Imrik's log of Fantasy (Malifaux Warhammer and others things)

    Hey all,
This is my first Thread on warseer and in fact it commorates my first ever warhammer army, the high elves.
Having spent a fair bit of time studying all the fluff I could find on the high elves, I have decided to theme this force heavily on the region of caledor in southern ulthuan.

imrik, last heir to Caledor Dragontamer and high prince of caledor believes that to simply defend ulthuan by sitting idle is folly. And men such as finubar the sea-wife and tyrion – the “maiden” guardian of ulthuan would see their home sink to the depths of the sea with the their arrogance. For to imrik, if the elves are to have any hope of surving this coming storm of chaos they must sally forth from their homes and take the fight to old world and the realm of chaos itself. Rooting out the beasts and deamons of this world once and for all rather than letting them desecrate the sacred sands of ulthuan. For imrik, greater glories lie out in the world championing the cause of the righteous .If tyrion wants the glory of nurse-maiding ulthuan then fine, more glory for imrik and for caledor!

To this end, Imrik has sent out his mighty hosts to the far corners of the world in the hopes of delivering ulthuan and of course mighty caledor from the jaws of defeat at the hand of the ruineous powers. One such host is lead by Imrik’s second in command and great friend, Belanor Flametreader.

Belanor was born under dubious means to his mother a caledorian mage named Dreala, during her captivity in the dungeons of naggrond in the land chill. Through her own valor and courage she managed to escape with her ill begotten son back to caledor. There despite his social stigma of half druchii blood, Belanor was able to rise through the ranks of the caledorian army through sheer force of skill and charisma until one fateful day when he saved the then-young prince imrik from a pack of chaos taineted blood drakes high in the peaks of caledor. From that day on the pair were inseperable and soon a greatfriendship flourished. When enevitably Imrik took the throne of caledor, his first act was to appoint his longtime friend and skilled leaderBelanor to postion of high general of the hosts of caledor. To this day no one knows how Dralea escaped from naggaroth, however ther are wispers that to her Druchii captors she was forced to give another son, and that perhaps even now, belanor has a brother in the dreaded land of chill….

Of course, what would a high elf force be without special choices. So without further pause…
The Dragon knights of House Caledor

I found it silly to have whole units of princes on the field under the command of a high elf NOBLE so for fluf reasons I have changed these guys to the house knights of the house of Caledor dragontamer.

To support the knights, I have some of the beautiful new Phoenix guard hoever for the purpose of this force they are the house guards of prince Imrik, or Dragon guards, I haven’t quite decided if I want to convert the heads of not to more reflect dragons or not so for the time being, the wings stay. I wanted to give the long chain skirts the look of ruby dragon scales to denote their status as the greates unmounted defenders of the realm.

Finaly is the test miniature for the Sword masters of hoeth.

These guy will be exactly what they are swordmasters. The way I figure it, not all swordmasers are from saphery and infact are recruited from all across ulthuan. Furthermore, caledorians being some of the greatest warriors of ulthuan would doubtlessly make up a significant portion of the warrior scholars of hoeth. In keeping with the fact that these caledorians have sworn oths to defend the white tower, their armor and robes are the blue and white of the rest of ulthuan, however they have honored their caledorian heiritage in the choice of using dragonfire emeralds to adorn their armor.

The way I figure it, these guys have been seconded to the command of belanor to aid several of belanors closesest friends who have come to aid him on his quest to combat chaos in ethel Arvin. Who will make an appearance later on in this log…..

My count as Lothern sea guard, the royal dragoons of Caledor

the mountainous region of caledor has seen many a battleline thrown into disaray and to this end were the dragoons of caledor born. trained in both bow and spear, the dragoons of caledor can adapt to any srole neccesary of them in the tight mountain passes of the region of their birth, where long battle line of spears with ranks of archers far to the rear would be combersome to wield at best but disasterous to employ at worst.

I plan to use an unconverted unit of 20 of these stalwart troops to alow my list to be flexible in many battles. (unconverted cause i like the models)

Well, that’s it for now, please respond as im very unsure about my paint schemes and unit choices and fluff to boot. All comments are welcome please..

    Cheers
    For Caledor

To start with, great job mate!

Also, the freehand on Balenor's cloak resembles a norse hill carving a lot (norse as in the real norse from scandinavia )

Very nice and really unique theme! If you wanted to do changes to the pheonix guard heads to make them more dragony, perhaps swap them with the dragon prince heads?

Re: Imrik's Dragon host of Caledor

so here are my plans for this force as it stands, i have 10 more seaguard troops comming in the post to fill the dragoon unit, a unit of 6 mounted dragoons to paint( since i cant stand having some pansey ellyrions in my force)
two mages, the rest of a unit of 14 sworsmasters to acompany them. also i have to finish the dragon guard once i decide what to do with their heads without buying a bunch of dp heads (tho i will if i must)

finaly are my plans for the spearment of caledor and what should be the centerpeice unit in this force (next to the enevitable imrik model i have lying around).

all the spearment will use dp torsos (already have them) and mix of dp shields and dark elf shields cause they look my warlike, perfectly suited for caledor.
    these

im hoping these changes to the spearment kit will give them a suitible ard look.

finnaly, what i hope will be the centerpiece for this force are the Drake slayers. the story for these guys will be as follows, "ever have the druchii dared the deeps of dragonspince mountains in search of unborn dragons to slay or steal, and it falls to the solmne drake slayers to safe guard these precious lifes on whos hope all of ulthuan and caledor resides.

the guardians of the dragon dens draw their fiersome name and demeanor from the sole test for their station. in the deeps of the dragonspince mountains where dragons sleep away the aeons and eggs lay waiting to hatch, there lurks a sinister presence unknown to all save the lords of caledor. dark creatures born of malice and twisted into hatful forms by the rage of uncaring gods of chaos, hunt these deths seeksing to slay their pure blooded dragon kin, for these creates are the warp corupted blood drakes of caledor. as chaos has effected all things in the world so to have the ruineos powers taken there toll on the noble dragons of ulthuan. for ever purn dragon egg hatched another is born in hate and so it falls to the drakes slayers to end these pitiful abominations lest they be allowed to wreak havoc.
the drake slayers asume there mantle by slaying their first bllod drake and taking its scaly skin for a cloak. in times of war, when the need of caledor is great the drakeslayers saly forth to perform their other sacred duty. carying pure dragon eggs into the head of battle so theat prehaps, spurred on by the waring around them they may be coaxed to hatch."

the guys i plan will use the ruls for white lions of chrace and will be modeled using white lion legs, and corsair torsos(for the cloaks) there great axes will be resculpted to look like blades forged from dragonspines. as for there head, i will probably use dp head tho im not sure. and finaly, for a unit filler, they will surround a nest of dragon eggs brought with them in the hopes that the battle will see them hatch. for these i hope to use

comments are welcome and update with pics later tonight
    cheers

The colour scheme is great, that's a really nice tone of orange you have there.

I really like the free hand details you've added, but my favourite is definitely the phoenix guard, the colours suit him really well, and the effect on the armour looks great.

Re: Imrik's Dragon host of Caledor

thanks for the comments i think i have solved my dilema with the phoenix guards heads, with some cutting and repositioning of the wings, i can get them to more closely resemble the old pg heads. pic later tonight of the first 3 finished.

I like the way you have taken all posh fairyness out of the High Elves and replaced it with some Fiery aggresssion! I think the background and your unit ideas are cool. Cant wait to see more.

Re: Imrik's Dragon host of Caledor

hey all, i got a bit more work done tonight so here are some pics.
first off i did some rework on the pg icon bearer. by cutting and remounting the wings sweeping back, i have achieved ( I think) a look closer to the old models and in fact im quite happy with how i imagine a complete unit will look.

next i nearly finished the bladelord for my swordmasters unit. i know that i want an abundance of the green gems on the unit since it is the only color tying them in with the rest of my force, but do you guys think there are too few colors on him? should i add more colored gems as opposedto just green?

finaly, a pic showing how the blue of the unit fits in with the bright red of the rest of the force. do you guys think it will look bad or fit in nicely (because there is no doubt it will stand out, i just am hoping it looks good too! )

comments criticisms and of course fluff suggestion are most welcome!

    Cheers

But they're not real princes, are they? As in princes as heirs of a kingdom? It's just an honorific, imho.

I think the blue guy would look fine as long as there is a fluff reason behind his blueness. Which I guess is that they are fighting for him from another Provence and they kept their home colors?

Re: Imrik's Dragon host of Caledor

What about doing the trim around the armour, knife and chest red but keep the blue on the helmet crest. This would still make it obvious that they are fighting as swordsmasters of Hoeth, yet along with the green gems the red would show tribute to their land of birth. I think one of the great things about your army is the red theme and I think its worth sticking to it, sometimes ignoring the fluff can make for a really striking minature or army. I have thought about doing a red and black lizardmen army in the past yet the fluff stopped me, seeing how good your force looks I might start it. I could say they have been corrupted by khorne too... it might never happen in the warhammer world but would make a cool looking force.
    Great painting by the way!
