Terra Torn Asunder - The 4th Grand Company

    Hello there!

I sold my 3.000 pts. Death Guard 2-odd weeks ago and I needed a new project. When I startet my next army project back then, I had to decide between Death Guard and Iron Warriors. Unfortunately, I decided for the former and the army never got finished.

With the DG sold, I could fulfill my dreams of an Iron Warriors force. But the IVth Legion's best times were over with the release of the current Codex CSM.

Thus I looked for a possibility to play the Legion with as many fluff elements as possible and so I came to the Codex SM. What, a Chaos Legion played with a loyal Codex - what the heck!?

I chose to hoist a Grand Company at the time of the Horus Heresy when they layed siege to the Imperial Palace.

Here is the army list with all the planned units. The weapons and equipment are not determined finally.

UPDATE 14.11.11: PICASA WEB ALBUM with brand new pics of all my Iron Warriors

    Warsmith Fabrilis
    Magus Tenebrae
    Terminator Squad + Land Raider
Venerable Dreadnought Brutus + Drop Pod
    Techmarine Procudo + 3 Servitors
    10 Iron Warriors + Transporter
    10 Iron Warriors + Transporter
    5 Scouts
    1-2 Predators
    3 Vindicators

Now let me explain some units and characters of the list.

    Warsmith Fabrilis (lat. forged)
Every Company is led by a Warsmith and so I needed one, too. A Master of the Forge fits best in this role and his special rules are a nice endorsement.

    Magus Tenebrae (lat. darkness)
Magus Tenebrae belongs to Fabrilis' most closely circle of advisors. He aids his Warsmith with his magnicficent sense for battlefield tactics and warfare.

    Venerable Dreadnought Brutus (lat. lumbering)
Formerly a Techmarine himself, he now trudges over the battlefield embedded in a Dreadnought to give fire support or to intercept enemies to protect the more static elements of the battleforce.

    Techmarine Procudo (lat. to forge)
He and his squad of 4 Servitors are responsible for repairing the damaged vehicles and to guarantee that the siege machinery never stops at all means.

    Scouts
The Iron Warriors use units to infiltrate the opponent's fortifications and to support the main force. I'd love to display them as some kind of Chosen Chaos SM but that's not possible, unfortunately.

I had exams at university until yesterday, so I could paint very little the last time. But yesterday I finished my third Warrior and I don't want to deprive them of you:

I'm looking forward to your opinions. Happy posting!

Looking good so far. I agree that the loyalist marine codex best suits Iron Warriors in terms of fluff now that Chaos can't take Basilisks. Iron warriors without artillery doesn't make sense. Also, the Master of the Forge and Techmarines work well as Iron Warrior characters.

As for the scouts, how about some FW renegade militia. I think they'd fit the bill perfectly.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

The Lost Hobbit: I thought about this minis for my Scouts:

    http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/i...ml?cPath=36_43

There will be some conversion work necessary but the models are just too good to take others. But the idea with the FW Renegades isn't bad either.

As for the freehand on the banner: I think I'll paint a bionic hand grasping Terra and a writing in a semi circle above it reading "4th Grand Company".

Yesterday evening, I assembled the rest of my planned Kill Team for a 200 pts. tournament in March:

I wanted to set up a very specialised squad that infiltrates the enemy's emplacements and now I could pick up the idea mentioned in the opening post.

    Here's my list:

    3 Chosen w/ Bolters
1 Chosen w/ Missile launcher (Tank Hunter)
    1 Chosen w/ Combi-melta (= Leader; Feel no Pain)
    1 Chosen w/ Melter
    1 Chosen w/ Combi-plasma (Relentless)
    1 Chosen w/ Flamer

    Total points: 199

Hi Momus, nice to see you like my stuff. That depends on which minis you have and in which condition they are. Could you post pics?

The organisator of the tournament uses the rules from Battle Missions with slight modifications.

Here's the link to the website (well, it's in German): http://tabletopturniere.de/t3_tournament.php?tid=7188

There are 8 matches to be played. You can choose your 200 pts. strong army from 0-1 elites, 0-2 troops and 0-1 fast attack.
Every model counts as scoring and acts individually from the other members of its squad.

You have to declare the model with the highest Ld as your Leader and as soon as your force is reduced to 25% you have to take a morale check at the beginning of each turn using the Leader's Ld as long as he's alive for every model. If you fail the check, the model retreats.

Liking the Iron Warriors so far

I agree with the Iron Brotherhood models, almost like dark mechanicus allies...

I can see them moving forward, sniping any sentries then marking targets for the artillary to pound.

Are you thinking of giving them a Teleport homer to bring the termies in?

New techie (minus arms+servo harness) and three different servitors (minus weapon arms) not perfect but your iron warriors caught my eye and thought i would ask.

    EDIT: 501st post whoop!

nice start, good to see other people exploring other possibilities than the "take plague marines+obliterators+slaaneshi-prince=instant win" codex.

just a thought, how about making the warsmith a chapter master instead? sure you'll lose the special rules and the servo-harness, but you'll get orbital bombardment and +1 wound.

cool list anyway, , make the loyalists pay!

Great stuff. Always liked the Iron Warriors after I read Storm of Iron, if I were to do a CSM army IW are the legion i'd choose.

What's next on the list for these guys?

Re: Terra Torn Asunder - The 4th Grand Company

    @ Bruther Nidus
Yes, a Teleport Homer is exactly the thing I planned for them, aparr from 4 Sniper rifles and 1 Heavy Bolter.

    @ Momus
Sorry, that's nothing I need. The arms and the servo-harness are the most important things for me when I buy those minis as I'll have to replace the Heavy Bolter and Multi-metla arm of the Servitors from the Box with Servoarms.
But thanks for the pic anyhow.

    @ LokkoRex
Maybe I add a Captain later on, but for the start a Master of the Forge fits my requirements perfectly well.

    @ Gonders
I do have a Vindicator planned for the army, just check my list again.

    @ Shaneimus Prime
When the Kill Team's finished I don't care much which unit I'll paint next. But I can tell you that I already have built the Drop Pod and a Land Raider and maybe they'll be next for matters of variety.

Re: Terra Torn Asunder - The 4th Grand Company

I finished my 4th Warrior this evening and during painting him I made a little step-by-step tutorial.

It's in German, but pictures say more than 1.000 words:

    Step 1:

Re: Terra Torn Asunder - The 4th Grand Company

    Step 6:

The tanks look very cool with the dozer blades - Just needs a few spikes hear and there to make it a bit more chaosy!!

I think those helmets are absolutly perfect for iron warriors, well done sir - I'm jonna steel that idea for sure!!!

Also I think the eyes look very, very cool.

    Well done!

Not quite sure about the gold colour trim, it's a bit too orange for my tastes, but apart from that, you're doing the legion proud!

Lets see some more heavy wargear soon!!
