    Nordic's Barbarian Horde!

    Hello!

I've read alot of Conan the barbarian, Slaine and played some diablo 2 for the past year and i got so inspired by those barbarians i wanted to make a barbaric army for Warhammer as well.
I think I will play with them as Orcs or maybe WoC because i think the character of that army fits these models. plus the bases are the right size too. =P But i have not yet decided so any tips on armies that might fit this theme is apriciated. Right now im just making the models andtry to find rules that fit them rather than the other way around.

I have carved away any and all chaos stars and arrows from all weapons and armor to make them look less like chaos because i don't want them to be associated them.

If i play Orcs the converted marauders will count as regular orc boys or if i play with them as WoC they will be regular Marauders. All but one marauder have had their legs repositioned to make them look like they're running. I removed the hooks from the standard and replaced them with horns from some helmeted head. I have removed all horns from the marauder heads because frankly i think they are butt ugly.i tried to have everyone wield axes but there are three models who wears clubs because i wanted the champion to have a great two-headed axe. Three of them are left handed because i gave them the champion axes to have as many models as possible wielding axes. There is some small green stuffing left to be done like filling some gaps and sculpting some hair on the baldies.

If i play Orcs the Heavy armored barbarians will count as Black orcs or WoC Warriors or chosen. Their arms are only blue tac-ed in place for easier painting. They're made from the new beastmen beastigors. i have cut and repositioned the legs and sculpted boots from green stuff. Its very difficult to make the legs look good because they spread them so wide when they have their goat legs. Hopefully I might be able to make some ok-looking poses for them anyways. Im thinking of adding a fur cloak-ish thing to them because they look a bit hunchbacked atm. I think they look kinda like the Diablo 3 barbarian design which i really like. =)

i have some ideas to make the bases more interesting like adding some rock slates to have them running on. i'm thinking of having winter themed bases as well.

I'm not sure whether to paint the armor as leather or metal. Maybe a combination? I have some ideas for the cloth to have like a tartarn pattern to bring some color into the models as well.

im planning to make this a small side project army while i wait for new witch hunters to arrive and taking a break from skaven.

Looks good, cutting the horns of those marauder heads makes them look a little bit more on par with horsemen heads. Good to know.

    really awesome man!!
    i love em!
how did you make them look like running? i mean, do you do something to the legs or something?
could you maybe post a few pictures that show how?

Really cool-looking Barbarians. You could use them for "historical" games against O&G's, and run them as WoC, but say they are the warriors of the Unberogens, with the Chaos Lord representing Sigmar?

A Chaos lord is probably the best way of representing a truly mighty babrbarian chief, clad in plot-armour as thick as all get-out...

    Re: Nordic's Barbarian Horde!

first of all, thanks for the great response!

Second, someone was wondering how i did the repositioning of the legs so i thought id show you some pics.

i only cut up one knee per model because otherwise theres too much uneccesairy fiddling.

the HA Barbs are trickier to make them look good becuase of their goat legs they originaly have.

here's a Wip pic before any Green stuffing.

here are some of my inspirational pictures from Slaine the horned god:

Im planning to make my leader ride a Wood Elf Stag. i will use it either as a demonic steed if i play WoC or a boar if i play it as O&G.

I will probably use a colorscheme that looks alot like that tartan he's wearing. and i will also do that helmet for the warlord.

hey yeah that was me ^^

haha and thank you. that explains a lot. I tried to do that once but then i ended up wasting 3 pair of legs xD.

But thank you, that helps a lot and i'll give it a try with that new box of marauders i've recently received..... gna gna gna.... :P

Subscribed! Amazing stuff. I've always hated the marauders and loved the fact that so many gamers like to convert them into something this good. Also you can't go wrong with Slaine AND Conan! Actually all you need is a little spice of Blood & Sand.

Very nice conversions and theme, I'm working on something similar myself.

I would say use them as WoC for the moment, but a new Orc book is due that may fix them up nicely as a different option.

You may want to retire that movement tray , units are 5 wide minimum to get ranks.

    Re: Nordic's Barbarian Horde!

    @martijn: Glad i could help. =)

@doc_cthulhu: thanks for the praise. You mean the tv show right? i have only watched one episode of it as of yet. i want to see the whole series. it seems pretty good.

@Whitehorn aw man, that sucks. i really like those movement trays!

@Steam-giant: i have thought long and hard how to reply to this comment but i cant come up with anything. =P

Tiny update today due to finger injury. i cut myself in the thumb. =( so no green stuffing this evening. i have some
weird scratches on my pinky as well, i have no idea where they come from. if the wounds keep coming in this RATE i wont have
any fingers at the end of the week! :P

barb #3 This one is tricky. i have reposed his feet a little bit back and forth but i think im happy with him now. i will remove the horns later or replace the head entirely with a marauder horseman head.

Barb #4. a new one i started today he might become the tallest one of the bunch as of yet.

I am afraid that the coherence of the unit will be weird since some of them will be running like mad for the slaughter, while others will have a like a monumental solidness in their stance. ah well i hope its only gonna be me who notice that. :P

My next buy will be Marauder Horsemen for the load of heads you get. i want to swap some of the heads for my marauders and add some to the big barbarians as well. i think they'll look really badass. =) i think i will make some shields from green stuff or scrape off all the chaos iconography from the marauder shields. that will be quite a task. i was thinking of making a primitive shield mould from green stuff to make it easier for me. Time will tell how i do it.
I'm leaning towards more of a Slaine theme for the army rather than Conan, the Slaine universe gives more room for different unit types more than Conan if you know what i mean?
I have some ideas for Warp-spasmic warriors from Slaine as spawns.

In Slaine certain warriors are blessed by the Earth Godess in battle with the Warp-spasm. it can look something like this. I was thinking of using either minotaurs or spawns bits or a combination of both. i want the weapons from the minotaurs but maybe if i get some leftovers from the beastigors i'll use those since its a cheaper solution.

oh, Btw heres a awesome Spanish Slaine fan-film trailer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRIPAsbhZpM
it wont be more than a trailer though i'm afraid but its really awesome anyways.

    Cheers!
