No family apart from brother but I aint seen him in years – I think he's in prison or somethin. When the first cases started I didn't think anything of it – I mean come on, did you? It wasn't till I found the girl that things changed

[indicates to a young Japanesse school girl sat over by the window. She is alert, eyes constantly scanning the horizon]

You know how I found her? Stood on the top of a people carrier with a mac 10 surrounded by Zeds. I'll never forget those eyes of hers – no sadness, no remorse, she pumping shell after shell into the Zeds like a vietnam vet on a shooting range. I got her out of there. Just. There were two people in the car with bullits through there heads. I'm guessing they were her parents.

I don't remember much about that first day. I threw her into my patrol car, grabbed, Titus, and we left. Thats how it all began”

Hello all and welcome to a joint log between me and Jihad Ragsta in an effort to motivate each other as well as push each other in terms of skill. Over the next few months we'll be painting zombie hunts and zeds for your entertainment, as well as constructing a board which will all accumulate in a game sometime towards the end of the year. Jihad will get his lazy rear posting at some point, but for now heres my humble offerings.

Hasslefrees Suzi, Hamlet, and Ashlee (b). Suzi was a joy to paint, and based off baby dolls color scheme from the film Sucker Punch (and if you haven't seen the trailer for that, go do that now..) whilst Hamlet was a bit of a speed painting job based on an alternate scoobie gang I'm working on. Finally we have Ally who's paint job was a complete accident. Originally I intended for her to be a simple SWAT trooper, but after putting the first few coats of paint on I realised that she looked like the cops from Robocop Not entirely happy with her though so might have another crack at her at some point.

Next up on the painting block is Bubba and possibly Morgan again from Hasslefree.

We hope you'll enjoy this log and as always, comments and crits appreciated

    Nice.
I'm working on some zombie hunters myself, in fact I have that girl mini, too, but the sword version.
Great work on the detail on her skirt.

Cool minis, i especially like the color you used for the guy in the tactical gear. What brand or mix of paint did you use to achieve that color.

    Re: World War Z

Excerpt taken from the testimony of subject referred to as 'Kevin.' Given the frontier justice most such delinquents received during the conflict this source should be considered to be post war.

There's alot of things I'm not proud of from back then okay? I don't wanna make excuses for myself or Baker - I knew we were in deep **** and I just wanted to get through it. I dunno, Baker was always a creepy guy but at least someone had my back y'know?

Anyway, we were in this store trying to stock up on supplies - I was an idiot for doing that, the place was rammed with panic buyers already. Talk about bad timing! There was this TV above the counter just blaring away with these images of some crazy **** going down. That didn't help- I don't remember a single person who wasn't going bat **** crazy back then!

I dunno when they showed up - I was still trying to wrestle these cans off someone when there's all this shouting and breaking glass from the shop front. Couldn't see for the crowd but... That's when I vaulted the counter - the owner tried to stop me but he lost interest real fast... Sounded like a riot was breaking out behind me, I could hear sirens and that ****ed up wailing that... You know, those freaks just put out there.

I got into the shop's back room - I was freaking out big time. Baker was right behind me, trying to wedge the door shut even while other people were trying to follow us... ****, man, I told you I ain't proud.

There was a fireaxe in there and I used it to get out through the back. Baker grabbed this crowbar - man, I think he was actually enjoying himself. I still remember the sounds coming outta that place as we ran.

Hello everyone I've always enjoyed watching zombie films and recently had some fun reading Max Brooks' books. Naturally I also picked up some Walking Dead comics and watched that series too.

For myself, I wanted a reason to paint some bright, individual models for once. And shedloads of zombies of course

My first submission to this log is Kev and Baker from Hasslefree miniatures - just had to give Kev the axe (he has an option for a pistol or samurai sword too). Baker looks a scary bugger - I could swear he gave me a dirty look while I was setting them up for this shot.

Currently no freehand work on the backs of their jackets - any suggestions will be gladly taken on board! My next guy will be based on inspiration I got from the final episode of Walking Dead - nothing too fancy but I'm looking forward to it.

Myself and Gomez are looking forward to doing some random fun stuff on this log - I currently have a large box of zombies groaning under my desk. I've picked up some Mantic ones as I wanted to give them a go.

Comments and criticisms very much welcome!

The immaculate yellow jumpsuit he was wearing proved to be very distracting.

Can you tell me a little bit about how you joined the group?

Ally came looking for her grandpappy and found me fighting off a couple of the old timers who hadn't been so quick off the draw if you take my meanin. I grabbed my guitar, fought my way out to the car and that was that. She didn't have to take me – I'm no spring chicken and dressed the way I was she musta thought I was a crazy man or some such.

    What were you wearing?

(He looks himself up an down with a smile, and looks at me)
the last suit I'd ever wear. I'd like to say I was bein heroic, but truth of the matter is, it was laundry day. We got a couple miles down the freeway before the two girls even took a good look. Little lady almost crashed the car she was laughin so hard. A coupla months down the road, after we'd switched rides and picked up a few more boys, she took me to one side and asked me to wear it again – said somethin about moral of the troops. I started to play it up. I'd sing all day, tell tall tales about my youth, listen to them when they couldn't cope. I was grandpappy to them all in a way – I just kept smilin, kept joking, and kept killin Zeds... Its very difficult to comprehend. All the people all the lives in all the world. Its very difficult to comprehend it happening.

I'm quite happy with how Jons turned out, especially has he's been sat on my desk for about a fortnight. He still needs some work in the strap but otherwise I'm fairly happy with it especially the guitar which looks exactly how I wanted it too.

I also made a start on Morgan however its gone wrong (for the third time - how is it I can screw up a model so many times?!), so I'm going to have a crack at something else this week. Probably something with a bit more sculpting as I have a a Louise who needs some sculpting and a Dionne who might also get a dose of yellow paint..

Thanks for all the comments guys! We'll try not to let you down

    Till next time

    Re: World War Z

Interview with ex US serviceman Corporal 'Ferris.' Location undisclosed at request of the subject.

We weren't called in until it was declared a level 3 outbreak. That's a ref to the kinda numbers we were dealing with - level 1 was your dozen zeds in a hickville village somewhere. By level 3 the cops were screaming for support - keeping the roads open, clearing city blocks, extracting civvies from infested areas. I'm talking level 3 outbreak across the country.

You know they still had us trying to treat the injured and the sick? Sick from the bites, and you know you did not want hospital detail when those poor bastards started getting back up!

It got pretty bad... Our ammo began drying up and the zeds were popping up everywhere. Alot of units began to panic when they thought they were going to get cut off, and don't even get me started on the looting, the riots and the mass panic.

The days before they announced a level 4 outbreak we got the order - pacify with extreme prejudice. Alot of the guys couldn't take it - couldn't handle the idea of... Following those orders... Listen, I was a good soldier. I signed up to fight for my country... But I lit out after that fiasco at the Golden Bridge, hooked up with some people on the road...

This guy took me much longer than I thought he would - one of the goals behind this log is for me and Gomez to push ourselves when it comes to painting. For me, Corporal Ferris was my first real try at:

    • Painting camo (method lifted from Bungaroo and iPaint, probably more!)
    • Painting a realistic lense effect on the shades
    • Extreme detailing (okay, I could have pushed myself even harder here but I'm exhausted!)

In the final episode of Walking Dead there is a really cool opening sequence where the army is evacuating a hospital - I based this Hasslefree figure on that. The fluff alludes to the same idea too. My own team of adventurers have a slightly darker twist to them - this hasn't shown through too much yet but the connotations in Kevin, Baker and Ferris are there...

Hi Sheep! Nice to see you, mate! We will be using a variety of zombies but I don't want to give too much away. I am thinking about having a theme for some of the sub-swarms and am pretty sure you'll see zeds from multiple suppliers.

Ruleset eh? Well, currently we're looking at this one. I think I might like to streamline it for quicker play (we're talking alot of zeds here) but it's free and comes from Big Iron Vault:

Absolutely love the paint job - that lens work is easily you best to date and the gun seriously kicks the cack out what I've been doing. I really like how you've interprated the figure as well. I always had him pegged as a swat officer but now I'm not so sure.

one of the goals behind this log is for me and Gomez to push ourselves when it comes to painting - but Gomez is lazy and has been phoning it in a bit, so check out this awesome paint job with awesome camo that kicks his lazy a***

    Re: World War Z

Thank you for the kind words on Corporal Ferris, he is definitely one of my favourite works to date. Gomez has a very nice piece coming so I felt duty bound to get this one in before he does!

I present police officer Rhames - inspired by Ving Rhames from Dawn of the Dead.

My first time at painting a black uniform. I was wary of doing it but he's turned out alright. If I were to paint this figure again I would make him a civilian so I could jazz him up in some bright colours but I wanted officer Rhames, so there you are

I have been building a selection of zombies so they will be coming soon - I also have an idea that will build upon the fluff that Gomez and I have been posting up so watch this space.

One thing that I have always loved when it comes to zombies is Johnny Cash: The Man Comes Around - found this video and I think it suits the theme that we are developing. Try to use your imagination - our zeds won't be sprinting like these ones

I think you've done the flesh tone really well but I dont think the pictures showing off the clothes quite so well. Bit more highlighting on the leather as well. Come on, don't be lazy! If I'm free handing cherry blossoms on a kimono you can certainly add a highlight

Yeah, I think this one has definately been more then I can chew but I'll keep at it.

Good stuff fellas. Some great minis.
Star of the show and favorite for me (So far) has to be Ferris. The camo is amazing. I wouldn't even kno where to start with camo. Hard to believe that is your first crack at something like that. The lenses are great too.

Can I ask how you are doing the flesh?

    Re: World War Z

Archived material from KWNN, sourced from reporter Will No - Hope's personal records after he was barred from further reporting.

Good morning, this is Bob Turnhouse reporting.

Breaking news from the town of Ubiquitous - the gruesome slaying of a local family. Our correspondent Will No- Hope is at the scene. Will, can you tell us what's going on?

Well, Bob, I've spoken to the police and they tell me that four of the family were found dead at their farm early this morning. The bodies have been badly mutilated - I'm sorry to say that there is a cannibalistic element to these slayings. The last member of the family, 23 year old Ben Dover is currently missing and considered a suspect. The bodies will be taken to the local coroner for proper examination. Back to you in the studio, Bob.

Gruesome news indeed, we'll be updating you on this story as it unfolds. Now here's the lovely Helen with the weather.

Thank you all for your kind comments!

Harry - the flesh on Ferris was simply Dheneb Stone, washed with Ogryn Flesh then a watered down highlight of Dheneb Stone again. Its the first skin recipe I've used that I've actually been happy with - seems to have held up okay on those few human figures I've painted so far.

Gomez - Yes, I agree that Rhames' uniform has come out badly in the pictures, looks a bit gritty too He looks better in the cold light of day I have added highlights to the leather and am working on highlighting his uniform with watered down Codex Grey. Carefully. Very carefully

Fabricator - Glad you're enjoying the show! Me and Gomez have many more toys to display!

So yes, painted up some zombies over the last few days. My paint - fu is pretty low right now but I found these little fellas quite therapeutic to do. Just a basic block in of colours, drybrush then wash so far. I'll be highlighting the raised edges with lighter shades to brighten them up a little. Once the basing is done perhaps I can do a group shot with my contribution of zombie hunters.

Any comments much appreciated - I don't think I want the bulk of my swarm to look like these guys as they're a bit dark. They make good 'Level 1' zombies though i.e. the first that came back and thus the first to start going off their use by date.

Perry miniatures unarmoured samurai. I thought I'd try something fairly simple, which ended up with a dozen layers of shading on the black - hey ho I'm really happy with how hes progressing although he does need to be finished I thought I'd show him off here.

JIHAD - I can see why you felt sorry for them. They look damn gruesome. I dont think there too dark (a few lighter ones in the mix sure) because it'll be a nice counter to the fairly bright figures we've churned out so far. That and in muted colors theres a chance we'll miss one while playing
