Looking good mate.
At a guess, is that B and Q Wall paper on the base as cobbles? I'm sure i've used that myself at some point!

Actually no, and I've never thought to use wallpaper! It'd probably be cheaper than the Plastruct sheets.
Here's my Lord that I just finished. I went pretty basic with him. He's mostly going to stick with the Wraiths in game so I didn't wanna go crazy on the paint scheme. I'ma save the weird, different stuff for the Pariahs and the C'tan when I get around to doing them up.
He's leaning up against a street signpost. I needed to elevate the model a bit so that the 'boss' was at least at the same level as the rest of his unit. A strange little thing about the Necron model line is that every 'style' of Necron has a slightly different body size and style...
Anyways,
Five Flayed Ones to go. I'm very near a full 1500 points of painted dudes. I'm very tempted to not use stock models for these dudes, and I'm gonna do some experimenting with alternates...
Oh here's an 'up to now' army photo:
Thanks for looking! Comments appreciated!
Loving the wraith-lord. The spot colour on the orb is lovely. Cool base too!

really good stalker. I like your rust tutorial.
I really appreciate the tutorial. I've been looking for a fairly easy way to do rust. Most of the ways I've stumbled upon use about 8+ steps. Your army looks great and it's definitely a "fresh" look at the necrons.
Some great conversion work in here but what really makes them all pop is the rust effect...truly excellent!
Another day older; another day closer to the grave.

Having done weathered Necrons myself it's a good thing to see someone else doing it. Works a charm and I imagine it is dead quick.

Not a very exciting update but I'd thought I'd share...
My gaming club is hosting a Tournament in the Boston area soon, so I need to quickly beef up my list to 1750 points. I've gotta add a bunch of Flayed Ones...
Now I actually really dig the stock models, but felt guilty that I'd left the Destroyers and Wraiths unconverted.
I went with the generic Warrior with sword hands approach. I'd initially toyed with the idea of elongating the heads to give the model a 'fishman' feel, but realized that an altered head wouldn't fit on the regular Necron neck. I used bigger fin-like blade hands though...
This is all stage one of the Flayed Ones. I plan on adding some dead skin...
My template.
Stay tuned...!
Wow, those are some nice Necrons! I've been thinking about doing some 'crons sometime in the future and if I will, there's a very good chance I'll use your rust recipe. It looks truly terrific while not being too hard from the looks of it.
Looking forward to your Flayed Ones.
Hail and Kill
Cracking rust effect mate, and your Necron conversions are simply brilliant!
Subscribed (as soon as I work out how to do it!)
Lookin really great so far! The rust on the necrons is excellent. Your conversions are also great and your lord looks awesome. Do you plan on adding a C'Tan to you army? I would love to see you tackle that model as a conversion![]()
I appreciate the kind words guys!
I've been slowly working on the flayed ones. The skin trick with the greenstuff didn't really work out, so now they're running bare. We'll see how they turn out fully painted. I'm scared just rust will look a bit boring. Here's a blurry shot of the whole crew so far...
Anyway, I'm notoriously negligent in regards to basing. I think my Daemonhunters where wandering in the black slota-base void for years before the were given solid ground. With this in mind, had to give the 'crons a 'setting' worthy of their theme.
I'd already done the statue for the Stalker base, so it was either a graveyard or city. Cobblestone roads have a New England sort of feel and chipped sidewalks give the impression that the town is a bit run down. I also like the visual of a bunch of metal monsters running down a street chasing someone (who knows to much of course).
Anyways enough babbling, here are the pictures.
Obviously set up as a street...
Here in the last picture, you can see a leaf (dyed birch seed pod) on the base. After all the little men get glued down I'm probably gonna spread more of them around... it adds a bit of color contrast. Originally I wanted snow on the bases but it I think the white may not work with all the browns and silvers.
More to come soon. Thanks for looking!
Looks great mate. How did you make the base?
Wow! Really neat looking bases what material did you use for them? the texture is just great. The flayed one look nice and i am curious to see how they turn out without any flesh on them, maybe you could paint them differently to make up for the loss of their skin?
I've heard of one 'cron player who left the flesh off his Flayed ones, but covered them in tiny hooks and spikes. the skin must be held on some way right?
Ideas I will one day get around to (finishing)

Terrific looking force, you've definately captured the ageing, laid dormant for centuries look with your rust effects. Great work!!

Small update:
Slapped the first coat of Highlight paint on some Flayed Ones. Painting is slow goings, and I've only got a week and a half before I need to bust these bad boys out for a tournament. Still to do? Finish the other eight dudes, wash, stipple the browns & highlight again! Cake.
Thanks for looking!
Woah, the leaves on the bases are a great idea. Can't wait to see how that turns out, I think that they really will add that final something to this army - adding a sense of scale, some colour, and something familiar to otherwise alien models, all at once. Did I say that the army looks great as well?
Cheers,
BTB
Great work on the rust colours. I'm very tempted to redo my tired old necrons in this scheme. Thanks for the recipe!. Keep up the good work.
