5th Company Fire Angels ( IA 9 style )

Greetings,

For some years now i wanted to start a Space Marine army. So this is my second 40k army and I chose the Fire Angels, saw them in Forge Worlds IA volume 9 BADAB WAR. After reading the fluff I decided that this army will not content Landraiders, Termis nor Dreadnoughts.

So the army will become basicly a infantry force with some rhinos and predators, i hope that will do justice to the fluff.

The Fire Angels are a joung chapter therefore I will use no older typs of armour, but i tried to bring some form of individuality into the first squad.
They are also a very faithfull kind, so I will try and tried on the first finished squad to create this feeling by adding purity seals and liturgy on their armour.
Furthermore I tried to creat a knight theme ( because of their love for swords and holy fires .....). That means that future HQ and Sergants will get swords for sure ( the first sg. was build years ago, and redone 1 year ago, so I just had no desire to rebuilt him again)

Battle damage was another thing that I wanted to explore, I tried it already with my World Eaters but this time I wanted to get further, I hope I didnt go to far.

That are the basic idears, next up will be another 10 Tac Sq ( If time ......-_- )

Will be interesting to see how this evolves as you build up the army and flesh it out. Nice take on the fluff, personally I've always tried to stick to one of the existing chapters but then I let go and find myself in successor land, oh well.

I'm particularly interested in seeing where you will go with the vehicles seeing as you have some good freehands on the infantry already and I love freehands on vehicles (as my own army might have given away, heh).

On the subject of battle damage and weathering I think you've got a good balance so far!

The Badab War stuff is, indeed, cool. I hadn't twigged that this metallic look was the new colour for the Fire Angels, though. I can't help feeling sad that the Space Sharks became the Carcharadons, but I can see why they did. I mean: Space Sharks? What were they thinking??

indeed! I haven't received my IA10 yet, but it should be in the mail in the next few days! cannot wait!
I am planning to create a few five man squads from various of the featured chapters.. my fav chapter will become a small army project (most likely charcharodons at this point)

These are ace! I almost didn't look at this coz i thought it was just another blood angels log, i was very pleasantly surprised when i checked tho, great work so far, good fluff choice, good scheme. These are really awesome.

An extremely minor critism, especially as im not much of a painter yet, could the eyes be a little brighter? I think they get a little lost in the metal colour, from a distances it hard to see them.

Alot of cool chapters in this book, I like the chapters that are "real" but not that commen like some others (mostly blue......).

Next squad will be defently another 10 Tac Sq, after that probably 2 rhinos.
Im thinking about how to include some sort of imperial gaurd or inquisitor ( they love this humans) but thats not easy with the current Codex. Thats why its probably will become a mechanized infatry force.

your absolutly right about the eys, my test model had red gleming ones, but i decided against it because in the IA they have black linses ( I know Im a fluff nerd ,sorry )

I was reading Imperial armour 9 just last night and was dreaming of painting my own Fire Angels some time. I really like what youve done so far, ecspecially the tactical squad. When reading the article in IA9 I noticed that the eyes were black and thought it would be the most challaging thing to get right. Do you mind if I ask how you did them?

No no, if thats the case then so be it, im a stickler for fluff as well, it still enrages me everytime someone ask why my crimson fists only have one red fist, Because they only the right one when they are veterans!! Ahhh, read the fluff please! Anyway, i completely understand holding ur guns, good on you.

It might even make them more sinister, dead eyes staring down as they burn heretics, lol

No problemo:

Black undercoat

1. 50-60 % of the eye in direction of the nose with a mix 50 50 chaos black codex grey. And let the back part black
2. than with pure codex grey 15 -20 % of the eyes were they meet the nose
3. one litte dot skull white in the back chaos black part.

I tottaly understand, fluff is very importent for me, if you dont want it to be a part of your army, than create your own chapter, tribe, whatever : But if it is somthing "real existing" I try to handle it if I woud built up a real army from human history. ( I hope that makes some weird sense )

I think these turned out pretty well. The silver and red go well together and your painting style has a feel about it that i cant really describe but just feels so natural; nice work on the highlights and battle damage too.

Can't wait to see more!

the heads are just Space Marine Masters of the Chapter heads. they are a bit smaller and better sculpted than the plastic heads that come on the sprues. The smaller heads give the figures more realistic proportions. I started my log about a year ago using exclusively those heads and have seen a few other logs pop up on here since doing the same. If you are making a small force, i definatly recommend you buy a masters of the chapter set for bits. The rest of the figures the set comes with would really lend well to your Fire Angels army as Sgts, command squad marines, vets. etc.

the newer heads like the one you chose are definatly an improvement over the tac marine with the mask and the old tac sgt. head. Your figures look great and its cool you are making an all plastic force. From what I have seen so far, using all the plastics will not limit you from adding some great character to your force. keep the updates coming.
