they do. Well, sort of. Its a towed weapon. So you would have these in an ambush position, ready to fire, as soon as the first Mech steps into sight. After that, they can only rely on good camoflage and luck when rolling dice for cover saves.
The laser troops are more useful as they won't be stuck in place and can move around (at least with tactical speed) and still fire some of their better weapon systems.

PPCs are available although only in another towed version (think of WW2 field guns or PAK). This certainly is no hand-held weapon.

Re: Tomorrow's War meets Battletech (in 15mm scale)

Not really a big update today. I have finished one of the infantry specials for Kurita - a mortar team. I love to base weapon teams on a larger base instead of single bases for every team member. That's an exception to my normal habits, but allows to build small diorama-like scenes.

Once again these are re-based Mechwarrior Dark Age minis. The base is an 5 Eurocent coin.

a medium mortar plus crew of two.

I am going to add a few of those infantry specials to each of my armies. There should be snipers, combat engineers etc. soon.

Clan Wolf, Beta Galaxy Elemental Point.

My first clanner unit are a Point (5 troopers) of elite infantry in Elemental battle armor. Repainted and re-based Elementals from Mechwarrior Clix.

Elementals are the armored infantry troopers of the Clans. Elementals are genetically bred to be the largest and strongest of the three common Clan warrior phenotypes. They wear battle armor that gives them tremendous strength, protection, and mobility. The armor also allows groups of Elementals to damage, or even destroy, 'Mechs. Elementals are some of the best soldiers in existence. They follow difficult training, which differs from one Clan to another. Only a few members of each sibko "test out" to become true Elementals
A size comparison with regular infantry of the Inner Sphere (Kurita trooper):

The Point Commander (with Clan Wolf decal to identify him during gameplay)

Elementals carry a SRM-2 rack on their back, jump jets and a main weapon system. The latter mostly consists of either a (light) Laser or a (heavy) machine gun, depending on mission.

The other arm has a manipulative BattleClaw that is strong enough to tear armor plates off any vehicle, even a Mech. Mounted on the same arm are small arms, mostly a SMG or an assault rifle.

    The SRM rack

Here is another update on Clan forces. This Mech is more or less a test piece. I tried the paint scheme for Beta Galaxy with the paints I had at home (a mix of GW, Vallejo and oil paints) only to see how it would turn out. It's not the best miniature - a re-painted Mechwarrior miniature - but I am pleased with the choice of colours. Looks as expected (at least to me).

30 tons of Clan OmniMech power

    from Sarna.net
The Kit Fox is a light Clan OmniMech with long-range combat as a primary focus, earning it the Inner Sphere codename of Uller, after the Norse god of archery.

Alternative configuration "A" as shown on the miniature carries a Gauss Rifle. A pretty nasty surprise given the weight of the Kit Fox.

The other arm carries two Medium Lasers. Those are powerful enough to deal damage in significant amounts.

Back detail of the torso. I decided to put the Mech on top of some rocks to increase its height. For my opinion it was too tiny compared to other light Mechs i have in my collection.

The Kit Fox A in comparison to the Elemental point I had finished recently.

An Uller! Nice! They held a pretty kick in the mechwarrior games (at least im sure they were in....Otherwise a mech was that looked an awfull lot like it ) as your showing here... A gauss rifle, whoah....

Also those elements were a pain to deal with in mech commander. They hardly were worth the trouble to shoot at but if you dident they would do some damage! I thought the inner sphere had them at as well at some point though? (not really up on the lore of the mechwarrior universe, just the games )

I concur - my instinctive reaction upon seeing your Elementals was to recoil in revulsion. I could never hit them in MechWarrior 3 and they were a total pain in the bum in MechCommander! Wish my PC could still run those games, it seems to be too advanced now?!

I really like this new scheme you've done - it looks good so I hope you'll do a few more. Your log is making me want to branch out into mecha and 15mm, I really like all your work on this stuff.
It seems difficult to source actual mech models on evil bay etc - I seem to remember you built up your collection over time?

Keep up the good work - if you ever fight with these guys I would like to see how Tomorrow's War works for them.

I simply love this thread, really got me looking into Battletech itself. Jealous of your elfbait mechs, they're something special.

If I were to get into Battletech itself, I'd probably try and get Robotech/Macross N-scale toys like yourself, but they seem really rare on eBay. Have you bought them all?

    Probably.
Its not hard to find them, but you got to import a lot from overseas. I don't mind doing that, I also don't care about the price tag if I really want something. The latter doesn't mean that I don't check average prices before actually purchasing something though

I used to have some of these models, but in 1/48th scale (done by Revell), I miss those days
    Good fun!

Re: Tomorrow's War meets Battletech (in 15mm scale)

The second one of my finished Ral Partha Europe Museum Scale Mechs is the "Mad Dog" Clan OmniMech.
It's going to reinforce the Clan Wolf Beta Galaxy with some long range firepower. This model is a re-based multi-part pewter miniature.

    Quote Originally Posted by sarna.net

With hunched shoulders, a protruding head, and reverse-jointed legs, the Mad Dog resembles a vulture, so much so that it was codenamed Vulture and Hagetaka ("Vulture" in Japanese) by the Inner Sphere forces which first encountered it. The name also fits the battlefield role of the Mad Dog; the main role of the Mad Dog is to act as a support 'Mech, and it often holds a hill maintaining constant watch over the entire battlefield, like a vulture waiting for its prey. With its ample firepower and decent speed of 86.4 km/h, it makes a highly mobile firing platform, and as such has spread to near ubiquity among the forces deployed by the Clans.

I really like the Museum Scale pewter kits as they have an awesome amount of detail and really nice panel lines. This kit was painted, using a combination of GW colours and oil paints.

This side shot reveals detail of the arm mounted combo of Large and Medium Pulse Lasers.

Mounted to the shoulder, left and right of the cockpit are the huge LRM-20 racks.

The Mech's pilot has a rather small cockpit, but mounted high on top of the torso it also provides a good view over the battlefield.

The Mad Dog's back shows the large ammo storage in its shoulders the heat sink ports.

Re: Tomorrow's War meets Battletech (in 15mm scale)

Time for the next minor update on Clan forces. Another Kit Fox (Uller), this time in configuration "B". This is a heavily converted former Mechwarrior Clix figure that I have re-based.

With only 30 tons this Mech sports an enormous AC/10 Ultra in its right arm, combined with a SRM 6 launcher. The arm is a combination of various Mechwarrior Dark Age Mech parts.

    Details of the AC/10 Ultra.

The back doesn't look any different compared to my Kit Fox "A".

The business end of the Clan Mech shows the broader shoulders compared to the "A" configuration.

The laser arm is the same as on version "A". It contains a Medium and a Small Laser.

Re: Tomorrow's War meets Battletech (in 15mm scale)

Time for an update. Had some time to paint due to being sick at home. It's not yet finished though....

I always wanted to finish one force before beginning to paint the next one - however, I just couldn't resist painting the mightiest of all Inner Sphere Mechs: The "Atlas". And boy, it is HUGE.

House Kurita elite "Sword Of Light" regiment's AS-7 D ATLAS. (Still work in progress as I am short on decals needed to display the "Sword Of Light" regimental insignia).

This kit is an (all-metal) so-called Museum Scale Mech from Ral Partha Europe. I converted it a little bit though.

A sashimono (back banner) has been added, taken from a 1/72 Zvezda Samurai warrior. The Kurita crest is a decal, the kanji are written using a fineliner. The Sword Of Light regiment's warriors are strictly following the code of the Samurai - as such, I wanted them to look a little like their ancient forefathers. The shoulders looked a little empty so I added a cherry-blossom painting on both sides.

The side reveals another detail bit I added: the Autocannon/20 barrel was extended with a barrel from a Wh40k Meltagun.

A little bit of warning decals here and there to break up the overall red appearance. Back details of the fusion reactor core and heat sinks.

Thanks! Latest add-on to my forces:

Next Mech ready to deploy (apart from Sword Of Light decals not yet added): 80 ton HTM-27T "Hatamoto Chi".

Left arm sporting a Tiegart PPC. Note the back banner that I have added, using a plastic part from Zvezda's 1/72 samurai box.

Detail of the right arm: Katana sword (custom variant, the HTM-27T normally doesn't have one) and a second Tiegart PPC.

Details of the back include the banner (sashimono) and sword+flame emblem of House Kurita's elite regiments.

Front shot reveals the two torso mounted Bical SRM-6 Missile Racks and the cherry blossom theme that I am trying to add to all Kurita Mechs so they don't end up being simply painted red all around.

Off to the painting table. The Coordinator needs more war machinery!

I'll see what I can do. Lyran Guard blue+white scheme would be a nice idea. Thanks!

Ok, just like I said - the last pics in my other two blog entries were "work in progress". They were, cause I had no access to the necessary decals to finish the two Mechs entirely. Thanks to Ennis A. (Father Ennis, whom I know from another forum) I got a whole decal sheet of "1st Sword Of Light" emblems in the mail today, and the Atlas and Hatamote Chi can now be considered DONE!
The Atlas also received a large scale Kurita crest for his giant torso armor. Somehow I figured something was missing for the commanding officer's Mech... the large dragon emblem fills the blanks nicely (decal is normally supposed to go onto an Armorcast 1/60 scale Atlas).

The "1st Sword Of Light" traditionally fields a white dragon emblem on their Kurita crest and bear those on the left shoulder: Hatamoto Chi and Atlas with their "ivory dragon" emblems. Thanks, Ennis!

The DRG-1G Grand Dragon. One of House Kurita's very own designs, produced by Luthien Armor Works, reinforcing my Sword Of Light units.

Offensive capabilities are based upon a center torso mounted LRM-10 launcher.

Back details include unit insignia, heat sink vents and back banner.

Left arm, sporting unit insignia (ivory dragon crest) and a Victoy 23R Medium Laser.

Right arm bearing a Lord's Thunder PPC.

Details of the upper torso: once again with the cherry blossom theme and a sashimono (back banner). Left and right of the cockpit are another pair of Medium Lasers.

Off to the painting table for more mechs...

One more to finish a lance. It's not the lance as these won't go together, I really just painted up what I was liking the most or what I grabbed out of the bag of unbuilt stuff at that time. There is a whole stack of unbuilt mechs, infantry and vehicles still waiting.
