Re: Games Workshop Fantasy Releases Timeline (Mk. II)

I beleive Karl Franz on Griffon may even pre date the Snotlings. Not sure. Stone Trolls i am almost certain came out before Dragon Ogres as they where in the 4th ed OnG book. Dragon Ogres where in the chaos book/box set. I have a stack of old WD back at my parents going back to issue 136. Next time i am there i will see what i can get my hands on to help you out.
There is no truth, only human opinion.

Re: Games Workshop Fantasy Releases Timeline (Mk. II)

Hmm... I don't think Karl Franz is an older sculpt. I was recently reading some old WD's I found in a box while cleaning, and the current Emperor on Griffon model came out sometime in the shift between 3rd and 4th edition, he was featured in the 4th Ed army book, but in the 3rd ed lists the year or so before, another model is used.

I'd say he is from the same general era as the Stone Trolls, coming for those first 4th ed books (1992-93), and the snotlings currently available were featured in at least as far back as the 1988 Citadel Catalogues.

So, snotlings are probably the oldest models still on the general shelves, various mail order only items like Jes Godwins Chaos Warriors could possibly beat them though.

I don't know how old the sculpt is, but it also had an update.
It used to come with this hammer, now it comes with this one.
I think they changed that somewhere around the Storm of Chaos campaign but I'm not sure.

    Splendid work Tymell!

Yeah, should have been for the 7th ed Empire book (or already for the 6th even); Karl Franz got the option to carry either the Hammer or a Runefang in the armylist, and they redesigned the model to fit the rules.

That would be very much appreciated, thanks! I'm hoping to look over more recent White Dwarfs (after I stopped collecting) soon, so if I could get info from older issues too that could finish it off (as much as reasonably possible anyway).

And then I really would have to start looking at a site for it

When did GW release something? Was it plastic or metal? Who sculpted it? Come find out:Fantasy, 40K, LOTR, BFG, Blood Bowl, Epic, Inquisitor, Man O' War, Mordheim, Necromunda & Warmaster

The oldest models still available should be the elementals in the collectors section. These date back to 1985.
    http://www.solegends.com/citc/c34elemsdemonsc3.jpg
Most of the dragons in that same section came out in 1987.
Until recently they had a group of eight old school dwarf adventurers, dating back to the same era 1985-87.
Just one or two years ago you could still order some ancient doorways, going back to 1982.
    http://www.solegends.com/citf/citfs/citfs1door.htm

Perhaps it would be a good idea to mark the shift in scale of miniatures taking place in 1989/90 when the scale was changed from 28mm to 30mm (and more clumsy miniatures for the first few years afterwards).

To understand more of the history of Games Workshop and Citadel Miniatures (and the grief many old gamers and collectors have against what both have become) I'd recommend this article:

You have done a great job here!

    I have two additions:
    1. You may add the Limited Bretonnian General which was included in the 5th Edition Basis Game Box in November 1999.
    2. You could also add another limited Bretonnian model "Le Chevalier Ermite de Malmont" which was available at the French Games Day in May 1997.

The following seems to be wrong:
    1. According to the White Dwarf the designer of the Bretonnian Squires (November 1997) is Aly Morrison (AM) and not Michael Perry (MP).
    2. Also according to White Dwarf the designer of the Bretonnian Knights of the Realm Command (January 1997) is Michael Perry (MP) and not Alan Perry (AP).

    Cheers!

I'm putting together the limited edition models at the moment as it happens I think I've got most of them, just need to pin down the exact release dates.

Was de Malmont the foot knight with the big double-handed sword? Either way, thanks, I didn't have a date for him

Hmmm, odd...can I ask what pages those come from? I've got those issues here now, and they definitely say those names at the bottom of the pages at the back (the catalogue section)

I was looking through WD 66 looking for the red redemptionists but I couldn't find them, do you know what page they are on Harry?

@Tymell; haven't posted yet in this iteration of the thread, but smashing work as usual.

That's right. You can verify the date here:

Wow. Now that is odd, the two versions of White Dwarf give different sculptors

Never mind, I'll put both their initials after with a slash between. Thanks

    Great job!!
Side note: I'm still waiting for the WoC second wave. The new book has been released in 2008, and we still have old 1994 Dragonogres, and old chaos trolls and chaos ogres (didn't find the release date). And some characters are still missing (Valkya, Kholek, Vilitch...)
No more waiting for the Tau!

Re: Games Workshop Fantasy Releases Timeline (Mk. II)

It strikes me that since December 2007 (4 years), they published a new book for every single Destruction/Neutral army (and even two for some), against a single Order army (Lizardmen, February 2009).
