    mrtn's dirty rotters (Plague Marines)

Thought it was time for another army diary. As some of you might have seen if you've read my beastmen diary I bought a big Death Guard army a couple of years ago. It's mostly painted by the previous owner, but now I've started to paint some plague marines myself, here they are:

MORE old school nostalgia in here? Love it. The colour scheme is really nice, especially the contrast with the bases and the orange parts is great. Looking forward to more!

    Cheers,

Great start Mrtn! +1 on the orange. I reckon the back banner would look cool in purple. Give us more please.

Looks like you've made a great start, those PMs on the right are some of my favourite models of all time. I love your beastman log and I'm looking forward to seeing what you make of these guys (especially as I have a big old school Death Guard army myself)!

    Vomikron Noxis, thank you.

Here's a second batch of plague marines. The flamer is converted a bit in the back, and the guy next to him has a chaos warrior axe and a random pistol hand I found, otherwise they're pretty stock models.

Hi martn, you also make me want to start a plaque marine squat by myself, when I look at your nice start here! :-)
But I'm afraid of, that when I powerslow painter has it finished, comes the new codex and I could'nt field them with my unmarked Night Lords :-)...

Nice update. How about giving the backpacks a turquoise wash, and using a bit of purple lichen on the bases?

    DEAR GOD, NO GOD!

Dark poisoned blood in some recesses of backpacks with some gloss varnish coat would be much better

Great stuff. Love the contrast of green and orange. Looks quite sickly.

Thanks mate. I don't think you'd need to worry, I'd be surprised if they removed the ability to take different marks in an army. If nothing else that would invalidate the black legion.

Thanks. I won't add any lichen, the bases are supposed to be a Martianesque red space desert. As to the turquoise I don't think it fits the limited palette of this army, but I've tried it on some fantasy stuff. Besides, it would make VenomBlood mad.

Thank you. Sickly is the idea alright.

I've done some converting on the next batch:

I always thought that nurgle minions deserve a decent paint job.
I like the way you used skaven bitz. Keep it up.

Thank you. I wondered if anyone would catch the stormvermin arm.

The next batch is finished now:

Is that what the arm on the guy on the left is? A skaven arm? I like it, really suits the mini.

I think you've got a really nice old-school paintjob going on here, but I think the bases need a drybrush of some highlight colour. The photo makes it look like the colour on the base edge is the same as on the base? If so, might I suggest an alternative colour for the base edge?

The mini's are looking great mrtn, keep up the good work.

These are great mrtn. In fact I think I like these more than I like your Beasties. Another 1000 page log in the making?

Eh, define left? The pointing arm is a skaven arm.

You might suggest an alternative base edge colour, but I don't think I'll listen.

Thank you Abraham. My other thread isn't even up to 1000 posts, let alone pages, but I'll see what I can do.

Here's a couple of conversions for the latest batch, a champion with "power fist" and a flamer converted from an ancient painting starter set.

    Nice stuff all around.

I like those latest conversions. The old school flamer looked awesome. I wouldn't want to give the champion a high five.

Great stuff and some really neat conversions! The flamer guy looks awesome, that's some real old school stuff!

How big is this army (how many models did you buy)??

Thank you. You gave me an idea for a high five, I'll return to it when he's painted.

Thanks. The army was really big, including 4 rhinos, most of a predator, a daemon prince, a dreadnought, a couple of obliterators, 50-60 plague/chaos/space marines, 7 terminators, 7 plague bearers, some 200 (!) nurglings (these have their own army now), a GUO, and a bunch of random stuff, like dark elves, old LotR starter set, sisters of sigmar, half a Heroquest set, greatswords, zombies, and various other random models.

    Some of it:
