Just noticed this plog. I absolutely love the style you got going on here. The black is always hard, but very nicely highlighted. The greens, amazing and let's not even begin on the moon standard.

    Lets see some more hordes!

Re: Arkanus O&G plog - Mean & green

Thanks Maglok! I'm happy you like the greens. I put much effort to achieve smooth transition of highlights and the yellowish look.
Lots of glazes of watered down paints and mixes, from goblin green to bad moon yellow.
Archers regiment side and rear closeups:

And a tactical reinforcement of 5 spears to add to my previously painted units.
I hope some day these guys will change the battle result, and I pray it will be to my favor

Very nice skin on your greenies, vibrant and lovely, but what I like most is the cohesion in your units and between them, the lot really looks like an army, with enough colour to "pop" while still being essentialy "dark".

    Job's a good 'un !

    Sounds tempting

And now some more pictures taken this weekend. The above 5 goblin spearman have just got introduced to their new regiment.
The horde now counts 47 green gits including 2 command squads, big boss with baby squig and the shaman:

I need to buy 5 more BFSP spear goblins to get rid of one command group when deploying them as a horde of 50 instead of two regiments of 20 or 25.
The last 2 spots will be taken by limited edition fanatics (two gobos throwing the fanatic)

Big units of Night Goblins are impressive in their own way ... I loved the look on my friend's face when I deployed one Horde of 110 Night Goblins, one Horde of 60 Night Goblins with bows and lastly one Horde of Squigs (30 squigs, 20 herders) ... granted, I only have 5 "units" in my 2K lists, but it's still over 200 gobboes

Re: Arkanus O&G plog - Mean & green

A week ago I came over to the local GW (Dublin, Lower Liffey Street) and found out there's a painting competition running with entries accepted till end of July. The theme is ''Monster'' referring for the latest miniatures releases for Storm of Magic. Last year in July I was successful with the ''Heroes & Hordes'' painting competition ran for 8th ed. release. I won Hero category with my Teclis:

I did a quick review of my miniatures and decided to bring the wyvern on. I bought it on ebay last year and it had one wing broken, one leg off and generally dodgy paint job with rough surfaces on the wings (like sponge). If it was going to go for painting competition I had to have it nice and clean. Everything went to Shell DOT-4 break & clutch fluid for 24h. I don't know how it works in cars, but for paint striping this stuff is brilliant. Unfortunately it is not plastic-friendly (as the last break fluid I used). Now I have a pare of Nurgle-style wings, take a look:

I wander how much of this perforation was already under the paint before I striped it (the sponge like surfaces on the wings) and how much was done by Shell break fluid in 24h when the wings were dipped.
That's going to stay a mystery as I do not have photos from before the stripping. I checked my friend eBay and there is one pair for sale but in Oz, so P&P kills. Lucky me GW online sales has in bits section the ''dragon wings'' which look exactly the same as mine Nurg-wings. A pare is ordered and on the way to my local GW to collect next weekend. As I am working now on pinning and gluing the metal parts, I should have the wyvern ready when the wings arrive and still enough time to paint it for the competition.

I'm conflicted on this one ...

On the one hand, I really hate Teclis the Special Character, because that thing is the definition of überbrokenness ...

On the other hand, I like the model, and your paint job is superb ...

Very nice paintjob on those gobbos. I especially like the way you painted the skin. And the fanatics are superb !

Re: Arkanus O&G plog - Mean & green

Lorcryst, I bought this Teclis 15 years ago not even knowing who is he in terms of game, just because I liked the miniature. I happy painted him with Humbrol enemals in black & red paint scheme, so not much in common with High Elves colors. Painting competition gave me a boost to refresh him. He got a nail polish remover bath and hard brushing, new base and proper gold-blue-turquoise painting. I am happy with how he looks now.

Thanks azhagmorglum, I put much attention in my goblins skin. I am happy you like it.

In the meantime, waiting for new wyvern wings, I started to work on other big monster I found in my closet. I got it from eBay last May. Auction claimed it's ''Warhammer Vintage Giant very rare oop 1980's'', but I can't find it on The Stuff of Legends. Could somebody tell me more about this giant? Post a link to SOLE or other catalog? Thanks!

Few pictures step by step - pinned & glued to the 50mm base with 40mm resin base. As the guy is a ''shorty'' compering to modern giants, I wanted to elevate him a little to compensate his old-school size.

    Some putty and sanding:

    PVA glue and more sanding:

White primer - ready to paint in a company of BFSP Night goblin for size comparison:

Hmmm ... that Giant doesn't look like a GW model, maybe a Ral Partha one from way back in time ...

Wow! That giant looks like a giant goblin. You should put a hood on him

The Night Goblins look spectacular. I'm really happy to see someone spending all that time blending smooth shades on 3pt models. Makes me feel a little less crazy myself!

The Teclis is super well done, smooth shades and blingy golds. Eye's look a bit oversized though, but clean and well painted.

Yeah your age, I bet you were 6 and you were spending your candies pocket money on your first miniatures. Good boy

Could anybody point me out to GW/Citadel/Marauder catalogue with this giant? Link please.

Solun Decius, that's what happen when you start tackling sanity - you end up painting 7 layers to give your goblin healthy/sick (choose the one you like) skin tone
The giant doesn't look like a goblin to me at all. He looks like young not so bright and goofy giant. I love his face expression and I cant wait to see how he looks like when painted.

Well, I still think it'll fit perfectly in with the Night Goblin horde (with or without a hood ).

Hi, today small update with this week WIP on the wyvern.
The hornes are my first adventure with Green Stuf. This thing is sticky

Two 40mm resin bases glued to chariot base, pin holes drilled, but wyvern is not glued yet:

Putty & sanding. Later on sealed with watered down PVA glue:

White primed and ready for painting:

I started to paint the giant yesterday. I must say I love the white primer.

Top Quality painting! Great log! I especially like the eye on your Boss' Baby Squig, it almost looks like its about to start moving around.

Well done for winning the competition with your Teclis Model. A great paintjob on such a classic sculpt.

Will tune in again for sure. Keep on supplying the good stuff!

Re: Arkanus O&G plog - Mean & green

Thanks gogs78, they actually haven't seen the battlefield yet, but I hope they will make proper ''green horde'' impression on the table.

Thanks The Yak, I like the baby squig too, it's cute

Yesterday I called my local GW to confirm the deadline for entries submission in the ''Monster'' painting competition. I thought It was last day of July, so this Sunday, but I wanted to be sure till what hour I need to bring the mini in. Imagine my surprise when the guy told me that the deadline is actually the end of August! This means I am one month ahead. I can still paint the wyvern and decide which of them I want to submit for the painting competition.

So, without further ado, here comes the giant!

What do you think? C&C welcome.
