard.

Thanks for all the positive comments, some PiP photos for the weekend!

The big syringes are explosives(?) from the dwarf miners sprue, with the runes filed off and a piece of paperclip glued in the end. Hopefully when painted with liquid they'll look pretty good.

I plan on making finer versions for the glove mounted syringes that Vorspache Kremlek will sport.

Re: Haemonculo, haemonculas, haemonculat and all that

    Hey!

    Today's work:
    • Gritting the bases, ready for basecoating;
    • Some greenstuffing on the Spidus Grotesque and Vorspache Kremlek.

And, some painting progress on Syphilia Krane:

I've tried to go for a more muted, subtle paint scheme than I normally paint (my Tau are quite colourful), and a much paler, almost pastel palette for Dark Eldar.

My reasoning for this on Haemonculi is that they don't see much sun (although I've yet to see Dark Eldar sporting tan lines!). The colours for Syphilia are therefore very muted, almost bridal. Perhaps she is a spurned lover from an earlier incarnation of Urien Rakarth?

Her whole outfit is made from the skin and armour of the Adeptus Sororitas.

That's an excellent subdued palette, subtle yet still contrasting. I've been watching this log and hoping the painting would do the conversions justice - looks like I won't be disappointed! Hope to see you making rapid progress.

    Today's progress:

She's close to being completed now, and doesn't she look beautiful?

    Still to do:
    • Face
    • Fingernails
    • Glass highlights
    • Small amount of blood
    • Dust around hem of dress

Thoughts and comments, as always, very welcome!

    I love the muted colours.
Have you thought of using colour of irritated or sick skin, like purple and green in the shadows?
I think it would look nice.

That's the first converted Wrack I've seen I've actually liked, and it's awesome! the colour-scheme is very nice too beautiful and non-generic. Good work!
