    Re: Craftworld Ynn'eal Tan

    Just to post something in the meantime while working on the Hornets which will see some WIP-pictures pretty soon, here's the pretty far advanced WIP of my Serpent which might be known to some already:
    (for questions about the turret, see a bit deeper at reply #60)

    C&C welcome as always.

    Soo... as said, heavily under progress and just a tiny step done so far, but here's how the "Forgeworld Eldar Hornet" develops.

    First the totally messy raw result from Forgeworld:

    Then the cleaned up version, primed and the white areas basecoated with blue:

    And this is the progress at the bottom of the Hornet so far (yes, that is really a blue->white transition and not just the result of the light in the room):

    Here's a tiny bit closer view, maybe the interior between the lamellae (right word?) can be seen a bit better. There's one dark blue line between them on the picture. That one is going to vanish when I'm entirely done with that part. I have still to paint the sides of the lamellae, which cannot be seen from that angle:

    About an hour or so. Quite fast actually, although it looks horrible. But if you're used to clipping and filing and cutting with a scalpel, it can be done pretty fast (cutting off the excess, filing down the resin-intakes, removing tiny/grainy sparkles of excess-resin all over the flat surfaces [they looked as if there had been bubbles in the rubber mould - about 0.1 to 0.2mm in diameter maybe]). The worst part actually is the engine, because it has some 1mm-gap to the underside of the model. Seems that all casts of Hornets have that issue. I had to take some Milliput to fix it. Nothing too hard, but still a bit annoying. Very cool though is, that there are nearly no bubbles and nearly no big flashes had been existing, seems the moulds had been fitting quite well (which I can't say so about the Wasp).

    Oh wow, I have to mirror what's been said. That blending is amazing !
    I only have a bit of FW resin but the bent barrel is really of putting.

    Actually that barrel only looks bad. Didn't take even two minutes to get it straight. Worse is if the entire body/hull of a vehicle is warped, like for example the one of my Scorpion... the turret did not fit into the engraved area and I could also not turn it around. I had to file the turret and even cut parts out of the hull to make it work at all. That really sucks. But those bent weapons are an easy and save fix.

    I don't normally comment on logs, but some of that painting is exquisite! The colours look so vivid. Fantastic work!

    The blending on the blue/white is amazing, really really amazing!

    I really like how you're painting your Eldar, I always liked the "in your face" colours of the old style Eldar and to me they should have very vivid and exotic colours and you execute that brilliantly. The Dire Avengers are my favourite, especially the Exarch, there's something about them that makes you very aware they are an alien race, not just skinny humans.

    Props also to the disco boogy Wraithlord on the first page

    I love the way this is going so far. I have to admit, I was surprised to see the shape of the Hornet at arrival, primarily because I just got the warp hunter kit in and I was surprised by how really little work it needed to be cleaned and done.

    Thanks guys Thanks a lot

    @Fable: Actually all Hornets seem to look that way. Dunno why, normally Forgeworld-tanks don't have so much excess.

    Great blending on the Hornet's belly! I guess it's airbrushed?

    Partly. Big parts are done with an ordinary brush though.

    Best. Log. Ever. So much instant subscription that you wouldn't even begin to realise. Old school painted new AND old eldar to me is a nostalgia dream come true, and I find this just as I am pondering making an old school painted corsair force. Thank you!

    Cheers,

    Hendarion. How did you get that turret looking sooo un-blocky?
    Surely not green stuff? If it is I'll cry lol.

    Re: Craftworld Ynn'eal Tan

    Plasticard and Greenstuff. I've scanned the original turret, painted a new additional shape and printed it. Then cut the new shape out of plasticard and removed the glue-lines with a file and greenstuff. Not hard to do, but you need a sharp knife/scalpel to cut the plasticard. Especially the front was a bit fiddly. But basically it's just a fin glued to the front and a fin to the back.

    @edit:
    I found the blueprint. I'll upload it.

    @edit 2:
    Tada... The black areas are plasticard, the rest is the original scan of the turret.
