    Chapter fleet questions

A few questions regarding the might of the Warseers in space.

I've already volunteered a Barge for purposes of show, but would anyone be intrested in getting a full on fleet together?

Second, would anyone be intrested in cooking up some color schemes for the smaller ships, such as frigates?

Finaly, one for any of the leadership, would a fleet admiral mini be in order?

Isn't the Master of the Fleet also the Captain of one of the Companies? (The Second Company, I think, but I'm not sure. Maybe it's the Fifth.) If so, wouldn't there already be a Fleet Admiral model being built?

If you look at the strike cruiser and the marine escort vessels they are all basically itty bitty battle barges, so you should just be able to apply a similar colour scheme to the one you are using on the barge. Although you may have to reverse the colours of the front and back fins on the strike cruiser since the chapter icon goes on the front fins instead of the back ones.

    Re: Chapter fleet questions

Keep in mind my position is honorary. I don't make the decisions, that is left to those higher up the chain of command.

Just looking at the Ultramarines in the old 3rd ed marine codex, the title 'Commander of the Fleet' is given to the captain of the 4th company - which in our case is Grand Master Librarian Wintermute. There's nothing that says we have to emulate the Ultramarines command structure to the letter though, the Master Librarian probably has enough on his plate without having to command the fleet too.

Incidentally the Ultramarine fleet consists of:
3 Battle Barges, 8 Strike Cruisers, 12 escorts and 32 thunderhawks

Since we are a crusading chapter with no set homeworld do we want to vary that structure? Do we want only one battle barge ie. *the* Battle Barge? How about a Ramilies Class Star Fort? Fewer Strike Cruisers? More?

    Re: Chapter fleet questions

I'll buy the barge being 'the' barge. More strike cruisers would permit companies to strike where needed, and a star fort, if we could find a way to make it mobile, would make a good housing for thingsl ike the forges, the apothecarion, and training areas for the lowly scouts such as myself.

    Re: Chapter fleet questions

The problem with a star fort is [a] someone has to buy it and [b] I'm not really sure it fits with the fluff about the Warseers being a fleet based crusading chapter. The Imperial Fists have the Phalanx and the Dark Angels have their fortress monastary built into a movable asteroid, but those chapters aren't really what you'd call fleet based are they? Plus the battle barge loses it significance if we've got something bigger. So having suggested a star fort, I'm now doing a complete about face and say we shouldn't have one.

I pulled out the old BFG space marine fleet list and had a read. For a legal list we'll need at least 1000pts worth (the minimum which allows you to take a battle barge). In the fluff a battle barge carries roughly three companies and a strike cruiser carries one. So the minimum needed to transport the entire chapter (assuming scouts ride along with various companies) is 1 BB and 6 SCs.
As for escorts, the Gladius class frigate is referred to as the mainstay of space marine fleets. Hunter class destroyers are less common and Nova class frigates are a rarity.
The chapter can also take Sword and Firestorm class frigates and Cobra class destroyers as rapid strike vessels and system patrol craft. Although Cobras are no longer listed on the US Online Store.

All this talk of BFG is making me want to make up my own Warseer fleet.

    Re: Chapter fleet questions

is there a fluff point to having but one battlebarge?
you could just make the one the big main flagship,
many even non-crusading chapters with homeworlds have two or three battlebarges, and even though the warseer chapter has sustained losses,
its fleet may or may not be more or less intact.

"The Imperial Fists have the Phalanx and the Dark Angels have their fortress monastary built into a movable asteroid, but those chapters aren't really what you'd call fleet based are they?"quote from Oxford

Current documentation depicts the Imperial Fists as a mobile chapter who recruit from a series of chapter keeps on worlds along Phalanx's patrol route, including Terra, Inwit, and Necromunda.

As the Dark Angels have no home world to speak of, they draw their recruits from a variety of planets, mainly with a pre-industrial level of technology.

    Hope that helps a little.
And lets say the Warseer Chapter is a crusading chapter wouldnt that mean that they committed heresy and were given a second chance i.e. they are no longer allowed to recruit due to the possiblity of "tainting" new members?

Lets try to get those of us who are donating BFG to warseer a little bit more tidy. Can someone make a list of the people who are willing to donate a ship?
If so what kind of ship is it etc..
