Yea, I'm not a fan of using scarabs either, I've never really figured out how to use them, all they ever do for me is get killed by the second turnHow did the scarab legs come out in greenstuff? Casting up parts that thin must be really tricky.

OMG this log is full of win! I love this, so unique and menacing! I was pondering my next 40k army. Might do these guys now. Also I have tried to make GS molds obviously your process is good. The spider conversions use a mold yes? How did you go about this? Do you have a tutorial I may have missed? Thanks a bunch. really nice stuff. Subscribed!

Lovely OverlordThat hood looks really good.

@Mega Nutz & Son of Russ - You know I've seen the Puppets War models and to be 100% honest, I don't like them. There's something 'off' about their aesthetic... it's too sci-fi, futuristic, & 'roboty'. Compare the the GW Wraiths & the new Puppets War models... one is creepy, angular, and archaic, while the other is smooth, sleek and efficient.
@system-syn - I have yet to use scarabs in a game! I'm more of a Wraith/Heavy Destroyer fan. We'll see how they do for me. About the GS casting, interestingly enough the GS casts are more solid than the Forge World models! I swear those little legs break into tiny bits if you sneeze at them. The GS is a bit more elastic so the legs are a bit more safe. Quality is back here and there, some legs are very very close to the original models and others are a bit more 'lumpy'. It depends... as I kept using the molds they kept degrading, and I couldn't figure out the perfect green stuff blend. Overall though, I'm pretty content with the casting... it's made some alright models. Here are some pics:
Obviously here are the molds. I used more Blue than Yellow in making the bottom mold. It's a trade off... the blue heavy mold preserves the details but it harder to bend and get the bitz cleanly away from (I used an exacto and some tweezers). The yellow heavy mold is much easier to work with but makes 'lumpier' legs (less detail, but they're also less likely to tear).
Here are the legs pre-clean up.
And finally once connected to the bodies. The first base is actually a dreadnaught base (wish I had the time to do all of scarabs that way!).
And finally some painting in progress. I'm surprised how much of the detail actually came through after the first drybrush. You can definitely tell the bugs aren't originals... but not by much.
@Loki73 - The Spyders are a mix of Greenstuff casted parts, old Tomb Spyder bits, and some other sections made from a 'super secret process'. I don't want to go into the super secret stuff, but I will say that three spiders can easily be made with a single Forgeworld Tomb Stalker model. If you're only looking to make Spyder conversions, it'd probably be much cheaper and a ton of less work. (I'm however wanted to also make the crab Destroyers, so it became a bit more economically feasible to use the 'super secret process'.) Press molds are pretty dam easy to make. I honestly just get a ball of greenstuff, squeeze a model into it... later on slap some more GS over the top and ta-da! Nothing fancy, though I will say that you really need to find something to keep both halves of a mold tightly together... I have a lot of fat scarabs and random scythes lying around...
@Everyone else - Again, thanks for all the kind words!
So the Spyders are done. I'm actually very pleased with them. The only issue I have with them is that they don't really fit on their bases... and I'm having a tough time anchoring the buggers down. Might need to bust out the drill and pins... (Oh, and again... sorry for the Kitchen table shots... I swear one day I'll build a light box.)
If you'll notice, I used madd0ct0r's excellent idea and had the gloom prism represented by the spinnerets.
Anyways. I've still got all the little scarabs to do and I have to finish up my display base... Can I do it by Saturday? I dunno...
As always, comments, questions, and critiques are welcome!
Creepy stuff![]()

Lovely Spyders and Scarabs!
Especially the Spyders. They have a very shambling look over them. Fits perfectly with your creeping horror theme!
Excellent!

I just had a go with your excellent rust tutorial on the Vampire Counts Wight King. I've just finished the browns and it looks great. I didn't have the paints so I had to pop down to GW and get Doombull Brown as Dark Flesh and Skrag Brown as Vermin Brown. I'm excited to get to the next stages. Thanks for inspiring me with your great army!
@Everybody - Thanks for the kind words guys!
Before I touch on this past weekend's tournament let me give you guys an update on a few things...
Here are the painting in progress scarabs. I found that they were much easier to paint while still on the sprue...
But the Green Stuff dudes needed to be suspended...
And finally after a bunch of painting, all the little buggers I had time to do were done!
Notice how its actually kind of difficult to tell the difference between the Forge World models and my press mold guys. Actually impressed myself haha, but seriously I'm debating whether to make more greenstuff scarabs or just buy them... managing the molds is a lot of work.
So in other news I also got most of my display board finished.
I wanted to finish two building faces for the display board to give the impression that the little models were running through an old New England town... didn't quite get the buildings done. Oh well something for me to do for future tournaments a I guess.
And so finally, I went up to Crossroad Games in Standish ME for their April Assault event. It was very well run and I had a great time. I got creamed three games in a row but I'm alright with that seeing as I had three great opponents. And I ended up getting the Peoples Choice award (painting, composition, and sportsmanship I think) which was very nice!
Here's the army on it's display board...
And in action! (Against a very very pretty Daemon army)
Everything is pretty much painted now. I can get some pictures of the completed Crypteks and scarabs if anybody is interested. As to whats left for this army? Well I've got a second Tomb Stalker that needs to be built and painted, I need to build a C'tan (I have a great idea for one), and I'm toying with the idea of more Immortals or even a squad of Lychguard... The new Necron stuff looks fun too, and I'm really fighting with myself about getting one of the Walker Stalkers and converting it... but I dunno...
For now, I'm going to try and paint up my Adeptus Mechanicus Killzone/=I= team.
As always comments critiques and questions welcome!
You have definately got a great Necron army - I do love your scheme !

Killzone/=I= you say? Veraah Interesting Indeed.
The buildings look great, I look forward to seeing them all worn down and covered in ivy and so on... Would you consider trying to fit a tree in there somewhere? Like the ones that grow in little cage things on the sides of suburban roads in America. A dead overgrown tree with roots protruding would fit the Lovecraft theme excellently
well done for completing most of your army but do not give up on this army yet!
the new releases demand your attention![]()

Great work on the scarabs; I can't see any difference between your own press molded and Forge Worlds originals.
And it seems like I'm not the only one interested in your Killzone/=][= AdMech team. Any chance of pictures of those as well?
As always, I really appreciate you guys wasting a bit of this time looking at this thread!
Nothing new with the Necrons but...
Yes! Here's a pic I took of the team when I just started making them...
I've built a few more guys since I took this picture and have actually finished modelling ten Skitarii. Huge props to guys like Migsula, and Cerebralerebus who have been massive influences on these models. (If you have checked out these dudes' models google them... they're amazing).
Anyways, I can post more pics up if anyones interested... that or I can focus on the Necrons...
Comments, critiques, questions, welcome!
Can you post a few individual pics of them, please? They look amazing - especially the big guy!

Some awesome additions here. Keep up the great work!
Any ideas what of the new kits you want to use? I would imagine you could come up with some very nice conversions.![]()
