    Gobsmakked's Eldar Noir - The Serpent's Breath

Thought I would add to the plethora of new DE armies being shown here. I'm much slower than most other people at building and painting, however, so updates will come in fits and starts.

I have been playing for 3-1/2 years roughly, and not very often at all, and I have been playing Orks and 'Nids until now. DE have always had a huge appeal to me and I began slowly accumulating 2nd-hand models and bitz in early-2010. I stopped once the new codex and models were confirmed, figuring rightly that I would want them more than the old ones.

So, now I am starting off with a mixture of old and new, and I will gradually add new models as they are released. I don't have my fluff written yet, but my idea all along has been a Kabal loosely tied to Commorragh but still quite independent, living on a node somewhere so remote that they are like ghosts even amongst the rest of the DE. Still very much like true pirates or corsairs.

I hope eventaully to have enough to be able to create a Kabal or a Wych or Haemonculi Coven, if I want, so I may have different backgrounds to suit.

Enough babbling! First up is Sliscus, based on the WFB Vlad von Carstein. I liked the souls swirling around the legs and the cape, which also has fur on it akin to the Archon's. I'm actually trying for an all-female army, so technically it's Duchess Sliscus under the armour.

Then Baroness Sathonyx, on her custom Skyboard. I wanted to keep the aethersail aesthetic wherever I could, hence the windsurfer, and after painting I will add a clear-plastic window like on a real board. I replaced the barrels of the splinter pods with splinter rifle barrels, so that her gear would better reflect her status.

And some Venoms, a quick and convenient kitbash using some older Reavers and broken Raider bitz that were available. I figure that the new Venoms, when they eventually appear, won't be based on CE gear anyway, or they will have both DE and CE options to choose from. I'm sure that I will be getting the new ones when they arrive, but I quite like the character of these, I can easily see five riders hanging off the back platform with complete disregard and plan to add a couple of older warriors to reflect that, like the new Raider passengers.

More to come, sporadically. C&C welcome, cheers

10 points for being the first person not to use vyper canopies for your venom conversions!

I don't claim to be "first" but still...

Like your Duke. It's sometimes a shame I don't use metal...

Yes, I love your Venoms, easily the best that I have seen so far (I voted for you on BoLS I would make some like yours or a couple of the others from the BoLS comp., but I just don't have the resources at the moment.

Not it's not, really. I would also be 100% plastic in a flash if I could, I hate metal for many, many reasons. I just liked this guy the best for what I had in mind.

    Re: Gobsmakked's Eldar Noir

Finally have enough progress made to post a few pics. Still not many unfortunately, I have been frantically trying to get enough of my army ready for a tournament this weekend but have also been incredibly busy at work as well as installing hardwood flooring on the 2nd floor of our house. Not fun.

Anyway here's a few things. The green poison dripping off all of the poison weapons is a theme I will continue throughout the entire army, it's just Reaper's Flouro Green paint mixed with Woodland Scenics Water Effects. Very effective visually, although it does look a little more garish in these pics than it does in reality. [note - Reaper also has a Flouro Pink to which you can add some darker purple and the Water effects, looks good on 'Nids]

    Finished Duke Sliscus.

    Unfinished Archon and converted Succubus.

Raider and Ravager - I saw a picture in a WD around the time of the DE release last year, Battle of Charon or something like that. It showed an invasion fleet of sailing ships with Viking-like figureheads on the bows and I decided that this another that I wanted to have with my vessels, even though I also love the standard prow. I like my boats and will probably have a mixture of prows and dragon heads, but I'm just not sure about the blue colour. Might change it to the same ghoul green from my wyches.

The vessel colour-scheme is a wash of Reaper's Gunmetal Blue over Boltgun, with Mithril Silver and then Chrome highlights.

I really need to re-do the eyes on the dragons also.

All of my transports will have a mixture of Warriors and Wyches, and eventually Wracks also, as crew. The bow-rider on this one is not leaning foward quite at the right angle, that will be another fix at some point.

WOW! Great concepts here. I think the Windsurfer Baron(ess) is one of the coolest minis I've ever seen. The dragon heads on the Raiders are simply inspired. Good job!

    Re: Gobsmakked's Eldar Noir

Long time, no post. I'm mostly active on The Dark City now, but thought it's high time for a bit of an update here, too.

OK, here are some Grotesques I have converted from Rat Ogres, the first of two squads.

    The complete squad.

Aberration with Scissorhands, and a bow gunner for my Haemie Raider/Ravager.

Liquifier gun and Ichor Injector (counts as regular CCW).

    Regular grotesques with CCW's.

    C&C welcome.

    Re: Gobsmakked's Eldar Noir

And finally a Reaper that I kitbashed, pretty happy with this.

And I finally changed the blue on my dragon boats' figureheads and sails to the ghoul skin green that matches the non-armour wyche suits on the rest of my figures. I think it looks much better. I still have to fix the Dragons' eyes.

    C&C welcome. Cheers.

Looks like your painting is improving a lot, very nice Grotesques and Razorwing. I like the engine glow on your skiffs too.

    Re: Gobsmakked's Eldar Noir

My second squad of Grotesques converted from Skaven Rat Ogres - sorry, the pics somehow have a yellow/orange hue even though they were taken in the shade outside In reality, they look identical to my first squad.

There are two, alternate Aberrations, one with Scissorhands and the other with a "Flesh Gauntlet". The Liquifier is awaiting a fuel tank from an Ork Burna, and the gunner is for my Coven Raider. The regular Rat Ogres work very well once you fill their gawdawful waist and shoulder gaps with GS.

    Re: Gobsmakked's Eldar Noir

This is my finished Voidraven bomber, converted by combining two Razorwing kits and inserting a Venom cockpit for the rear, raised pilot's cockpit. There are two cockpit canopies under the forward gunner's cockpit to represent my version of his/hers perspex prism, as per the codex.

    C&C welcome.

The blended canopies underneath streamlined very nicely.
